Musical Fidelity As M6s prx amplifier does have 2 toroidal transformers... they're stacked on top of each other (230 wpc, low .007% THD, SNR >120dB, dual monoblock in 1 chassis, 140 peak current at 130 volts so it's less in the US at 112 volts but I would deduct that this is same as a Parasound A21+ at 60 amps peak/channel) to replace my Parasound 2125v2 (I'll repurpose it to power my movies surround L/R and take that load off of my Arcam AVR5 receiver in a 7.4.4 setup). I was gonna get an integrated Musical Fidelity M6si (my requirement is a Home Theater bypass and L/R balance) but it didn't have a L/R balance to help imaging of vocalist; but my Parasound 2100 preamp does. streaming source=Apple Music lossless
Musical Fidelity M6si is a BEAST! It drives your speakers, the sound is so neutral and gorgeous. I highly recommend you guys to audition it. Hard to find though!
The AS1100, AS2100 and AS3000 are completely different circuit with balanced floating mosfets design. Best amp you can get, forget about luxman etc.. you'll fall in love with music like never before. If not that then GhentAudio class D monoblocks.
You should take into account the difference between factory and hand built amps. The reason why Rega for example does not look so impressive is because its a single engineer who makes the amp behind his desk. That looks a bit less impressive than factory assembled hardware but every joint/component is measured and validated during assembly. They give lifetime warranty on manufacture defects so they're pretty convinced themselves about the quality they deliver. I don't see the Japanese brands providing this level of customer service.
Highly recommend the Yamaha A-S2100. It's preamp is one of the most tube-like SS preamps out there, giving it a warm, natural sound. I compared it's preamp to a Schiit Freya+ with NOS CBS tubes and the sound, especially holographic top end, were very similar, but the Yammy had a slightly wider sound stage. The S2100 pairs well with neutral to bright speakers. The phono stage is excellent. You can also run the preamp/power section as separates if you want to pair it with other preamps or power amps to experiment. So it is a separate and an integrated amp. In the end I prefer the Yammy's preamp as an integrated amp. The only addition was a McIntosh MP-100 phono stage, but it took $2k to best the Yammy's phono...

I have the lower priced Yamaha AS1100 and it’s by far the best integrated I’ve owned and I’ve had a lot. It isn’t perfect but it does so many things right. It beats the naim, Rega, Cambridge, and Sony integrateds I’ve tried in that price range. The 2100 would be my pick
I own both Yamaha and Luxman equipment and i have to say the sound from both is first class the Luxman is an older design and only a 50w per ch unit but very good sound for its age and smaller speakers, the Yamaha is a more modern unit 100w per ch a very clean fast sounding unit, the only way to decide is to listen
Thanks for doing what few other reviewers do in detail; compare under the hood, amps of similar price. I can see now what sets many of the Japanese manufacturers apart from their competition. it isn't only sound but build quality that matters.
I own the Yamaha a-s2100 and it is very nice, but if I could afford it, I would go for the Yamaha a-s3000! I saw a “new in box”one for under 5,000 on eBay today. Happy Shopping!
A-S3000 is very nice and great sounding amp for sure but when I saw their separates I was amazed by it and M5000 just won Best Buy Of 2019(High End Category)Award in Japan beating out Accuphase, Luxman and many other high end brands.

I had the Yamaha A-S2100. Very good amp. Detailed sound and one of the best amplifiers I had for tuneful and detailed bass. After two and half years it went into protect mode and had to be sent back to the agent for repair/reset. It seems to be a common problem on the A-S2100 and some have had the "protect" issue even on the flagship A-S3000. Happy now with my 1989 Accuphase P-11 power amp and 1983 Accuphase C-222 preamp. My second system is a Muzishare X-5 EL 34 tube amp. Bang for buck tube amp. Well built too.
Hi, I totally agree with your attitude when it comes to amplifiers build and design. I also prefer japanese solid build, weight, and features. In my country we often say (I am from Poland) that english air (inside amps chassis) is very expensive. It is just a joke about what you get for your money comparing to Japan brands. And another thing - loved your comment about loudness function in Luxman amp. It is so NO - audiophile, but so usefull at evenings ! I had it in my Denon PMA 720 AE and used it often when listening at low volume levels. I have now Yamaha A-S1100 and I am absolutely in love with this beauty (even though it has no loudness:)) It works with Tannoys XT 8F's. Yes I’m tired of expensive air :) , it seems to me that many people are going to buy base on what reviewers said, many of them have no idea about important of the build quality for an amplifier is, marketing is best thing for companies to make profit, not the better build quality to consumers, thank you.
I have the Yamaha AS-2100. Beautiful sound. Built with Japanese parts in ASIA. Very reliable...I have over 6000 hours on it. Never had an issue. COST USD is $3500.00 I would consider the Luxman also for $1000.00 dollars more as it is made in Japan and looks solid like my Yamaha. I would have paid more for my Yamaha to have the made in Japan decal. I wonder how these two compare in sound? I can fully recommend the Yamaha. It is truly amazing.
You should do more research about balance inputs. Luxman is only single-ended, not a true balance amp so it will be much better to connect it with RCA inputs for better sound. I have Luxman 509x.
Heard the Yamaha a-s3000 yesterday at a local shop hooked up to B&Ws 703 S2 floorstanders, found the synergy dynamite, if the a-s2100 is 75% of its big brother it probably would pair well with your B&Ws. Would like to hear Luxman but no one in my city carries the brand that I know of.

