  • Elwyn Henaway demonstrates the Yiggy Yiggy and Songline during the Home Away festival.
Australia is home to the world’s oldest surviving culture. Through millennia, the stories and traditions of the continent’s remarkable First Nations have been kept alive through music and dance. Maintaining that tradition is the driving force behind one of the country’s most powerful traditional dance groups - The Guruman Dancers who presented new theatre as part of Home Away. Formerly known as Badjtala Nangarim, the group recently took the Guruman name (meaning kangaroo) and has set about its goal of protecting and revitalizing language and culture
through traditional and contemporary dance. A melting pot of tradition, the group represents several Aboriginal tribal groups - Badjtala, Garawa, Wanyi, Mununjali Yugambeh, Gungurri, Birri Gubba, Goomeroi and Wiradjuri.
In its tenth anniversary year, the National Theatre of Scotland presents its first ever festival of participatory performing arts.
Ten new productions from Chicago, Glasgow, New Dehli, Brisbane, South Uist, Dundee, Jamaica, Tomintoul & Glenlivet, Rio de Janeiro and the world wide web.
Plus a five day participatory arts conference.

Excellent bro its good to see positive style it brought back memories of uncle from u tribe he is a dancer Imbala dance mob thank you an old fu lah told me a long time ago we must always try to help each other up i think you are doing that . Our little group was doing theatre then and the best part was when our elders came to our shows most of them had not seen our mob on stage. They laughed and cried sometimes. memories of lives long gone but never forgotten it was the best part seeing them there. And non ingigenous people speaking with them and many had never spoken to a ingigenous Australian ever it was so good and change can come through simple things i was young then old now. I will always try to help our mob up we run out of time so positiveness is the way wanyumbu wanyumbu(always)
