Poor suffering donkey. It needs a vet, painkillers and a farrier. This treatment is so rough I can't watch. I know you are doing the best with what you have but that poor suffering little donkey breaks my heart.

The older treatments still work. They do have to open it up to release the pus and infection and ri se it out or it cannot heal. It is hard for the donkey and everyone to look at it. It should heal though. There was no chance without this treatment.
My guess is that the majority of these animals are destined for human consumption. Not a lot of attention paid to their health and integrity. This farrier does just enough to keep them mobile. None of them will see a vet. Ever.

Except for the leg this donkey was one of the cleanest and well groomed donkeys ive seen on one of these videos...make you wonder why was the leg so bad when it seemed looked after...

In horses use of a nose twitch properly actually releases endorphins which helps calm them. With donkeys its not known what hormone is released into their system yet but there was a 2009 study done by H. Vreeman that verified there is some form of hormone released and the donkeys do indeed temporarily calm down when using a nose twitch. If you look up 'The effectiveness of the twitch in donkeys by H Vreeman 2009' you should be able to find the PDF document from the study done. It's still not recommended to use a twitch for a long time though, most often not past 5 minutes, and to use them properly.
That's not the way it is done in America. After the infection is rinsed, antibiotic is administered. A sterilized wrap is put on. Then, a lift is glued to it where there no damage. The animal doesn't have a person pounding on the hoof with a nail and hammer 😳

This mistreatment has to stop. I appreciate treatment must be given, but surely there is some anaesthesia they could give this poor animal. Could you imagine this treatment on your own injured foot without any kind of pain relief No!!! This is what this animal is going through and on top of this the twisting of the nose and tying up of the leg. There has to be an alternative.

Why do you not first and foremost scrub the entire hoof with a scrub brush and antiseptic soap and very warm water. The amount of barn floor waste left on this poor guys hoof is unacceptable. That entire hoof from the 1st joint down should be wrapped as to not allow any bacteria on/in the hoof.
I usually don't criticize the treatment given to these donkeys, because I know that people like Master Du don't always have access to the tools and techniques that we do in the Western world But the lack of sanitary measures and the rough treatment of an animal who is obviously in a great deal of pain made me cringe. This animal needs a vet, and although that may not be possible, I wish that measures were taken to reduce the risk of further infection, and that they treated the poor little soul with a little more compassion. I know that the safety of the farrier is a consideration, but twisting it's nose AND an ear in addition to digging at the hoof with what appeared to be a rusty, or if not rusty, at least dirty instrument just blew me away, and not in a good sense. But I am trying to understand what the reality of these people is in regards to access and knowledge of better methods of helping this donkey. I imagine I'm going to have the image of this poor animal in my head for quite a while.
Someone should show Master Du some of The Hoof GPs videos...i`m not saying Du could trim the same but it might give him a few ideas he could adapt to his style of trimming...
I am a farrier and watch the Hoof GP also. This is an abcess. My God someone send this "master " a frickin' hoof knife!!! Jamming the ends of the scissors up into the hoof made me cringe. At least the abcess was opened so the puss and pressure could be relieved but the chance of making infection worse is there too with that long needle going too far into the hoof, among other things shown. I will be more impressed if they show a follow-up video. Amd the nail through the toe for the leather pad... omg 😐

Why did he put the nail in the hoof where the problem was? Why not put them only where the hoof is still intact and the hoof wall is solid? That was very painful. Please consider some sort of pain medicine for animals suffering that badly. I hope he makes a full recovery. I'd love to see follow up videos of his progress.

I have so many questions. How long does it take to get that rotten? Didn't they know he was suffering? Why hammer a nail in the wound? Couldn't it of been glued on like they do with cows? Why couldn't the master go to the animal instead of making the animal suffer and walk to him. And lastly why couldn't they put him under so he didn't go through all that pain? He wouldn't have access to this, but regional anaesthesia of the foot (lidocaine) and xylazine for general anaesthesia would have improved this drastically.
Some pain management would’ve been helpful to this girl. It’s great that he can treat her by cleaning and giving her cotton stuffed in the hole with peroxide and whatever else he’s using but hey it’s more than what was happening. I wish a speedy recovery and would b nice to see the treatment has worked.

The Hoof GP does cow feet. Donkey feet are night and day different in anatomy as well as treatment.

Why did he put the nail in the hoof where the problem was? Why not put them only where the hoof is still intact and the hoof wall is solid? That was very painful. Please consider some sort of pain medicine for animals suffering that badly.

I have so many questions. How long does it take to get that rotten? Didn't they know he was suffering? Why hammer a nail in the wound? Couldn't it of been glued on like they do with cows? Why couldn't the master go to the animal instead of making the animal suffer and walk to him. And lastly why couldn't they put him under so he didn't go through all that pain? Rotten hoove, nose screwed to pole and leg tied up and being dug into. I'm suprised that animal didn't collapse from the pain. So disheartening. 😥

He wouldn't have access to this, but regional anaesthesia of the foot (lidocaine) and xylazine for general anaesthesia would have improved this drastically.

Some pain management would’ve been helpful to this girl. It’s great that he can treat her by cleaning and giving her cotton stuffed in the hole with peroxide and whatever else he’s using but hey it’s more than what was happening. I wish a speedy recovery and would b nice to see the treatment has worked.
