I didn't think the "intro" was cheesy at all. For me it simply confirmed that this was the right playthrough for me out of 500 other ones.
I agree tbh. I really appreciate how ChristopherOdd does his let's plays, he takes his time and properly explores the environment, and invests himself into the world and story of games like this. So many UA-camrs try to go too quickly IMO, I prefer the ones who play at their own pace.

When I started this game and Munshi said Simon's birthday was July 16, 1988, my head went spinning. That's MY birthday. I thought they managed to get that info somehow, from my Steam account or something. The game was screwing with me before it even started.

"Game ends with a surprise.". The weird thing is, by the time you reach the end, you probably won't be surprised anymore.
I went all over the internet looking to get my SOMA fix but I ended up coming back here. This is the best SOMA playthrough on the internet. Everyone else misses the important details that you get. It really builds the story.

Even though it's a minor spoiler, I really hate it when subtitles reveal characters' names before they've introduced themselves (or before player has learned them some other way).

I don't know why I freaked out at the mention of Bloor St. and Spadina, but that was awesome lol. I guess it's just that there aren't exactly too many games/books/t.v shows that take place in Toronto and use the real street names, or at least, I don't know many of them.

I may be 9 years late to the party, but as a Torontonian, I can attest that that subway train interior is very TTC.
That intro is exactly why I love Horror games, or SF in general. They post some question nobody have ever think about and give their own answer throughout the experience, which is by no means the true answer and leave the players more to explore on their own. And the topic of this game is one of my favourite.
Frictional Games never disappoints, when it comes to setting a mood for suspense.
What could be simply better this year than watching a walkthrough from the favourite sneak-master letsplayer?

What do u mean by 'connects with me'? Please tell more. I can't stop thinking about this game and its plot... Frictional Games made a HUGE step forward in making games and plots. This is just crazy but I think this is one of the very few best games I was ever able to play. I'm a gamer since 1997 and I first time cried playing this game, I mean the ending. And still, I can't stop thinking, these guys are amazing...
In the first 10 sec, for me, this became the best SOMA walkthrough on the youtube!

Saw clips of your playthrough in the old video by Mauler, it was his praise of the game that got me to play it and now I'm at the end of this first episode and am looking forward to watching the rest! That arm when you open the room with the robots is one of Frictional's little moments of horror brilliance. It really is the small, subtle things that make them such good horror games.
Re-watching this for fun. Such a well made game. Games like this and The Talos Principle are my jam.

Seems like you have the right approach to this game, a thougthfull and curios mind, was affraid that let's players would think this would be some "peek a boo" haunted house type of deal (kinda like Frictionals other game Amnesia) and just rush trough the story and not think about the themes and idéas.

Someone from Cyberpunk suggested this, here is Mystic now! Am somewhat intrigued, though was a bit spoiled already. Either way, am staying just to see if the narrative holds up to what that commentator from the other video said!

When I read the note for the door code, I thought it was 2507 instead of 2501, because it was connected to the zero. I spent 30 minutes in that stupid lobby before finally looking up the code. All because of bad handwriting.
Wow Chris I gotta hand it to ya, I'm 3 years late to this series because I still don't own the game (more interested in watching rather than playing it myself) and every let's play I've tried to watch has been too loud, annoying, missed too many details, didn't pay attention to the notes or dialogue, etc so it was impossible for me to follow the story and I gave up. Now that I've discovered your channel and have watched a few of your series, I decided to give this one a try. FINALLY someone I'll be able to watch from beginning to end!!! Your intro immediately got my full interest, especially since I'm fascinated by the concept of consciousness, being narcoleptic and having struggled with dissociative episodes since childhood. Okay that's enough rambling, time to unpause the video and get back into it! ;)

The view out the apartment window reminded me of the view from the window in Silent Hill 4: The Room. Similar looking. And that thing at 40:14 sounded freaky as hell.
It's so cool they have T.O streets and other hints. I don't think I've ever played a game with a Canadian context. Loving the atmosphere so far!

I love the vibe tjis game gives off. It's like the first "Amnesia," mixed with the sci-fi backdrop of "Alien: Isolation," with a dash of oldschool, philosophical science fiction a la Philip K. Dick, not to mention the H.R. Giger-esque biomechanical-looking weirdness.
So I just started watching this, and I don't know if this was implied, but the door code: "2501" may have been a reference to "Project 2501" from the manga/anime "Ghost in the Shell" where an AI that has been created in a laboratory by a bureau within the Japanese government becomes sentient. The AI then goes rogue and starts inhabiting the robotic bodies (or "shells") of other sentient AIs in order to seek asylum, preserve itself and to pass on it's code as any other biological creature would. Your asking questions of your audience as to our thoughts on consciousness, to set the vibe, led me to think that perhaps the "2501" may indeed be a reference to Ghost in the Shell. Though I am not certain of the implications as I know nothing about this game I shall see if my assumptions strike true as I watch your play-through.

+Mark Callaghan Yep - although with I slight correction; Soma is willingly consumed by the populace as opposed to forced upon/given to the populace by the government. It is "the perfect drug" - a kind of combination of marijuana, alcohol, LSD and Heroin without any of the negative side-effects. This, combined with the removal of high culture e.g. literature, art, etc, and things such as emotion, family, friendship, dreams, love and critical thinking being frowned upon and systematically removed via childhood indoctrination combined with a constant promotion of consumerism and ephemeral distractions, creates a society of utter leisure; a twisted utopia without a soul.

My idea for consciousness: consciousness for me is the ability to act upon past experiences. A tree can not act as it is relatively stationary and it has no ability to act upon experiences. A dog learns quickly that a rolled up newspaper means they will be smacked when they do something bad (paper training is a chore). Without the ability to learn and act I don't believe consciousness can develop.

+narc0manic It's almost certainly a reference to GitS. After all, the film was all about uncertainty of what it means to be a human, and the Puppetmaster, aka Project 2501, is an emergent mechanical lifeform.

For a second when I heard " Let me ask you this... " i heard " Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? " afterwards... because well, ocean and this takes place under the ocean.
