That makes so much sense! I see what you are saying - the engine on an ambulance may be huge, but the vehicle itself is so heavy the drive train already has all it can handle. So, I've learned from you that it is better to get something that was designed to be a tow vehicle than to slap a hitch on some random vehicle just because it has a lot of horsepower!

Warning, a bit of a long yarn ahead... This puts me in mind of a time when I and my late husband, recently married, were traveling around the Pacific Northwest in our very old Ford pickup fitted with a home-built wooden camper. We were in Seattle on a very busy street at the lunch hour, stopped pointed uphill at a traffic signal. When he popped the clutch to get the old pickup over the line to the flat cross-street, it performed admirably. Only problem was, the camper wasn't properly attached to the truck bed, so when the pickup went forward, the camper stayed where it was and fell to the floor. This was our only home at the time and I was totally heartbroken, as tourists were taking film shots of the situation (this was in the 80's!) and even the police who came by weren't too sure what to do next. Fortunately, they were able to call a tow company who knew. They very carefully (remember, the camper was now sat on the ground on an incline) jacked it up just far enough to put some heavy duty dollies under it, put a bumper panel across the back and convinced the police to use their police car (!) to get behind the panel and push the thing up onto the flat cross-street. Once there, my late husband was able to jack up the camper properly and get the pickup back underneath, secure it properly and we resumed our travels, thanks to about a half-dozen police and towing personnel. Oh yes, a day not to be forgotten! [PS: We were married for 21 years before he passed away and I can safely say that was the most exciting day we ever had traveling. I am now re-married to a very quiet and retiring British man and live in the English countryside, living the quiet life ;-) ]

Queen Anne Hill, Capitol Hill, Beacon Hill... Those hills in San Francisco get all the camera time and all the attention in the movies but Seattle's hills are just as glorious and just as steep! AHHHHHH YES, the experience of buying "a very troublesome vehicle". My current car was horribly misrepresented - they meticulously crazy-glued the door handle together (that lasted a minute) and you could only open the hood with pliers (the guy seemed so thoughtful to have opened the hood beforehand) and there was a GENEROUS use of tape underneath the car (so it wouldn't make noise when you drove it). It was spotlessly clean on the interior and the guy had a good story. Hundreds of $$$ in repairs later ... and wondering WHY some people are so dishonest??? There's HUGE power in being KIND. Carry on.

Yes, people are good. When we peel away all the layers of differences, we all have an innate gift to reach out and help one another. When we approach someone who needs help we do not ask about their political inclinations and what-not; we just extend a helping hand. I believe in the innate goodness of people. My heart swelled up with gratitude knowing you were able to experience the beautiful hearts and helping hands of people across America. ❤ I live in Oregon, and it's especially fun to know that your special tiny house found a home close by. Looking forward to when you're back and creating a video about the small towns you visited across our great land.

I've gotten to a point when life (in general and in abstract) becomes a bit too much, I know all I need to do is sit and watch a few of your shows, and BAM... I'm reset and recharged. This episode just goes to show why that is. Your positivity in the times of crisis and frustration, as well as, you are able to keep up making videos even when y'all are in such intense lockdowns now, keeps me going.
I sat here thinking of all the beater vehicles I've had from about 13 on (learned how to fix almost everything on a car with my single mom) and yet here I am at 51 with a van that is more computer than car and I have no clue when the electrical goes all wonky what to do with the ruddy thing! LOL
I think I'm going to keep this episode in mind when I want to blister the paint off the walls and pull my hair out.
    Calm cool collected*
*have you ever reached a point where you wanted to cuss to the heavens above?

We used to have exactly. the same problem with our old Volvo XC90 - I loved that car, we used to call it our big blue giant - but every now and then all the electrical systems would just shut off. It once happened in a tunnel without an extra accident stroke and not being able to even warn the truck that was driving behind us that all our (engine and electrical) power was off was very scary. I quickly threw the car into neutral restarted and thank goodness it worked again and I went straight back into Drive. After that, I decided it was time to let the car go..... I stuck with Volvo though, cause it's very dear to my heart

    1. Ambulance electrical systems are overtaxed from the get go.
    2. Some (all?) of the fail safes on emergency vehicles in the US are intentionally shut off. This means the truck will run until it dies.
    3. Ambulances are pushing their rated weight / towing capacity from the get go.
    4. No ambulance that I ever drove liked long trips.

I just have to say, the most favorite thing about watching your show besides the beautiful tiny houses that you feature, it is the positivities of your show that really drew me to watch and patiently wait until your next upload! I am truly sorry that you had to sell your ambulance and your tiny home in America! It must have been the hardest decision you had to make. But being a positive person that you are, you still see the good side of selling your house and being able to sell it to a friend that you also featured on your show. Hopefully when all this pandemic is over, maybe you can buy it back when you go back to America. Again all the best to the both of you Bryce and Rasa! God bless you both and stay safe! Mabuhay!

Americans, particularly in the South, are hugely friendly and helpful. I have traveled through the south for years. Once, towing an RV, we lost a WHEEL on a narrow highway in Alabama. There was swamp on either side of the road and we watched the wheel roll deep into the swamp! Who just happens to be there that day traveling? Billy Gay, who just happened to own the only Junk Yard for hundreds of miles. They towed our RV to the yard and he and several young men who were his apprentices searched the yard until they found a wheel that would fit. We spent three days with Billy, his family and the young men who hung around learning from the master. Just another story of the south!