I’m powering my Rubicon2 with the As2100. People think I’m using a subwoofer 😂 The amp is a beast. At 9 clock my room starts shaking . Superb performer . The heatsinking system is excelent that never got warm

I would say with Luxman high end JBL standmounts sound incredible like 4349 but KEF reference is also great choice, and Luxman engineers uses JBL as well in their listening room.
I auditioned the Atoll in300 a few days ago with Kef ls50s and Elac vela bs 403..the sound was very clean and refined with very good dynamics and i think its an amazing intergrated amp for the price... I'm looking forward in buying one and pairing it with my kef R3s!!

I've heard a lot of these. I don't think the Marantz is what you are looking for. Upper-end Yamaha is very neutral and pairs well with a lot of speakers. Hegal makes some nice gear, but better gear exists for the money. I heard the Rouge Audio CM3 and it was impressive. I am debating on buying a used one or the newest Gallion tube amp (from Thomas)assuming I can grab a used one for the right price. Never heard anything from Accuphase or mid tier Luxman but I would imagine these are top-tier. The Luxman in particular would be on the shortlist based on everything I have read. The underrated amps are done so because it's done so at a tolerance. An amp can reach 500 watts while on fire. Another amp like Luxman would rate the same amp at 100 ( at a reliable distortion tolerance) My list would be 1. Luxman 2. Rogue tube or Gallion tube 3. Mcintosh 4. Yamaha 5. Bryston
There is no underrated amplifier in general but yes many overrated with Dynamic Power at 1Khz especially in entry level range, most reputable brands rated conservatively for power output, power is just numbers what most important for sound quality is power supply. Spend the 1k more and get the McIntosh. or my personal favorite, the Anthem STR, has more feathers more power , measures better and has room correction for bass management. And its cheaper than the Mac. Cruchfied has it at 4999.99.

I’d love to have a Luxman again. Had a pair of M4000As, but they died after 15 years and parts were no longer available for propriety boards. Sounded great until the day they stopped operating. Alpine had ownership of the name by then and no real support could be had. Still sad over that. Since then, Luxman regained control of the name.
BUT, I still have my original Yamaha CR-600 receiver driving my B&W DM4s. Only replaced the lights... twice since 1974! And it is still used daily in my garage/man cave/workshop along with the B&Ws.
The updated Yamaha SA series (1200, 2200) have toroidal instead of iron-core transformers. Not sure what else has changed. They are supposed to start shipping in May, 2020. Price has increased about $300.
Great video. I think the Yamaha and the Luxman are on my short list based on your analysis and others. I am waiting to find one used if possible. There is also the Vincent SV 237 to consider.
yamaha.. .. clean design clean sounding everything just seems to be clean and right. never heard the 2100 but i really love the looks of yamaha designs. i just dont know why. my dream amp as 2100..
The Yamaha is being discontinued. Some dealers in UK still have them at reduced price. Some OOS stating new model in April. Grab a bargain or wait for new model. Or save up for a higher grade dual mono amp.
@@classicrock7890 Where did you heard that? I am pretty sure that A-S2100 A-S1100 will not be retired. New high-end models like M-5000 or C-5000 are several level higher than A-S3000 or A-S2100 models. They are priced at USD 13k which is out of reach to most of audiophiles.
The Yamaha AS2100 looks great. I have the RN803 for the bedroom and it sound nice. Had a listen to the new 5000 series and it’s superb. If the AS2100 sits it between it should be a darn great amp to own.
Not sure I agree with your internal observations, but out of that list I wd have the Atoll and Hegel on shortlist. The Atoll is a warmer sound. With the Luxman I wd pay extra for next model up. Also for 5k or just over, you cd buy a Pass XA25 and simple pre amp ie Schiit
Atoll looks great but each of it’s own, I’m not fan of cheap parts in high price amps like Hegel, I’m going to stick with what I think is better quality that last for very long time.
Hint 6 is good but phono stage is not good enough for me, even compared to my current amp but they do have nice clean power though. I might be going to try totally different amplifier in the future, thanks

