This is why I think that the NBA needs to revisit the salary cap. Chicago was forced to either over pay Zach Levine, or let him become a free agent and only have a fraction of cap space to replace Levine with. The NBA should just abolish the soft cap, keep the aprons, or at the very least change the cap hold. If a player becomes a free agent that cap hold shouldn't disappear after the player signs or has their rights revoked and moves on. It could be used as a cap exemption to go over the soft cap if a team decides to let a player go. As this stands right now, it hurts the Bulls. It hurts Levine. The soft cap hurts the NBA as a whole.
Hell no, this is why the CBA needed to be what it is! TO expose the ridiculousness of these contracts mid tier players were forcing on organizations. LMAO at being 3 months into the new CBA and that same 10-15 big market or rich owner teams were so used to absolutely no real ramifications or punitive restrictions existing so they never feared just blowing their wad over and over and over and rolling it forward into perpetuity and dumping those guys on smaller markets or less rich owners who had dumb front offices who were down to just needing to sell tickets to survive. THis CBA is incredible an these teams had FOUR YEARS to prepare for it, FOUR YEARS KNOWING damn well what was coming and what kind of real punishments were being added, and ofc the same old teams and front offices just went all in on, during all 4 of those years got all the advantages of doing it then and not preparing in the slightest, even won championships during that time by doing this or competed during this time strictly bc of taking advantage of smart teams who knew to prepare for this! ANd now you all want them (most of you, your miserable idiotic lakers) to just get a free pass and a do over after they already reaped all the damn benefits of ignoring preparing for this and thinking they were gonna get thier way as usual and screw everyone who sacrificed to be prepared and capable of continuing to improve once the new restrictions and aprons came down. It is PATHETIC that fans of these stupid teams think they should just get to break all the rules and change em, and at the very start of all of this on top of that! Your teams NEVER suffered or sacrificed and now are forced to do so bc of their own stupidly and GREED and want to be saved like always LMAO.
I've been a Zach fan every since him and Wiggins were together. Even played a season of 2K with that Minnesota team. Zach is more than an athlete. He can shoot. Would love to see him with Bron and Brow. Then him and Brow as Brons career comes to an end. I hate watching dudes die on certain teams when they could be somewhere helping a team.
Ideally Zach makes his way to Lakers. He’s an absolutely great fit. The Lakers have been starting Dalton to help with spacing, athleticism in the starting lineup. Zach would be an enormous upgrade on defense, ball handling, playmaking, experience, and a more consistent scorer. Moving a rookie to the bench and bringing in Lavine to pair AR makes all the sense. Even better they could move Reaves and bring in Ayo in the deal. Then you are upgrading both guard positions significantly. Analysts like to argue it’s 3 and d wing that’s needed more. If you are starting AR and Dalton next to any wing, you are screwed. Exhange in A better shooting DLo and still screwed. However if you have Ayo and Lavine, can you get by with Vando, Max or a new wing like Craig? Having Ayo improve your ability to play AD at the 4 along a second big? I think so.
To add to it, you could look to Hornets to bring in Nick Richards and Cody Martin for 13 mil total. And look at signing free agent Fultz, Dennis Smith, or hold a 15th spot till you better evaluate needs and assess Olivari.
I do want people to understand how much the salary cap is growing and how this Zach contract is not THAT BAD. The salary cap is going to increase by like 25-30 million over the next two years. So on his last year of this deal, he aint Dame making 60 million, nor is he that old. The question is whether there is a team with cap space for the next couple of years that doesn't mind to overpay Zach because they can get him for cheap. Detroit should have been that team, he would fit nicely around their young guards and can provide some security, but other teams like the Spurs, Orlando could technically take him on without big consequences, but do they want to take him on?
Somebody should pick him up. I would love him on the lakes but I don’t think we can trade for him.i don’t know if he’s overpaid. But it ain’t that much longer on his contract, two years. I would say he’s slightly over paid. Somebody should still pick him up.
Why would any Lakers fan feel bad that the Bulls would have to give up a draft asset to off load Lavine? Have we not been paying attention to how the Lakers are treated when they try to make a trade? Did we not witness how other teams asked for draft picks to off load Russ? Buddy Hield's price was one or two FRPs for the Lakers but went for peanuts to another team. I'm sorry but I don't feel bad for other teams getting the same treatment.
I would NEVER give an asset with Lavine to get off of him in the position the Bulls are in. I would tell him, buddy, you chose to be one of the 0.000001% highest paid men in America, that's the choice you made and that's what you're going to get. You're trading your prime years for all of that many. We are tanking and you're riding the pine. Simple as that!
Dear Lakers, please pick him up and end his misery. Lakers need this type of impactful star player. Yes he is expensive but if it was Dr. Buss or Jerry West, they would have picked him up long time ago to boost the roster. He would be the James worthy of showtime era.
If the Lakers can capitalize on no one wanting him i say they do it. The contract is crazy, so make up by receiving draft picks for him. You can add all these other pieces but in reality we need a third guy. Austin can't be the third guy. He's good but not a third guy
I more intrigued with what teams are going to do during free agency. Gone are the days when guys like LaVine, John Wall, Beal, get paid like they are top 5 players.
just trade for lavine, he is on the same timeline as lebron and ad. u get to kill 2 birds with one stone, this front office clearly has tried to do both compete and rebuild the last few years. this is ur answer... u get lavine to compete for now and also keep ur future protected with both picks. a cherry on top would bea piece like dorian finney smith. we would fix our 3 and d wing depth, our shot creating issue and our spacing over all.

However, to give US for flexibility in 25/26, ask LBJ to Opt Out and take $30ish Million to give US Room to sign a MLE Player. Side Moves: Trade FINO/Jaxson for Nic Richards, Pray Vando gets Healthy & look for another Bench Guard on The Buyout Market.
You guy always talk stupid. Zach on the Lakers would instantly make the Lakers better and really he would be a number 1 or 2 on most nights with the Lakers.
I dont think you understood the point. Which was hes not a number 1 or 2 consistently on a championship contender. I mean, hes currently the #1 right now in Chicago. That doesnt mean anything. And youre right they absolutely would get better, despite all the depth a team with limited depth would have to give up to match salaries. but its questionable if that is enough to make them a champion. So then we circle back to square one and the original point.
