I thought it captured the chaos and confusion of high school, the kids not understanding the other kids, vying for popularity and bullying. If anything, Cameron just wears her confusion out in the open, but they are all completely as confused as she is. In fact, having timelines not fleshed out, people coming and going in the plot, whole sections where no dialogue is necessary, this was what made the show so powerful. That is what life is like. Whether the apocalypse is coming or not.