I have the Marantz PM-10 and was unsure about the Class D but after some listening on 3 different speaker manufacturers and speaker types, I enjoy the sound. My main system is McIntosh C47/MC452. I was also looking into the Yamaha S3000 before going with the Marantz.
I don't have the big dollar Yamaha like that. But I've had a few over the years and enjoy my Yamaha amps. They might not have the flashy name of some of the other companies but they seem Rock Solid. That one you're showing look beautiful inside to me the luxman is very nice as well both little out of my price range at this time
I have the Musical Fidelity, the Yamaha, a Luxman 507II and a Marantz KI pearl lite and they are all great. Also a Nad 3020D and a beautiful McCormack pre-power. The Luxman has become resident but I will say the Musical Fidelity (Muscular Fidelity) gets a run quite often. It has a great sound driving my Audio Physic floorstanders. I love them all but am getting too old to keep switching between amps. Cabling is all Kimber and sources Clearaudio, Oppo, and Bluesound. PS power cables are Isotek and I sometimes use a Dynaudio subwoofer when listening to Digitally Imported's dub, vocal house, psydub etc.
BIG Transformer and BIG Compacitors is what matters! Parasound, Atoll and Yamaha in that order. Just not sure of the realiability and warranty with the Atoll
Does the atoll have dual torroidal transformers? Holy smokes! Add the Yamaha or Technics SU G700 level meters to that and the search for stereo is over. We're going to compare X, Y, Z receiver to Atoll and before we begin the comparison, Atoll instantly wins because it sounds and looks better. We didn't even have to power on the other receiver :-) It tried its best but failed while in the box.
Hegel are designed in Norway and made in China. They sound good but quality of constraction is not on par with Japanese amps. Dismissing an amplifier just based on the topology used is something i do not recommend, even more so when the amplifier is voiced by KI himself. I had the Yamaha and it is built like a tank. As far as i know Rogue Audio amp is also Class D based on B&O ICE modules while Marantz chose Ncore.
Yes and no because if I see it inside I can tell the quality and I can tell who actually make them, I did audition at the show rooms, even traveled to So Cal except for Atoll and Aethos.
Have you ever considered a used hegel integrated? Off-topic, i recently sold my marantz pm8006, it was great for the klipschs rp8000s, but for the bowers wilkins 700 line, you need a very high end integrated or seperates. Good luck!
Yamaha and Luxman are both on a other level IMHO. I'm searching to for a Intergrated Amp, and it's so difficult choosing the right one. What do you think about MF MX8i, PS audio or Accuphase?
The Yamaha and the Luxman really look like quality units..inside and out! All the others have long, and even sloppy wire runs? The Yamaha and Luxman get my vote here. I'm actually looking at those two brands, but the higher models each. The A-S3000 and the I-509X.
@@jk25653 Hello Josh. In all honesty, I've been waiting for the Lux 509X price to be reached on the pre-owned market. Which doesn't seem to be happening all too often. (Further Proof it's a keeper) Personally, the Yamaha A-S3000/3200 @ 150 wpc 4 ohm looks better to me, but the Lux @ 220 wpc 4 ohm sound reproduction edges on the superior side. Better bass impact & reach. Wider dynamics too. Startle affect. The impression of compression isn't there on Lux when A-B comparisons between the two. The pre-owned A-S3000 is actual closer to my budget tho. But, I see most Japanese spec versions. I will possibly build around the A-S3000 if my dream boat 509x doesn't dock? Now that McIntosh has strongly entered the fray. Doesn't look like Lux nor Yam will be dropping their prices in the pre-owned markets? Until my dream deal, I'll continue listening through my vintage Sansui AU-D11ii. Which to my taste is one hell of an integrated amp in itself. I've owned BAT, Parasound, & Classé. The Sansui is more musical. That's why I'm looking at $8k list amps!
I think you should consider the Hegel pre and power amp. And also the Hegel integrated amp if you don't mind the built-in dac and streamer. As for phono, why not consider the Schiit Mani? Most of the integrated amp does not have a good phono stage, imo.
I’m not sure I can like their products for 10+ years if they last that long because if I choose an amp I will be using it for very long time that’s why I do not want DAC in my amps, Luxman and top end Denon, Sansui, Marantz, Yamaha comes with better phono stage than many people think and even better MC phono stage.
A lot of manufacturers do charge a premium for less than premium parts and construction techniques. Unfortunately, just because something is well built and looks the part doesn't mean it will sound all that great. Now, Tharbamar will certainly look under the hood but most will not and, quite frankly, they don't care what's under the lid as long as it sounds good to them. But this is a luxury hobby and people get to make their decisions based on whatever criteria they deem important, or don't. Personally, I like the look of the Luxman and the Yamaha. The Parasound and Atoll are well constructed, too. But put all four of them in another room and let a third party switch at random between them and I'm not sure most people could tell the difference. Even if they could they might prefer the sound of one that they wouldn't buy because of some preconceived notion about it that turned out to be much adieu about nothing. Still, they'd refuse to admit they were wrong and settle for lesser sound just to save face. Hey, if the way it's built and the way you want it to sound coincide, fantastic. But to dismiss a product you prefer the sound of because you can't get past the look of parts you'll never see in real usage is a bit odd to me. But again, it's a luxury hobby and it's your money (not you personally Tharbamar) spend it as you see fit.
Agreed and most people (myself included) really don't know what they're looking at inside anyhow. Because it's busier under the hood does that translate to better quality or maybe a less efficient design with more cheap parts? What exactly ARE we looking for inside? lol
I've owned the Musical Fidelity M3si, M5si, M6si The M5si is a great amp. It delivers a very strong tight bass punch. I used it with my B&W 805 D3 and it drove them effortlessly...
It is nice for the price but please keep in mind amplifiers in this price range sound good to certain level of load and loudness, if you push it they will lose their composure, otherwise it should sound great up to 90-95db range with decent load.
I think that in this price range, you should be able to get something without any major drawbacks. It seems the Yamaha and Luxman models only fit the bill. Trust you ears! There is one integrated component I would suggest, the Moon 340i X with the optional phono section. It has a DAC but you don't need to use it. Everytime I hear a Moon component, it impresses me. Hi Tharbamar, I must say I enjoy the content of your channel! I would urge you to consider the fabulous Anthem STR Integrated. 200W @ 8 ohms. It has nice built in dac (which is nicely implemented) and phono stage. Large TFT screen that you can read from across the room at your listening position. Made in Canada. The icing on the cake is that the Anthem Room Correction capability is also included. No need to buy a separate Dirac room correction unit. I like the Anthem STR Integrated better than my Yamaha A-S2000 which is also a nice unit. Stereophile rates it Class A. Other Stereophile Class A integrated amplifiers are in the $12K to $20K price range. This is an excellent unit and could be the last integrated amplifier that you will ever buy. It is that good!

