Hybrid Games is the only way for AAA VR Games to flourish. The user install base for VR Games is too small to justify the cost of developing AAA VR Games. Hybrid games offer the lowest development cost and a VR Mode for AAA Games would make VR gaming really attractive. Only the PSVR 2 is poised to do that but who knows where Sony's head is at these days.
Very true! I feel like expensive single player games in VR are a bad idea, since usually single player campaigns are so short... Red matter 2 for example is a great game, but less than 10 hours of gameplay... Anything under 25 hours of gameplay I don't even bother buying.
Absolutely, but the adaptation needs proper respect and attention from devs, not throaway or misguided efforts like hitman's attempt and some others. Just tacking on a properly implemented VR mode can get you some sales you wouldn't have, raise the value proposition for your game and get you awards due to how little competition there is at that level in VR.
I agree. I have a psvr2 and I’m disappointed with the lack of hybrid games from IP’s that Sony owns. Imagine VR modes for Spider-Man 2, demon souls, the last of us, tear down, and all of the others. The potential is INSANE but Sony doesn’t seem interested in capitalizing on it for whatever reason…
There at least 4 now that have came to mind. I didn’t originally put echo in it due to it only existing as a franchise in vr but yeah I should of added it
From the perspective of someone who has never played any flatscreen games whatsoever: This tells me two things: 1. Most (not all, Alyx is a thing) of the games listed here that I have played didn't feel great. They didn't feel like properly thought out for VR. Almost all the VR games that for me just clicked and "felt right" were not the ones coming from a big AAA flatscreen studio. So making a VR game obviously is very, very different from making a flatscreen game. 2. It's pretty impressive what the studio managed to do with Assassin's Creed Nexus. While there are still a few things in there that felt like non-VR tropes (cutscenes for example), it actually feels really really good to play.
I second this. AAA VR Games don't feel AAA yet. We are either limited more by hardware or development efforts. I even considered having a different metric to measure VR Games. Not using the traditional A-AAA.
HL: Alyx might be my favorite game of all time... I was in awe from start to finish. That said, I'm playing Asgard's Wrath right now and it should be on this list!
Oh god :D Why did you mentioned Star Wars Battlefront X-Wing expirience and forgot about full game that expanded this concept Star Wars Squadrons! Definately one of the best VR expiriences on the market I really really hope we will see it on PSVR2 soon.
I'm beginning to think that I need nothing more than Gt7 in VR. Got my new playseat rig coming this week and hope to upgrade from my thrustmaster to a direct drive wheel just after Christmas.
You’re getting seriously hooked on sim racing then. The GT sport VR demo was my gateway drug to PCVR racing like Assetto Corsa, AMS2, Dirt Rally 2, etc. AC is on another level compared to GT7 for physics and force feedback, though, especially with a direct drive wheel.
It’s crazy how good some of these old VR games look. A lot of the new AAA games coming out look like shit because they’re all tryna be playable on Quest 🙄 Really hope Sony invest some proper money into big budget exclusives
Doom VFR was absolutely fantastic. I played it with the aim controller. Skyrim was great on PSVR but was held back by the locomotion limitations with the motion controllers.
I still haven’t finished AC. But so far after a few hours, even as a PCVR player, it’s a fantastic game and it also looks really crisp on the quest 3. It’s fun and it’s a full full game no experiences tech demo bs.
Thanks for mentioning Medal Of Honor on PCVR, it's actually one of my favorite game ever! I don't understand the negative reviews, it's one of the best game you can play in VR. I suspect the high specs requirements to run it well with beautiful graphics to be the cause.
Hell yeah, Shadow of the Colossus would be epic in VR! It might be a bit tough to port, but it could be incredible. I'm also hoping Behemoth can scratch that itch at least a little bit.
A list like this is helpful. If you are starting VR, like me, I started in 2022 with Quest 1; you have a BIG variety of games and there is no reason to be bored. Stormland is on my wishlist but the option to buy is no longer available.
