    Nowadays, these old upholstery designs are still in fashion and mostly used on furniture.
    Should I be interested in learning this technique if I am a car trimmer?
    Of course, it is important to consider it in our training/learning list.
    In the 19th century the first automobiles were invented and this technique was adapted to upholster in leather the seats and other parts. Naturally, the original tufted diamonds were padded/filled with horse hair and natural cotton. As time passed by, synthetic materials such as foam, industrial cotton, glues, etc. appeared in the market and upholsterers started to use these new materials in their jobs.
    Currently, there are antique car collectors who pay well to get their car interiors restored. These collectors should resort to a motor coach trimmer or specialist to tackle these upholstery patterns. Some of these car collectibles can be replicated as originals by using the original materials as mentioned lines above, horse hair, etc. Other collectors want siynthetic materials.
    The knowing of this technique has helped me to make a small bench seat for my shop. Besides, it is a training to be ready if a car collector calls me out.
    I hope you find some enjoyment and inspiration in this video!

      I have used upholstery leather. This leather has a sealer on top to add durability without losing its softness. Automotive leathers are included as sturdy leathers.

    wonderful job. What are the measurements of the tufting holes on the foam and then on the leather?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  3 роки тому

      The holes on the foam are 7/8" The leather was just pricked in the rhomb intersection with an awl to let the thick thread pass through.

    Hello, I'm want to upholstery but the sewing machine I bought was cheap and want to get an industrial machine, what make and model would you prefer? I love your videos and inspire me to keep going

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  3 роки тому +2

      The ideal sewing machine to do upholstery is an industrial, flat bed, single needle, triple transport (walking foot) sewing machine. Or at least, a double transport (walking foot) machine.
      ua-cam.com/video/U3HBXBDDKoo/v-deo.html
      New ones are expensive. But it is possible to get a used machine in perfect condition.
      I have found this link for you:
      www.advancedsewing.com/usedsewingmachines.html I have realized they sell different good trade marks, such as Juki, Consew, Pfaff, Brother, Adler, etc.
      It is a matter of doing your own research by getting in touch with a professional vendor from this store.
      Another handy option would be to get in touch with John from Lucky Needle. He could provide you good assistance in order to get a sewing machine at an accessible price. I have realized he is a sales representative of some good trade marks.
      Click and check out 'sewing machines section'. Do not forget to get a 'triple transport machine' (walking foot):theluckyneedle.com/upholstery-sewing-machines/
      Sailrite is also a good source too: ua-cam.com/video/785t34oHe4w/v-deo.html
      You would have to review the options and take your own decision.
      I hope this information helps.

      @@Cechaflo thank you so much, my singer 4452 sewing machine couldn't handle thick foam

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  3 роки тому +1

      @@ranchwood8053 I understand , the feed dog drags the foam back with difficulty. Perhaps, there is eonough room in the needle bar area, so you could adapt a small roller presser foot.
      There is a process I show in a video:ua-cam.com/video/V_IYfp7zBfI/v-deo.html

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  3 роки тому +2

      @@ranchwood8053 On second thought, I have forgotten your machine does different stitches, ziz zag, etc. The roller presser foot is only for straight sewings. What you could do is leave it that way. If you would need more feeding of material it would be necessary to change the feed dog for one of bigger teeth. Besides a teflon flat presser foot would be of great help.