@@Tharbamar,the room correction can be engaged and disengaged "on the fly". I am running my STR without room correction at present. However, my room is "acoustically challenged" and would benefit from room correction. It is a stunning unit even without room correction and I will tell you that it is one of the few purchases in audio for which I have absolutely no buyers remorse. I might be wrong but I don't believe you mentioned the speakers you meant to pair this amplifier with. Synergy between amplifier and transducer is the most important consideration and that is absent from your analysis. I'm also curious why you abandoned the Parasound setup you used years ago because of how it sounded after it left class A but are now considering a bunch of class A/B amps? If you liked Class A sound why not buy higher efficiency speakers and stick with class A amps or even try class A SET or DHT?
Nice lineup, looking forward to your choice. I'm surprised you don't have any Naim products included in there. The XS3 or Supernait 3 which would come in just under 5K. Not 100w/ch but high current and with phono stage (even though you could probably do a lot better with dedicated one).
@@Tharbamar Just out of curiosity I dropped by a local Naim/Yamaha dealer today and compared the XS 3 against the A-S2100. I honestly preferred the XS 3. Among speakers demoed were the 706 S2. I didn't even bother demoing the Supernait 3 as its price suggested it should be paired with much more expensive speakers than the 706 S2s. Of course if you insist on A/V meters, tone controls and the possibility of connection two sets of speakers then the Yamaha would be a better option. I, on the other hand, prefer the tight punchy bass, small form factor and cool operating temperature of the Naim. I already own the XS 2 but am by no means a Naim fanboy and always try to keep an open mind.