You completely forgot about these: 1. The Forest 2. Flight Simulator 3. Project Cars 2 4. Elite Dangerous 5. Subnautica 6. Fallout 4 VR 7. Red Matter 2 8. Cities VR 9. Lone Echo 1/2 10. Seeking Down 11. The Invisible Hours 12. Hubris .... and many many more huge, great games ;)
I keep having a weak spot for scifi vr games from 2015-2020. Somehow they just hit the hardest for me. This includes Lone Echo and Stormland. Even the lone echo 2 which is a more recent title. Space or scifi vr games just do it so well for me haha.
Hellblade is incredible and VR makes it that much more captivating. I just got my Quest 3 and that is one title I will be going back to play through again. The name of the game is a bit silly as it really makes it sound like another generic beat-em-up and that game is anything but that. I cannot recommend that game enough - it is a must play.
Great video, GT. I think you hit all of the major ones and I'm glad you sprinkled in rumors of Switch 2 having VR support. I'm so excited to see what Nintendo will do with proper VR, assuming the rumors are true, that is.
Instead of X-wing you can play Star Wars squadron only negative is there is no player base for multiplayer. And instead of Wipeout you can play Redout on PC. Sadly Redout 2 doesnt have VR support.
I loved lone echo. First big game I completed on the rift. But I'll never forget the intro to Robo recall when all the robots turn and look at you. Scared the hell out of me! 😅
Great Video, keep it up! You have some of the best, authentic content and deserve more subscribers. Other VR content creators are always so obnoxiously loud with unfunny over the top "humor" or are just shills for Meta. PSVR had a really good run; it reminds me of the PSP in how it had decent first and third party support throughout its lifecycle...I really wish PSVR2 was backwards compatible!!!!! I hope PSVR2 doesn't end up like the Vita :( Microsoft buying Bethesda and Activision is a major blow to the VR community
Bethesda also put out an official release of Doom 3 with aim support (and bugged scale), you mentioned X-Wing experience but not Squadrens 😂 Bridge crew was also pretty chunky. Still a solid reminder of some of the titles we have. May there be many more to come!
The PSVR version of Doom 3 was actually outsourced to a company called Archiact, and they wanted to fix the various issues with it (especially the scale), but Bethesda had been bought by Microsoft by the time the game released so they couldn't get any permission/funding to do a patch.
Bro, you missed Star Wars Squadrons! I thought for sure you'd bring it up after Vader Immortal, then I thought for sure you'd talk about it after the Star Wars Battlefront demo, but nope! 😂 It's a fantastic VR experience, especially with a HOTAS! Also the PSVR version is one of only about a handful of games that's significantly visually improved when played on a PS5. I need to fix my HOTAS so I can go back and finish the single player campaign.
Nice video 👍 totally agree with the gt7 comments. And no you can't go back to 2D after. I was getting into rally and acc but now it all feels so flat and un immersive compared to GT. Most of these were before my time, it was GT7 and Horizon with the promise of RE that sold it for me. All else is a bonus. Been having a lot of fun on surviv3 in co-op where as i used to mainly play single. Arizona sunshine is one i am really looking forward to after playing surviv3. I enjoy creed, great exercise and beat saber. If i could have my cake and eat it i would ask for an out and out rally game. 100mph between 2 narrow rows of trees would be mind blowing. But yer the first 2 played a big part in me taking the leap and I'm sure thats the same for a few others. Keep up the great content 👌
Older game, but I really thought Damaged Core had a very AAA experience at the time and it was really challenging as well. It was made by High Voltage, the devs that did The Conduit for Wii. Also, Defector was another one as well. Cheers!
Asgards Wrath I think is the best VR game ever made. GOD of War in VR with features comparable to Flat games which is feature complete. It has a massive campaign with tons of awesome setpieces, brutal combat, cool upgrade system and metroidvania levels that you can return to once you achieve new powers to open them. If you compare Asgards Wrath to other VR games, those other games will feel like tech demos in comparison.
Still hoping that perhaps next year or 2025 more Flat-Games will just have a VR mode. But getting GT7, RE8 and 4 in the first year of PSVR2 is a good start. If this pace is keept for the lifecicle of PSVR2 I'm golden 🥰 Now I'm thinking about a native Red Dead Redemption 2 VR Version again 🤤
Yeah, honestly some of the best VR games rn are just flat game ports. VR devs really need to step it up and get creative if they want to compete with AAA flat games being ported well to VR.
