    Another great video, but I actually have a NewEra question:
    I recently bought two different minor league team hats in the same size, but I could tell immediately that they fit very differently on my head despite both of them being made in Taiwan. I'm not sure if it's the size of the front design that caused this or if they simply need to be reshaped. Have you had any experience with this? Is this nothing to worry about after shaping the cap, or is this a more serious shaping/quality control issue?
    Thanks!

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  4 роки тому +2

      I think you've just experienced the normal variation that New Era has in their caps - happens all the time. I am a 7-1/2, but I own more than a few 7-3/8 and 7-5/8 caps - just because those fit better when I tried them on. So I'd say nothing serious, just something us cap fans have to deal with... definitely invest in a hat jack if you need to give them a stretch, thanks.

      Yes, they are cool but when I made this they were sort of a dying breed... I think '47 has elected to focus on fitted caps with their Franchise model, which is a stretch fitted in five sizes only. NHL fitted caps are made by Fanatics now, I reviewed one in a separate video, thanks.

    I’ve pretty much quit buying new era fitteds now cause the quality has taken a pretty deep decline from the USA days so it would be interesting to check one of these out if I see any at a lids. But I’ve never been a huge fan of acrylic hats, not the most comfortable material and they are on the warmer side for summers.

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  4 роки тому

      Since posting this I actually picked up a couple more, and they were actually better than this one - the construction and sweatband in particular are very well done. Thanks for the comments, I agree that the acrylic makes this not a good choice for summer.

    I'm a loyal N.E. consumer , have been since the 90s . That being said though I've eyeballed a couple 47 brand hats and can't lie they have some good looking hats . How do you feel about Mitchell and Ness ?

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  2 роки тому +1

      Great question, as I've finally started to look at M&N - don't always see their Fitteds in large numbers or teams, but I've been looking at some of their retro NBA snaps lately. The one thing I've heard repeatedly is that the visors are thick and more difficult to curve if that is your preference. I've actually become a much bigger fan of 47 even since I posted this, the quality of their caps is very good, especially the adjustable 'MVP' style that I've tried lately.

    Hey Doug. Great content as always. I have a question. I measure my head and according to the measurement, I should wear a 7 3/8. Of the rack, it felt ok. The thing is, I always bend my brim and as soon as I did that, the hat suddenly felt too loose. I bought another hat, this time I got a 7 1/4. I bend the brim, and this time it felt a bit too tight. Whats your recommendation ? Are 5950 hat designed to be rather 'loose' or should I get one that fit rather snug. Thanks

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  4 роки тому

      First thing to note is that NE Caps have tons of variation from the way they are made - I am a 7-1/2 but own a few 7-3/8 and 7-5/8 caps because they were a better fit at the store. Second, if you curve your visors normally, you've got to account for what it does to the cap shape - I actually looked at that in my video 'Why so much Shrinking?', so I'd suggest going to check that out at my channel. As you've described, it will influence what size caps you buy regularly - thanks.

    Finally found a 47 fitted. Really agree with you. They are much better than people think. Have a handful of their snapbacks, but this is my first fitted from them. REALLY wish they would get back into the fitteds. Found the fitted in my local NHL team. Had a few styles for then actually. Unfortunately, none for MLB. I wonder if this is because New Era now has some sort of exclusivity for MLB fitteds?
    Thanks for your channel Doug!

      Good find... they seem to have all but disappeared in most places I look. But I mentioned in another vid that '47 actually makes the single most comfortable Fitted I own - a two-tone Pirates cap. Yes, seems that maybe they can't license current MLB for anything but stretch fitteds (Franchise model) - because '47 has done mostly Cooperstown logos on these recent fitted caps. Thanks!

    47's crowns are ginourmous on my head, so is NE, but the low profile ones are a great for me... So question, brother... You know if these 47's shrink at all, like the NE caps? Shrinking as in shrinking them with intent.

      Yes, they will respond in a similar way to NE caps... wool ones will shrink easier and more than poly. Although 47 does use 15% acrylic in some of their wool caps, thanks.

    Uhm, am I missing something? You say you steamed the visor to get it to bend easier because of the fabric? Isn’t there plastic inside that visor? Plus, I would never buy a 47 brand hat if I was into the flat brimmed new era hats. That is not the type of hat that 47 brand specializes in. They make the best franchise, which is their regular fitted hat, any other brand. Including new era. So, this is like comparing apples to oranges. But, I guess they’re trying to compete in that category. And, from what you said, they’re just a few tweaks behind. Good video. Also, with the 47 brand visors, you have to break them in. You will not bend it once and get it to stay. I buy the franchise fitted 47 brand hats. I like a big curve in my brim. It’s a process. I can tell you this, once you get it to where you like it and it stays, it will stay that way forever. Also, that visor will last forever. The material will fall off it before the shape of the brim changes. That’s one of the things that I love with the 47 brand hats. And, if I’m looking for comfort, those flat brimmed New Era hats are not the ones I’d wear for “comfort.” Those things are about as uncomfortable as a hat can get. But, to each their own. I just found it odd that you were talking about comfort with a hat like that. Try buying a 47 brand cleanup or franchise fitted hat and you will be able to feel the comfort you are missing.

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  2 роки тому

      Yes, I think you are missing a few things. This was only a review of 47 Fitted vs. New Era 59Fifty... and if you've seen any other of my videos you would know I have a preference for curving the visor, although that is a personal style choice and some prefer to leave them flat. Steam provides two functions... 1) the heat makes the visor more formable and prevents fatigue from cold bending and 2) the moisture relaxes the fabric, in the same way a tailor or cleaner uses steam to smooth out fabrics. I've done a video on the materials used in major manufacturers' visors ( ua-cam.com/video/wD2jpl_fNUA/v-deo.html ) and yes, 47 Brand uses plastic in their visors, which softens at a higher temperature than the fiber/plastic blend that New Era uses. Also, I don't consider the Franchise or the 39Thirty to be true Fitted caps, because they are stretch-fit construction and I can't buy either one in a dedicated size 7-1/2. I've found that the severe curvature on some visors with those caps actually hurts my temples, and I've had to relax the curves on occasion ( ua-cam.com/video/2l07U7Qb32Q/v-deo.html ) The Cleanup has an unstructured crown, dad cap silhouette, and is not something I've been interested in to date. Last, I think that 59Fifty and other Fitted caps can be quite comfortable, and I did a review of some of the factors involved here - ua-cam.com/video/1vpa5NZ0G_E/v-deo.html As you say, "to each their own," thanks.

      @@dreinthe616 It’s funny because I almost explained the whole thing about the Franchise coming in S M L XL, but I didn’t think I needed to, since I believed you would know what I was talking about. They are not a true fitted cap. But, you can get them to become a fitted cap. It just takes a little work. The Clean up is close to being the same hat as the franchise. The material is a little softer, but, in the end, they end up being the same hat after they’re broken in. If you were to check up on the cleanup, you would understand what I am talking about. And, it doesn’t really bother me if it’s a true fitted cap. If it fits me and I like it and it’s fitted (either a stretch fit or a true fitted cap) it’s just fine for me. Like I said, to each their own. Also, I don’t mind bending my visor until it stays. It just takes some time. Maybe a week? Maybe less. I’m just a big fan of the 47 Brand. I haven’t found another brand that comes close for my taste. It’s all about preference and taste. I didn’t even know that the 47 brand made those fitted caps until I saw your video. It’s funny because you actually have to search for them on their website. They do not just pop up with the team that you punch in.