The Yamaha is nice. I've heard the Atoll and it was good, too. I might have heard the Rega Elicit R with the wrong speakers, but it sounded thin and lifeless. I don't like Hegel because they are not really upfront about the country of manufacture. Same for Parasound. If you stuff is made in Asia/Taiwan that is perfectly fine. No reason to hide it.
To me Rega Brio-R was great but above that is way over price in my opinion, Atoll can not be audition in my area, I’m going try different options, may be some separates as well, thanks

I'm not sure what the manufacturing country has to do with liking an amp or not, or the brand being explicit about it. Does that affect sound quality? Did you audition any Hegel before?
I did audition most of the amps except Atoll and Aethos. A reputable company should be transparent and clearly says where it was made. As importer my self, by FTC law if any products doesn't say where is made is illegal to sell in the U.S.A. I have nothing against any company, only thing to consider for me which one worth for my hard earn money, thanks
Hegel, designed in Oslo Norway. Made in Taiwan. Not listed on the product itself. Parasound, designed in San Francisco USA. Made in Taiwan. Stated on the back of every piece they sell. Looks do not determine the quality of the sound. System synergy and the room determine the sound quality. Build quality is a different thing. I would not judge a book by its cover. Go listen...
Might want to put the Anthem STR Integrated on your shortlist as well; great specs and sounds fantastic too. It'd be at the high end of your budget, but well worth the price imho.
Good vid, but I wouldn’t discount any based on phono preamp. Most are ok at best and many audiophiles just get external ones. I have that Musical Fidelity and it’s pretty robust and rich sounding.
Thanks for advice, external phono stage I liked is EQ500 which is expensive, same price as Luxman Amp and even used is around $3g, that’s why I’m sticking with internal phono stage for now until I saved up for EQ500, thank you.

I have a Yamaha AX900U amplifier. They were made from 1987 to 1989. A killer vintage amplifier. Plenty of clean power and well built.

The S2100 pairs well with neutral to bright speakers. The phono stage is excellent. You can also run the preamp/power section as separates if you want to pair it with other preamps or power amps to experiment. So it is a separate and an integrated amp. In the end I prefer the Yammy's preamp as an integrated amp. The only addition was a McIntosh MP-100 phono stage, but it took $2k to best the Yammy's phono...

I have the lower priced Yamaha AS1100 and it’s by far the best integrated I’ve owned and I’ve had a lot. It isn’t perfect but it does so many things right. It beats the naim, Rega, Cambridge, and Sony integrateds I’ve tried in that price range. The 2100 would be my pick
I own both Yamaha and Luxman equipment and i have to say the sound from both is first class the Luxman is an older design and only a 50w per ch unit but very good sound for its age and smaller speakers, the Yamaha is a more modern unit 100w per ch a very clean fast sounding unit, the only way to decide is to listen
They each have or had their sound. In the 70s. Lux was flat. Yam was bright went lux and klipsh . Simple

A-S3000 is very nice and great sounding amp for sure but when I saw their separates I was amazed by it and M5000 just won Best Buy Of 2019(High End Category)Award in Japan beating out Accuphase, Luxman and many other high end brands.

I had the Yamaha A-S2100. Very good amp. Detailed sound and one of the best amplifiers I had for tuneful and detailed bass. After two and half years it went into protect mode and had to be sent back to the agent for repair/reset. It seems to be a common problem on the A-S2100 and some have had the "protect" issue even on the flagship A-S3000. Happy now with my 1989 Accuphase P-11 power amp and 1983 Accuphase C-222 preamp. My second system is a Muzishare X-5 EL 34 tube amp. Bang for buck tube amp. Well built too.

Hi, I totally agree with your attitude when it comes to amplifiers build and design. I also prefer japanese solid build, weight, and features. In my country we often say (I am from Poland) that english air (inside amps chassis) is very expensive. It is just a joke about what you get for your money comparing to Japan brands. And another thing - loved your comment about loudness function in Luxman amp. It is so NO - audiophile, but so usefull at evenings ! I had it in my Denon PMA 720 AE and used it often when listening at low volume levels. I have now Yamaha A-S1100 and I am absolutely in love with this beauty (even though it has no loudness:)) It works with Tannoys XT 8F's. Like your channel and wish you all the best (health and HIFI gear) in new year!

I have the Yamaha AS-2100. Beautiful sound. Built with Japanese parts in ASIA. Very reliable...I have over 6000 hours on it. Never had an issue. COST USD is $3500.00 I would consider the Luxman also for $1000.00 dollars more as it is made in Japan and looks solid like my Yamaha. I would have paid more for my Yamaha to have the made in Japan decal. I wonder how these two compare in sound? I can fully recommend the Yamaha. It is truly amazing.

You should do more research about balance inputs. Luxman is only single-ended, not a true balance amp so it will be much better to connect it with RCA inputs for better sound. I have Luxman 509x.
Hmm, the new Yamaha 2200 is $4000. Might as well pay the $500 more and get the Luxman. Probably holds value better.

Heard the Yamaha a-s3000 yesterday at a local shop hooked up to B&Ws 703 S2 floorstanders, found the synergy dynamite, if the a-s2100 is 75% of its big brother it probably would pair well with your B&Ws. Would like to hear Luxman but no one in my city carries the brand that I know of.