@@ianwatson5767 Yeah it's tough for VR developers, since they can't get the same sort of funding/resources flat devs can. I think they need to start sharing/licensing tech and gameplay code, and collaborating in other ways if they're going to survive. Like, how many VR developers have tried to build their own melee physics systems from scratch? It's insanely hard to do and most developers wind up with sub-par results, so instead of that developers should be licensing the tech from one of the few companies that's gotten it right and then building on it to make it unique. There's a whole lot of reinventing the wheel going on when it comes to tech and gameplay, and that's making things worse.
@@GreyMatterShades definitely. I've started developing some VR games in Unreal Engine ( I'm just a beginner ) yet there's almost no resources available, very very few tutorials, bad/non existent documentation. I feel like it takes me weeks to achieve something that should be easy to do right out of the box. I think indie devs often try to go for AAA results and then fail miserably. VR devs should think about fun/creative VR only ideas. For example some of the most played VR games of all time like Super hot and Beat Saber are incredibly simple to make, yet are top selling and people can't put them down. Graphics mean very little in VR imo.
Can these be played on the Q3 through steam? I have a pc that can run steam VR so I’m confused at whether I should just buy my titles on steam instead since they’re running a bit better than native quest.
Oh, I saw a review a while back (can't recall who made it) and they crapped all over Borderlands 2 VR, so because of that, I avoided it completely, but BL2 was one of my favourite games.
If it was the IGN review, there were literally issues they brought up in the review that could be fixed by changing settings in the game, iirc. I haven't played it, but I know a lot of people really enjoyed it, especially on PSVR with the Aim controller.
There were 3 or 4 older titles on PC (that just looked awesome) but I couldn't get into them because developers were still figuring out the locomotion controls and button layouts when they were released. These days thanks to meta's examples with the touch controllers, we are seeing much fewer problems in this regard.
Why do you think Sony didn't use the optics in Psvr2 that were in Psvr? I remember trying a PsVr helmet once, but then I didn’t know about sweetspot. PsVr had aspherical lenses, right? That is, better quality than Fresnel? I understand that nothing will change, but I still wonder why this happened? The question hung in the air. Who designed Psvr2? Is there any way I can ask this person a question? About the reasons that prompted them to decide to install fresnel lenses, because the helmet came out in 2023. Great respect to the presenter of this channel for this video! An excellent selection, because all these games passed me by. I don't regret at all that I wasn't more familiar with PsVr. Psvr2 is a little disappointing so far. There is a small hope for December 7th that AS2 will be released immediately without the need to fix problems with patches. That is, I am sure that there will certainly be patches, and yet, I hope that in terms of the visual part, we will get a truly strong project at the start. By the way, why is everyone praising the upcoming Vertigo 2 so much? What's so special about it or is it just a hype train?
Great video. I do disagree on Assassin's Creed Nexus as I found it to be rather crappy, but let's just agree to disagree - I was a little torn on keeping the game to support "triple-a" in VR, but then again I had to punish and get my refund for what I perceive to a bad-performing, lackluster game. One teensy-weensy thing. I really don't like the term "must-buy". I tend to prefer "must-play" - nothing wrong with borrowing your friend's VR-headset, right? And you are absolutely right about, Alyx - everything is compared to Alyx, which is perfectly fair.
AAA implies high budget so the only game i would consider as VR AAA that were built from ground up for vr is half life alyx the rest is mostly demo mobile games or poor conversions from 2d.
I have bought the first psvr because o borderlands 2 vr. And it was awesome. I would love if they could bring bl2 or bl3 to psvr2 with a proper Coop. Is the only game I really miss right now on my psvr2.
When PSVR2 was announced He made comments that other Games für Om his Studio are coming to the Plattform. Let's hope that will come true. Playing Borderlands 3 Perhaps with coop this Time around would be amazing 😍
@@gervasiosgerva I think the head of Gearbox tweeted sometime before PSVR 2's launch asking if anyone would be interested in BL3 on PSVR 2. Lots of people replied. Hopefully something comes of it. 🤞
Triple is spelled with one "P" btw. No hate, just letting you know to change the title. Could also just be AAA, most gamers already know what that means.
I'd love to play Wipeout VR, but I just don't like tethered Vr and I'm in the STEAM ecosystem (and not right now willing to pay 1000 dollars for PS5 and PSVR).
