Freddie Gibbs is one of the best alive right now. You would enjoy Piñata despite it being a bit long. It explores his life living that real gangster lifestyle making his money through selling drugs. I’d go as far as to say this is one of the best rap albums I’ve ever heard
Joel Ortiz talks about being a better father to his children now that he's established and they're older in the Monday album. The song is called "Learn You Now"
if you are looking for artists that are very well versed in covering both sides of drug dealing, i would definitely recommend UGK/Bun B. Bun B is also a collegiate educator on the subject at Rice (hip-hop/religion course). Ice-T covers a lot of this in his earlier work, and as you have a great understanding of Melle Mel and 'the message' i believe that earlier Ice-T, and Bun B will be a great start, and also assume from some other reviews that you have listened to some of their albums. I look forward to your other reviews, and seeing what artists you bring in that you have listened to (i can tell you have a great back catalogue to refer to) and the newer artists/styles and how they fit with the curriculum and your reviews.
Skye if you wanna hear more socially conscious Gibbs I would recommend his whole discography! hhaha ! I know that really does not narrow it down, but I think the beauty of Gibbs is that he will show as much gangster bravado as possible then when you least expect it he will hit you with some introspective tragedy or prominent political message. I suppose the best examples are "Cataracts" and "Fake Names" both off Bandana. Congrats on the Hip Hop Minor!
Check out Dr. Michael Eric Dyson if you havent already. He has written books and taught classes on Hip-Hop. He has a panel discussion with Nas available on youtube as well a book written about Nas and his contribution to the culture.
You should definitely check out You Only Live 2wice. Main theme is the juxtaposition of selling coke In America to eventually being wrongfully charged and arrested for a sex crime in Europe
Alchemist +Freddie Gibbs =alfredo
Please don't stop reviewing. Your take on hip hop is very refreshing.
I won’t stop!
You’re one of the best reviewers today. I’m glad I found your channel, and just keep up the good work!
10/10
Thanks!

Freddie Gibbs is the best rapper doing it right now. You should give Bandana a listen. Amazing record, one of my favorites from Freddie. Great review!
Joel Ortiz talks about being a better father to his children now that he's established and they're older in the Monday album. The song is called "Learn You Now"

The Godfather-like album art is definitely intentional.

Love your more recent reviews but Benny's verse definitely makes sense. You're just out of your element here.

Love this review! I would love to see a review of Agnes Obel’s new album ‘Myopia’
I think its called alfredo because al for alchemist and fredo for freddi
Freddie was an RnB artist first, but got on with rap. He's been noted saying that he will go back to RnB since he's a name now
You should definitely check out You Only Live 2wice. Main theme is the juxtaposition of selling coke In America to eventually being wrongfully charged and arrested for a sex crime in Europe

Rodeo By Travis Scott has a lot of guitar. More than this album that’s for sure. If you haven’t check it out. It’s the best trap album ever imo.