I’m powering my Rubicon2 with the As2100. People think I’m using a subwoofer 😂 The amp is a beast. At 9 clock my room starts shaking . Superb performer . The heatsinking system is excelent that never got warm

I would say with Luxman high end JBL standmounts sound incredible like 4349 but KEF reference is also great choice, and Luxman engineers uses JBL as well in their listening room.

I auditioned the Atoll in300 a few days ago with Kef ls50s and Elac vela bs 403..the sound was very clean and refined with very good dynamics and i think its an amazing intergrated amp for the price... I'm looking forward in buying one and pairing it with my kef R3s!!

I've heard a lot of these. I don't think the Marantz is what you are looking for. Upper-end Yamaha is very neutral and pairs well with a lot of speakers. Hegal makes some nice gear, but better gear exists for the money. I heard the Rouge Audio CM3 and it was impressive. I am debating on buying a used one or the newest Gallion tube amp (from Thomas)assuming I can grab a used one for the right price. Never heard anything from Accuphase or mid tier Luxman but I would imagine these are top-tier. The Luxman in particular would be on the shortlist based on everything I have read.
The underrated amps are done so because it's done so at a tolerance. An amp can reach 500 watts while on fire. Another amp like Luxman would rate the same amp at 100 ( at a reliable distortion tolerance)
My list would be
1. Luxman
2. Rogue tube or Gallion tube
3. Mcintosh
4. Yamaha
5. Bryston
There is no underrated amplifier in general but yes many overrated with Dynamic Power at 1Khz especially in entry level range, most reputable brands rated conservatively for power output, power is just numbers what most important for sound quality is power supply.
As of right now I’ll take Muzishare X9 over any on my list or your list for build and sound quantity, thanks

Spend the 1k more and get the McIntosh. or my personal favorite, the Anthem STR, has more feathers more power , measures better and has room correction for bass management. And its cheaper than the Mac. Cruchfied has it at 4999.99.
my 1st choice is Rogue Pharaoh, close 2nd is Parasound Hint 6, third will be Hegel H190 all based on sound, performance, and features.

I’d love to have a Luxman again. Had a pair of M4000As, but they died after 15 years and parts were no longer available for propriety boards. Sounded great until the day they stopped operating. Alpine had ownership of the name by then and no real support could be had. Still sad over that. Since then, Luxman regained control of the name.
BUT, I still have my original Yamaha CR-600 receiver driving my B&W DM4s. Only replaced the lights... twice since 1974! And it is still used daily in my garage/man cave/workshop along with the B&Ws.
I would suggest the Musical Fidelity M6500 which unlike the M6 is a true monoblock. You will need a separate phono stage however.

The updated Yamaha SA series (1200, 2200) have toroidal instead of iron-core transformers. Not sure what else has changed. They are supposed to start shipping in May, 2020. Price has increased about $300.

The Yamaha is being discontinued. Some dealers in UK still have them at reduced price. Some OOS stating new model in April. Grab a bargain or wait for new model. Or save up for a higher grade dual mono amp.

@@classicrock7890 Where did you heard that? I am pretty sure that A-S2100 A-S1100 will not be retired. New high-end models like M-5000 or C-5000 are several level higher than A-S3000 or A-S2100 models. They are priced at USD 13k which is out of reach to most of audiophiles.
The Yamaha AS2100 looks great. I have the RN803 for the bedroom and it sound nice. Had a listen to the new 5000 series and it’s superb. If the AS2100 sits it between it should be a darn great amp to own.

Not sure I agree with your internal observations, but out of that list I wd have the Atoll and Hegel on shortlist. The Atoll is a warmer sound. With the Luxman I wd pay extra for next model up. Also for 5k or just over, you cd buy a Pass XA25 and simple pre amp ie Schiit
Atoll looks great but each of it’s own, I’m not fan of cheap parts in high price amps like Hegel, I’m going to stick with what I think is better quality that last for very long time.

I have the Marantz PM-10 and was unsure about the Class D but after some listening on 3 different speaker manufacturers and speaker types, I enjoy the sound. My main system is McIntosh C47/MC452. I was also looking into the Yamaha S3000 before going with the Marantz.

