  • This is the longest Vlogbrothers video, I think, and definitely the one with the most curse words. BUT THIS IS THE TRADITION THAT WAS ESTABLISHED!
In which Hank reads the first chapter of his new book (and first book) about April May, who meets a bizarre robot sculpture in Manhattan on the way home from her terrible user interface design job.

My favourite part of this video is just hank going "if not GO AWAY". That level of confidence in this video is kind of amazing. Like, the usual thing is to say "stay for the whole video, like comment and subscribe!" and hank just does the exact opposite and I find that pretty funny.

    Damn you Hank!
It's been half a day since I acquired your book and it's now 6:40 AM. I have to work in under 2 hours, but what I don't have, is slept. But curiously, I don't feel tired at all.
Because I've just been on a heck of an adventure.
    Therefore; Thank you Hank!
It's been so long that I don't even remember when (no wait, it was TATWD) since I last had this enthralling of an experience with a book.
I, and I dare say many others, are grateful for all the trouble you went through and the amounts of work you put in.
I remember you saying "I don't want to write a book, I want people to read a book that I wrote."
We have Hank. And you did good.

I didn't expected this book to resonate with me this much. Don't get me wrong, I was interested in it when I found out you're writing a book, but I was too busy with my life, to get exited about it. But when I saw the notification pop up while I was, as you put it so well, pixel pushing I clicked on it, because what's better then procrastinating. So the video started, and you began to read the book within it. Right after the second sentence I had to pause, as I did a few more times till I got to the part when you close the book, and in those pauses I contemplated my past, present and the different possible ways of future relationship with art, the meaning of art, the purpose of art and last but not least how much, just the first chapter effected me.
Now, here I am, almost two hours later, have been ordered An Absolutely Remarkable Thing, and writing this comment, for what? I don't know, maybe just to let you know you had a bigger than ever before impact on me.

I like how AARM takes the time to develop character when we're living in a world that demands action from the very start.

Funnily, when I first read the book I had a VERY difficult time not hearing it read in your voice Hank. Very hard. I think I’ll do the audiobook now so I can hear Kristen’s voice.
I gave you the bowl for your son in Denver. I forgot to tell you that it’s dishwasher safe and that it will break and that’s ok. I’ve not heard of a child hurting themselves, because it usually falls from where they are to the floor. It was nice meeting you!

Omg the way the book has been written and the way you read it... Hank hats exactly the kinda things I can actually hear think/say... that book is definitely yours🤩
Just so amazing that your view is this unique... everyone’s views are unique, sure, but the thing is, the way to express that uniqueness... that takes immense bravery and talent. Bravery because those thoughts of yours on a screen or on a piece of paper are cool sure but the fear of other people reading what have for long been passing clouds in the vast plains of your mind... you are brave to have sat down and finished your book and I am just so proud of where you guys have come today....

So I’m sitting here starring out my window taking drags and filling the air in front of me with smoke. Your words echo from my phone and you take me out of this horrid semester for 19 minutes and 54 seconds. You bring me somewhere and to a place where I can’t see the smoke, where I’m in New York and I’m watching this girl prep for a seemingly meaningless interview with a friend. Your story has uprooted me from what is around and transported me to what is, or possibly was a destination or memory within you. Thank you for creating this video, for creating this story, and for creating this vlog that takes me on a journey. Hank, for as much as any digital comment means, I thank you, truly.

Sooooo, I pre-ordered this book. I have never pre-ordered a book before, but I wanted support you and the channel. I actually pre-ordered the audible book, which is the point of this post. If you love the book, get the audible. The reading is incredibly awesome! I swear, you will love it!

Wow! I was expecting this to be fun, and well-written after everything I'd heard, but I wasn't expecting something so interior and beautifully scripted to introduce us to your characters without making it feel like we are breaking from the experience to get back-story. Very well done, I'll try and pick up my copy this weekend!

Wow! I haven’t had a chance to read my copy of AART yet because, like April, I’m in college studying art (actually art history but close enough) and I’m honestly so moved and excited, you’ve left me with a feeling that I haven’t gotten from a book in a while. I can’t wait to get a chance to read it! Amazing work Hank, DFTBA

"You are a digital girl, April, in a digital world".
Is anyone else having flashbacks of Hank having his hair in pigtails and singing "I'm a world wide web girl, in a world wide web world etc." as a punishment way back in the day? :D

I read the book, and before I finished, it was obvious to me that English teachers will be assigning this book to their students. There are THEMES to explore here in a way few novels really bother with. Any post-2015 American can relate to some of the major struggles Hank discusses. Very few books inspire an evangelical zeal in me, but this one was immediately recommended to all my friends and an entire college English department. I bought a second copy to share. This book is something special, Hank. It honestly is a truly remarkable thing.
