    With 103 having been scrapped this is now the last surviving 141, it is a shame there are no examples of Leyland TL11s left in preserved DMUs or even preserved buses.

      huh no, 141108 is still in preservation, as are 140001 and single-car RB004, all with Leyland TL11 engines and SCG gearboxes.

    I can’t believe the 141 is still in use.

      It isn't, not on the NR network. Only Private lines run the two remaining.

    It's a recycled freight truck undercarriage with a plastic bus chassis and souped-up lawnmower engines.

      It's not plastic mate thats modern rubbish!

      I wouldn't mind a lawnmower with a 10 Litre engine

    • @darylyatestransportblogs

      The engine was used in trucks not just buses albeit with more power, there is a video on here of an ERF with an L10 that has a straight pipe that sounds exactly like a Pacer with a blowing exhaust 141113 was the first to be refitted with the Cummins L10 & Voith gearbox which eventually found their way onto all the 142,143 & 144s.

    Only recently saw one for the first time at Manchester Piccadilly. I just feel for the commuters there. It is a Leyland National bus on rails 🤣🤣🤣

      Garthe Knight all 141s were withdrawn from National Rail / British Rail in 1997... It would've been a 142 you saw most likely.

    • @guitarplayerforu

      They have served us well here in the north west but their time is up now as they're not really meant for long commutes like they're now used on and dont have enough seating. We're thankful the pacer saved our railways that wouldn't have survived without them. I do hope some are kept running on heritage railways though, they're unique things are pacers.The ones i know well are the Class 142's. i will miss the sound of that 10 litre 6 cylinder cummins diesel though when they get retired by 31st december 2019. Who'd have thought a train based on the leyland national, designed as a temporary stopgap would still be running 30 odd years after being built, that's british engineering for you, it's rare these days.

    I know the Cummings units were better in almost every way but I sure miss the sound of the original Leyland engines with the self changing gears.

    • @HORNEBEEDUBLO
      @HORNEBEEDUBLO 7 років тому

      Same here. The Leyland TL11 engines were ok on buses and coaches, but they didn't work on trains, as the long idling times caused carbon deposits to build up and melt the pistons. The new Class 195s will have mechanical ZF six speed epicyclic gearboxes. They are similar in concept to the SCG gearbox, but I doubt that they will have made the mistake of putting the forward/reverse gear on the input side of the gearbox, as SCG did with the Pacer R500 gearbox.

      Aventanario 141113 is the only 141 that was fitted with the same Cummins engines and Voith hydraulic transmissions as the 142/3/4s; and the only other 141 still running besides this one is 141108 on the Colne Valley Railway; watch a video of that to hear the original Leyland engines and SCG gearboxes that all Pacers originally had