I don't have the big dollar Yamaha like that. But I've had a few over the years and enjoy my Yamaha amps. They might not have the flashy name of some of the other companies but they seem Rock Solid. That one you're showing look beautiful inside to me the luxman is very nice as well both little out of my price range at this time

I have the Musical Fidelity, the Yamaha, a Luxman 507II and a Marantz KI pearl lite and they are all great.
Also a Nad 3020D and a beautiful McCormack pre-power.
The Luxman has become resident but I will say the Musical Fidelity (Muscular Fidelity) gets a run quite often.
It has a great sound driving my Audio Physic floorstanders.
I love them all but am getting too old to keep switching between amps. Cabling is all Kimber and sources Clearaudio, Oppo, and Bluesound.
PS power cables are Isotek and I sometimes use a Dynaudio subwoofer when listening to Digitally Imported's dub, vocal house, psydub etc.
If you consider Luxman, Accuphase should be in your consideration.
Yamaha as 2100 will retain its value just as it predecessor ca-2010. I really enjoy its natural sound, and its built like a tank at 52 lb.
MOON Neo 340i X also worth considering.
You can't go wrong with Atoll or Hegel. Also you.can consider luxman

Does the atoll have dual torroidal transformers? Holy smokes! Add the Yamaha or Technics SU G700 level meters to that and the search for stereo is over. We're going to compare X, Y, Z receiver to Atoll and before we begin the comparison, Atoll instantly wins because it sounds and looks better. We didn't even have to power on the other receiver :-) It tried its best but failed while in the box.
Hegel are designed in Norway and made in China. They sound good but quality of constraction is not on par with Japanese amps. Dismissing an amplifier just based on the topology used is something i do not recommend, even more so when the amplifier is voiced by KI himself. I had the Yamaha and it is built like a tank. As far as i know Rogue Audio amp is also Class D based on B&O ICE modules while Marantz chose Ncore.

Looking at the internals does not necessarily tell you which sounds better. Only way you can do that is by listening.
Yes and no because if I see it inside I can tell the quality and I can tell who actually make them, I did audition at the show rooms, even traveled to So Cal except for Atoll and Aethos.
Have you ever considered a used hegel integrated? Off-topic, i recently sold my marantz pm8006, it was great for the klipschs rp8000s, but for the bowers wilkins 700 line, you need a very high end integrated or seperates. Good luck!

Hello Josh. In all honesty, I've been waiting for the Lux 509X price to be reached on the pre-owned market. Which doesn't seem to be happening all too often. (Further Proof it's a keeper)
Personally, the Yamaha A-S3000/3200 @ 150 wpc 4 ohm looks better to me, but the Lux @ 220 wpc 4 ohm sound reproduction edges on the superior side. Better bass impact & reach. Wider dynamics too. Startle affect. The impression of compression isn't there on Lux when A-B comparisons between the two.
The pre-owned A-S3000 is actual closer to my budget tho. But, I see most Japanese spec versions.
I will possibly build around the A-S3000 if my dream boat 509x doesn't dock?

Until my dream deal, I'll continue listening through my vintage Sansui AU-D11ii. Which to my taste is one hell of an integrated amp in itself.

I think you should consider the Hegel pre and power amp. And also the Hegel integrated amp if you don't mind the built-in dac and streamer. As for phono, why not consider the Schiit Mani? Most of the integrated amp does not have a good phono stage, imo.
I’m not sure I can like their products for 10+ years if they last that long because if I choose an amp I will be using it for very long time that’s why I do not want DAC in my amps, Luxman and top end Denon, Sansui, Marantz, Yamaha comes with better phono stage than many people think and even better MC phono stage.

A lot of manufacturers do charge a premium for less than premium parts and construction techniques. Unfortunately, just because something is well built and looks the part doesn't mean it will sound all that great. Now, Tharbamar will certainly look under the hood but most will not and, quite frankly, they don't care what's under the lid as long as it sounds good to them. But this is a luxury hobby and people get to make their decisions based on whatever criteria they deem important, or don't. Personally, I like the look of the Luxman and the Yamaha. The Parasound and Atoll are well constructed, too. But put all four of them in another room and let a third party switch at random between them and I'm not sure most people could tell the difference. Even if they could they might prefer the sound of one that they wouldn't buy because of some preconceived notion about it that turned out to be much adieu about nothing. Still, they'd refuse to admit they were wrong and settle for lesser sound just to save face. Hey, if the way it's built and the way you want it to sound coincide, fantastic. But to dismiss a product you prefer the sound of because you can't get past the look of parts you'll never see in real usage is a bit odd to me. But again, it's a luxury hobby and it's your money (not you personally Tharbamar) spend it as you see fit.
Agreed and most people (myself included) really don't know what they're looking at inside anyhow. Because it's busier under the hood does that translate to better quality or maybe a less efficient design with more cheap parts? What exactly ARE we looking for inside? lol

It is nice for the price but please keep in mind amplifiers in this price range sound good to certain level of load and loudness, if you push it they will lose their composure, otherwise it should sound great up to 90-95db range with decent load.

