      @@DwaynePipes Probably had something to do with the previous administration's EV policy mandate which was specifically tailored to financially penalise legacy automakers and see a decline in the sales of IC cars that people actually want to buy and an artificially increase in the sales of EVs that lots of people don't really want to buy. It's quite incredible how the government can railroad people into buying stuff they really don't want by sneaky backdoor methods. Trump revoking Biden's 50% EV target and Kamala Harris failing to secure the Presidency were possibly two of the best things and biggest steps forward for the entire country. Good citizens don't really need to be dictated to via misguided policy on what kind of cars they should or shouldn't be buying or driving from the likes of any stupid government.

    Compared to proper cars with a real engine, EVs are much heavier, have much shorter range, take much longer to refuel, are weather sensitive, the battery degrades unlike a fuel tank and have a shockingly low resale value.... They also do this 🔥
    They are an impractical solution to an imaginary problem. 😲

    • @Ryan-cw1ky
      @Ryan-cw1ky 8 днів тому +1

      Newer EVs typically do 3-400 miles on a charge, if you're doing more than that per day I'd say an ICE car would be more suited for you. They are most certainly heavier and take longer to refuel. Price to performance wise, EVs are very attractive with some offering super car performance for very little money (relative to their ICE counterparts) in the 2nd hand space. Batteries typically last 200k-500k miles and the majority of the battery degradation takes place within the first few thousand miles (~5-10%) and only losing another few % over the next 100k miles. I've personally had an Audi E-Tron and currently have a Volvo C40, I charge at home overnight and don't typically do more than a few hundred miles in a day, I miss the engine sound of my old BMW and the connected feel of the steering but I absolutely love the instant torque and comfort of my EVs. A common misconception is that EVs will just set on fire randomly but for every 1 EV fire there are 61 ICE fires (normalised for sales), the fires however are a lot harder to put out on EVs and typically more dangerous but you are much less likely to crash in an EV (especially if using things like Tesla Autopilot which reduces accident rates by almost 5x)
      Fire incidence (data from the National Transportation Safety Board, Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and other sources)
      ICE vehicles: ~1,529 fires per 100,000 sales
      Electric vehicles: ~25 fires per 100,000 sales

    @BrotherGiles 7 днів тому +3

    One of the biggest misconceptions about electric vehicles (EVs) is their advertised range. Like many products, manufacturers provide figures based on ideal conditions, which often do not reflect real-world driving. In practical use, an EV typically achieves around 80% of its stated range when fully discharged from 100% to 0%.
    Furthermore, to optimize battery longevity and charging efficiency, it is recommended to operate the battery between 80% and 20% capacity. This reduces the usable range by an additional 40%, resulting in an overall range reduction of approximately 60% from the advertised figure. As a result, a vehicle initially rated for 200 miles may realistically require a charge stop every 80 miles-significantly impacting convenience and long-distance usability.

In my opinion, we need both electric vehicles and internal combustion engine (ICE) cars on the roads. The government should stop pushing electric cars on people and instead focus on developing synthetic fuels. This would allow people to keep their perfectly functional cars without having to switch to an EV. We already have the technology to create clean fuels that can power ICE cars over 20 years old-so why aren't we focusing on this? It just doesn't make sense to me.

    Do you have Gap Insurance? If you don't and your car were to be written off or set on fire the insurance will pay lower book value but your PCP ends of agreement settlement won't apply so you could be on the hook for the early exit figure on your PCP and be out of pocket by tens of thousands of pounds?

    No you can't undertake, you can if in a queue of traffic and the left lanes are moving, the simple rule is we drive on the left and the other lanes are overtaking lanes, you should move back to the left lane after overtaking (ex bike instructor here)

    You can only undertake if the traffic in the right lane is queuing. That car on the motorway you should overtake in the third lane as normal

    The TYRES are a rip off, 450 pounds a tyre that's 900 pounds for 2 tyres, translate that into AUSSIE dollars $1800 that's ridiculous. EVs are a rip off you couldn't give me one for free. In the US many put a $2500 down payment on the CYBER TRUCK and the sales people been ringing up the people who put down payment to pick them up, now refuse to pick them up, sounds like they rather loose the $2500. Sounds like there about to hit the wall with there EVs.

    The problem with being next to a power station is the power leave at 400 KV (400,000 volts) that requires a very large substation to bring the voltage down to 11KV and yet another substation to bring the voltage down fo local distribution so they will have connected to the local distribution lines and there may well be not enough capacity to power fast chargers. I have known farms right next to power stations and or sub stations not have any electricity from the mains because the voltage is to high and the cost of a transformer is to great for the suppliers to bother with a connection.

    • @15bit62

      That's actually complete nonsense. For one the efficiency of generating electricity from coal or gas and charging an EV is actually higher than burning petrol in a combustion engine (you obviously can't burn coal in a 4 stroke engine). For the second part, that first part is largely irrelevant as the UK has shut all of the coal power stations, and slightly decreased the use of gas over the last 10 years. Consequently CO2 emissions from electricity generation are now 1/3 of what they were in 2012.

    Hi Lee, I have an apology to make to both you and Glenn's Tyres. My research on tyre prices was based on the reg. of your car(milk float) which indicated 275's. After watching your latest video in full I see that you opted for the larger wheels(hardly surprising your car cost north of £120k)😂I have to say I prefer to use the smaller independent tyre company's as they generally provide a better service and more often than not can match or better the big boy's on price! Once again my apologies for providing incorrect information(when I'm wrong I say I'm wrong).
