Terri did some things in this movie but at least did the most to correct them. And cousin faith 🤣, it’s several of them in my family on both sides 🤨.
This movie came out around the time my grandmother passed and I was like 11 or 12. But I must say that until this review I never really looked at this movie from Terri’s eyes they really did her dirty. This is one of my favorite movies, but whew do I have thoughts! I understand Soul Food has rich tradition in African American culture. But why wasn't Big Mama taking care of herself? She up there talking about herbs instead of taking her damn insulin!! Why didn't anybody check on Uncle Pete? Did he need to be in a facility or a home? Also, was he at the funeral? Did nobody tell him that his sister died until max talks to him in the dining room? Why do they speak of such affection towards their father when he almost made them homeless due to his gambling addiction? Why did big mama have Teri paying her bills when she had a stash of cash, upstairs? And why wasn't the money in the bank? Why wasn't it in a high yield savings account? Maxine was wrong as hell for what she did with Kenny period! They make it seem like it's just some little fight that Teri and Max had when it was literally over Kenny and they make it seem like Teri just needs to move on and let bygones be bygones when she has to watch the man that her sister stole from her marry her and have kids with her!! Do Max and Kenny ever sincerely apologize to Teri? I doubt it. Terry is wrong for always giving these people money and then throwing it in their faces. Either give them the money set up payment plans or expectations from them to pay you back or realize that you're in this cycle where you're always going to be taking care of your family. And that is your role and deal with it. You don't have to give them money. You don't have to take care of everybody, but stop doing it and then resenting them for it. That's not fair. I also think part of Teri and Max's feud comes from Teri probably being positioned as the smart one of the 3, and it seems like she was maybe pushed more academically and seen as more academically gifted versus her sisters. Yeah, maybe max resents her for that. Lem is wrong for lying and putting his hands on that woman! I don't care how mad you are and what she did! Bird is also wrong for calling in Simuel of all people to be the one to get Lem a job. She knows he ain't shit and she know Simuel was going to hold it over Lem's head! Terry is wrong for not caring about her husband's feelings and needs. Miles literally wrote that song about Teri. He's begging for her attention an affection. "Girl I care about you. I'm there for you so why don't you care for me like I care about you." Miles, DEAD WRONG and Teri should have stabbed his ass! Knowing that Faith has this bad history of irresponsibility, wspecially when it comes to Big Mama & her money, why the hell did Teri let Faith in her house?! I felt bad for Ahmad because he was placed in this position to fix these problems of these adults! Why did it take this 11 year old boy to get everyone together and get them to get out of their own ways and start being better and acting better? He's eleven that's not his job!! Overall great movie, great soundtrack! ❤

You mention Mama Joe having to get on her hands and knees for the white folks I didn't like how the director zoomed in on Vanessa Williams we know her mom is White. Another movie that you should view is Freedom Writers they were talking about how the Jews have big noses I didn't like how they zoomed in on Mario We all know he got some nostrils on him.

I enjoyed watching Soul Food as a kid.
Myles was married to Terry but she was married to her career. But she had to work as hard as she did.
