In 1941, Nazi Germany seized Ukrainian lands. The occupiers began mass arrests and executions of Ukrainian activists. The Germans organized the deportation of the population to forced labor in Germany. People escaped by fleeing to the forest. The first insurgent units began to operate. In two years, the Ukrainians organized an insurgent army capable of conducting large-scale military operations on two fronts - against the Germans and the Bolsheviks.
The oral history reveals an unconventional view of the nature of the UPA struggle, letting the viewer feel the atmosphere and spirit of the age while submerging into the whirlpool of turbulent events.

We interviewed over 100 eyewitnesses, and we worked closely with historians. The project lasted almost three years.
@Samuel Cleife You missed how Russia had a SS division called “ROA”. Not to mention the USSR itself wanted to be allies with the nazis but the nazis didn’t.
@Samuel Cleife You missed the point that this focuses on the OUN-UPA and nothing else.
it's absolutely fantastic.
@@IAmAwesomeSoAreYou Russian Liberation Army wasn't an SS unit. It was effectively a corps under general Wehrmacht command.
This is a really good documentary, i never knew that the Ukrainian resistance had this level of organisation and such interesting history. You did a really good job with this, i hope you'll keep up the good work.
mostly lies Neo fascist propaganda from west ukraine
@@louisecorchevolle9241 Are you saying Ukrainians did not put up a resistance because you have evidence for your statement, or because you make anti-Ukrainian comments because you are a propagandist?
@@catnap387 He’s just French.
@@louisecorchevolle9241 Why?
Outstanding film production. Provides a wealth of numbers and dates. Every school should see it.

And same people who committed Valyn Massacre!!!
Maybe you will learn Ukrainian or Polish language first, bot?
Crazy how there's absolutely no mention of that here.
everyone committed war crimes in WWII . These people were consumed by hatred against everyone east and the west at the time. what can any expect from them ?
If mass rapes in Berlin by red army was justified because Germany invaded USSR so can be Wolyn
@@copperlemon1 because they want them to look like heros. To glorify ukrainian nationalists. Like it is not evil.
@@copperlemon1 Yup, this documentary is interesting, but it's clearly biased to a Ukrainian nationalist perspective!
Liberating a country from Nazis
Allies:: here you go now you can build your country back.
USSR: it’s free real estate.
If the western allies had any interest in the integrity of these nations they would have made good on the obligation made to Poland. They just wanted to force a war to begin with.
One subject this documentary does not cover is clashes between UPA and Soviet Partisans that operated in Galicia. Moscow knew about UPA before 1944 when Soviet Partisans included UPA in there intelligence and battle reports.
trying to find a third way between a rock and a hard place... dreadful times, I hope we never see the like again.
hrmmmnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Vikings done the same thing.
Doesn't this documentary kind of require some knowledge of Ukrainian history already: for example when the first interviewee at the start says "the organization has split", how would someone without such knowledge know she's referring to the OUN?
Now Russia tries to conquer Ukraine. Putler's attempts will be futile! Slava Ukraini! Geroyam Slava!

Dumb tankie. Did you forget how the Soviets wanted to be allies with the nazis but Hitler betrayed them?? 🤣🤣 you are so brainwashed. The ussr was the same as nazis.
@@IAmAwesomeSoAreYou lol no,
The USSR did not want to be an ally of Germany, the Molotov Ribbentrop Pact was about not attacking, not about alliance, the USSR invaded Poland with Germany to return the lost lands to the Ukrainian and Belarusian republics, the winter war of 1939 was to strengthen the USSR border before attack by Germany, the USSR conducted propaganda against Nazis even before its invasion of the USSR, even in the Soviet propaganda of the 30s you can see swastikas.
USSR and Germany was same ?,Nazis wanted to kill all jews and slavs and rule the world,USSR wanted to spread communistic ideas on Europe.
@@cobrageneral556 the traitors were the once who fought for USSR the real Ukrainians fought for there own Countries freedom
