+Arthur Melo There's actually a handful of tracks where he plays fingers, particularly on the self-titled album. Scream, Afterlife, Dear God, Little Piece of Heaven. And there's others like So Far Away and Betrayed (betrayed is just an assumption judging by how it sounds)
I always thought that "pick vs. fingers" was a tone choice. However, pick is much easier than fingers, and a lot of "throwaway" type bassists definitely lean that way based off of ease of use. That's where it's bad rep comes from. I can use both, but for the punchy sound that Avenged needs, pick wins. Johnny doesn't really, uh, "tastefully groove" in their music, but rather more or less carry the song. I do think Johnny sells himself a little short on his bass playing in the band though.
I like playing with my fingers. People try to tell me it wont cut through in heavy music but you just have to attack the strings hard enough and use a little bit of distortion you'll cut through. I also like playing with my fingers because its much easier to play standing up in my opinion
@@acajou299 Now, holy shit you're still alive. While I agree with what you said, but I was just pointing out how he meant the song Nightmare not the whole album
Pick give a good sound for certain songs, i don't see the issue, if you learn by finger picking, great, and if you learn by picking then great, all that matters to me is if you can play this or not, good is good.
I personally try to finger everything I play. Just to have that extra strength and speed in my fingers. And to see fingers doing triplets looks way cooler than any type of picking
The fact that johnny stays in pretty much perfect rhythm the whole time is amazing! Very underrated!
He is underrated because he mainly plays with a pick. If he used his fingers, he would be more appreciated
in the last years we can hear very well him on live shows...
...but that's his job..
ManUtd18 that’s the point of a bassist
@@THENINEOFSLIPKNOT555 he does play with his fingers though
Johnny can do both. He changed pick for finger in critical acclaim. Very criative and versatile bass player!
+Arthur Melo Creative* Sorry. :D

Tom Whaley I know I'm late but Johnny uses picks and fingers.
Tom Whaley johnny actually uses his fingers more now then he used to, on fast paced songs he uses a pick

What do you think of his playing on the new album?
@eyelesscrown7346
So true; when I play standing with a pick, I get hand cramps 😣

Damnn my ears almost Deaf after hearing this fucking awesome song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The drums sound awesome when they mix The Rev and PDP. We miss you Jimmy, foREVer!
i know this is a late reply but he actually used his tech's pork pie kit and snare for this record
@@WaitingInExile really? I thought he just used the same from said Pork Pie kit
he finger picks in nightmare and theres some crazy fast parts on that song
LegendaryAllDay you mean the album or the song?
@@acajou299 I know I'm like 5 years too late, but obviously the song..
@@c0smiclobic968 well, that would be wrong. He only started focusing on finger picking on Hail To The King
@@c0smiclobic968 like, the entirety of HttK was played fingerstyle whereas before, it was only a few songs

Muito obrigado
holy shit this sounds amazing
he also finger picks a lot live
why do people hate when a bassist uses a pick? i dont see how fingers make you any better.
It's really just a different style. I don't get it either. I enjoy playing both.
I like the sound you get from playing with pick better
slap bass is the best in my opinion
Playing with a pick vs. fingers changes the sound of the bass in a sort of way.
Arjun Kansara I just dig playing bass with a pick because it's just fun for me haha
Good sounds
Sound So Fantastic . babababa
Did you ever do this song? I just enjoyed some of your other covers. I'd love to hear this one if you do it/have done it and post it.
Yéééah Love A7X
Wow that's a lott of fret buzz! But Johnny makes it sound great!
csk32below wait if there's a lot of fret buzz , isn't it meant to be heard while youre playing alone ?
foREVer X
would you mind if i use this to record a guitar cover??
Iv only come here for.the chorus on bass guitar
I personally try to finger everything I play. Just to have that extra strength and speed in my fingers. And to see fingers doing triplets looks way cooler than any type of picking
"I personally try to finger everything I play" that could come across so wrong 😂😂😂

Or just screenshot it now and crop it
Damn Johnny plays really low.
Jada Dawson this is a year old I know, but he actually just plays in standard
Andy Itliong yeah I posted that before I played bass myself and I didn't really know much about bass lol.
Andy Itliong: I’m pretty sure his bass is tuned to the same key as the guitars; in this case I believe it’s either drop C or drop C#.
But plays good
The song is in drop D
The only thing in which Johnny Christ is not as perfect as in everything is singing))
@kesillo627 nope, go ahead :)
How did you manage to remove the other sounds?
Guitar hero rock band have individual tracks
Yollo
Yeah, that's a pretty fucking good rhytm section.
Hurts to think Johnny uses pick....
Trust me, I'm a bass player.
Many bassists use a pick so what's your point?