Doom vfr was one of the most disappointing vr games I've played. Shocking because I love 2016 and DE. The locomotion is still among the worst of the medium. Makes it an absolute chore to play.
@@GAMERTAGVR that wouldn't affect double ps but I'm just teasing you ...I actually was under the impression that UA-camrs have other people put their titles on their content I've seen articles about it 👍
sick and tired of VR being mostly tech demos... VR has so much more potential.. mostly indie devs making games.. combat in AC nexus is so outdated, its like the devs just took what was on console and port the mechanics to VR..

PC: Asgard‘s Wrath, The Climb, Subnautica, Elite Dangerous, Microsoft Flight Simulator!!!, The Forest, Green Hell. PSVR: Farpoint
Psvr: blood and truth, astrobot rescue mission.
Doom 3, Star Wars Squadrons, Star Trek Bridge Crew, Lone Echo

Propergation paradise hotel id a really good horror VR game, if anyone has played resident evil 1 it's very similar to that.
I know assassin's Creed just released but having played about half of it so far I'd already put it on the list
No star wars squadron ?
Unfortunately it slipped my mind and there’s also one other 😞 just waiting for someone to figure it out
@@GAMERTAGVRno man’s sky?
Thanks GT.
Great list
still dont understand why there is no PS VR2 upgrades for frirst PS VR games..
Superhot VR and Boneworks are games I'm always back.
@@Our1Path the borderlands 2 vr launched almost 2 years after the first psvr launched. So lets hope we can see something announced next year.
@@gervasiosgerva I think the head of Gearbox tweeted sometime before PSVR 2's launch asking if anyone would be interested in BL3 on PSVR 2. Lots of people replied. Hopefully something comes of it. 🤞
I'm really disappointed that Stormland dosen't appear to be available for purchase. I could be wrong though. The oculus store is a bit shit.
Im surprised skyrim isnt on quest and mobile, its on everything else.
Same. Not sure what’s gonna happen now being owned by Xbox
Triple is spelled with one "P" btw. No hate, just letting you know to change the title. Could also just be AAA, most gamers already know what that means.
mass effect please!
Star Wars Squadrons is missing from the list.
Thanks
Thank you so much!
@@GAMERTAGVR I'll keep supporting as often as i can!! I'm always passed out during live streams as I'm two hours ahead. 😅
iron man, Wilson's heart, seeking down are missing
Still never played Wilson’s Heart. Iron man is good shout
@@GAMERTAGVR seeking dawn is old style aaa too
That game remind me of blood roars
I'd love to play Wipeout VR, but I just don't like tethered Vr and I'm in the STEAM ecosystem (and not right now willing to pay 1000 dollars for PS5 and PSVR).
Batman was a decent experience. A bit pricey for the hour
You forgot Star Wars Squadrons awesome VR game
What is AAA
Skyrim VR was great
Sony is like...Slap!!!
Hopefully GTA 6 has a vr mode.
Some great games in there, Alyx is still the best even now.
not shocked that you purposely didn't mention horizon call of the mountain.
Game was trash man.

How is gt7 the best vr racing game ???
Someone can list games?
iRacing and Project Cars 3 in vr > GT7
All were now waiting is for a Fripple A VR game
After watching all these games, I feel like PSVR2 has pretty dull lineup of games...
Doom vfr was one of the most disappointing vr games I've played. Shocking because I love 2016 and DE. The locomotion is still among the worst of the medium. Makes it an absolute chore to play.
Cant rockstar just do gta6 in vr and catapult the industry?!
I sure hope somebody else makes up your titles to your videos because triple is spelled wrong😂
Apologies. I’m dyslexic but I do try my best.
@@GAMERTAGVR that wouldn't affect double ps but I'm just teasing you ...I actually was under the impression that UA-camrs have other people put their titles on their content I've seen articles about it 👍
I didn't find this game enjoyable. The first two hours were tutorials and I hated it.
Which one?
Assassin's Creed Nexus.
sick and tired of VR being mostly tech demos... VR has so much more potential.. mostly indie devs making games.. combat in AC nexus is so outdated, its like the devs just took what was on console and port the mechanics to VR..
ERRRR!!!!!!!! ASTRO BOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