I think that in this price range, you should be able to get something without any major drawbacks. It seems the Yamaha and Luxman models only fit the bill. Trust you ears! There is one integrated component I would suggest, the Moon 340i X with the optional phono section. It has a DAC but you don't need to use it. Everytime I hear a Moon component, it impresses me. Happy shopping!

Hi Tharbamar, I must say I enjoy the content of your channel! I would urge you to consider the fabulous Anthem STR Integrated. 200W @ 8 ohms. It has nice built in dac (which is nicely implemented) and phono stage. Large TFT screen that you can read from across the room at your listening position. Made in Canada. The icing on the cake is that the Anthem Room Correction capability is also included. No need to buy a separate Dirac room correction unit. I like the Anthem STR Integrated better than my Yamaha A-S2000 which is also a nice unit. Stereophile rates it Class A. Other Stereophile Class A integrated amplifiers are in the $12K to $20K price range. This is an excellent unit and could be the last integrated amplifier that you will ever buy. It is that good!

However, my room is "acoustically challenged" and would benefit from room correction. It is a stunning unit even without room correction and I will tell you that it is one of the few purchases in audio for which I have absolutely no buyers remorse. Power is a relative thing, if you have high sensitive speakers, +90db/watt, that power is more than enough.

I might be wrong but I don't believe you mentioned the speakers you meant to pair this amplifier with. Synergy between amplifier and transducer is the most important consideration and that is absent from your analysis. I'm also curious why you abandoned the Parasound setup you used years ago because of how it sounded after it left class A but are now considering a bunch of class A/B amps? If you liked Class A sound why not buy higher efficiency speakers and stick with class A amps or even try class A SET or DHT?

Nice lineup, looking forward to your choice. I'm surprised you don't have any Naim products included in there. The XS3 or Supernait 3 which would come in just under 5K. Not 100w/ch but high current and with phono stage (even though you could probably do a lot better with dedicated one).

@@Tharbamar Just out of curiosity I dropped by a local Naim/Yamaha dealer today and compared the XS 3 against the A-S2100. I honestly preferred the XS 3. Among speakers demoed were the 706 S2. I didn't even bother demoing the Supernait 3 as its price suggested it should be paired with much more expensive speakers than the 706 S2s. Of course if you insist on A/V meters, tone controls and the possibility of connection two sets of speakers then the Yamaha would be a better option. I, on the other hand, prefer the tight punchy bass, small form factor and cool operating temperature of the Naim. I already own the XS 2 but am by no means a Naim fanboy and always try to keep an open mind.

The Yamaha is nice. I've heard the Atoll and it was good, too. I might have heard the Rega Elicit R with the wrong speakers, but it sounded thin and lifeless. I don't like Hegel because they are not really upfront about the country of manufacture. Same for Parasound. If you stuff is made in Asia/Taiwan that is perfectly fine. No reason to hide it.
To me Rega Brio-R was great but above that is way over price in my opinion, Atoll can not be audition in my area, I’m going try different options, may be some separates as well, thanks
@@Tharbamar I am fortunate to live in the French part of Canada. Atoll is everywhere here. I am very impressed by the look of the Luxman. The interior looks like quality. Have you auditioned any McIntosh products?
I'm not sure what the manufacturing country has to do with liking an amp or not, or the brand being explicit about it. Does that affect sound quality? Did you audition any Hegel before?
I did audition most of the amps except Atoll and Aethos.
A reputable company should be transparent and clearly says where it was made. As importer my self, by FTC law if any products doesn't say where is made is illegal to sell in the U.S.A. I have nothing against any company, only thing to consider for me which one worth for my hard earn money, thanks
Hegel, designed in Oslo Norway. Made in Taiwan. Not listed on the product itself. Parasound, designed in San Francisco USA. Made in Taiwan. Stated on the back of every piece they sell. Looks do not determine the quality of the sound. System synergy and the room determine the sound quality. Build quality is a different thing. I would not judge a book by its cover. Go listen...
Also consider Musical Fidelity M6si, Rogue Audio Pharaoh, Rega Aethos, McIntosh MA252, and the Pathos Logos mkII. All great amps.

Might want to put the Anthem STR Integrated on your shortlist as well; great specs and sounds fantastic too. It'd be at the high end of your budget, but well worth the price imho.

Good vid, but I wouldn’t discount any based on phono preamp. Most are ok at best and many audiophiles just get external ones. I have that Musical Fidelity and it’s pretty robust and rich sounding.
Thanks for advice, external phono stage I liked is EQ500 which is expensive, same price as Luxman Amp and even used is around $3g, that’s why I’m sticking with internal phono stage for now until I saved up for EQ500, thank you.
