An extreme majority of crimes like these occur at the hands of someone that has been let off before. The justice system is a pitiful excuse for a system.
I don’t understand how insanity is a pass to kill . Go to jail n get treatment from there . Wtf . Horrible decision . Cmon ppl . Common sense . He was eating someone’s face . Jesus
Sometimes it’s hard for people to find closure when their are people killed and the perpetrator doesn’t go to prison we as a society struggle with the idea that sometimes people who do terrible things aren’t responsible for their actions because of being insane and feel as thought no one is held accountable if no one does prison time. But the truth is he could actually end up in that mental institution longer than he may have if he was convicted of manslaughter or 2nd degree murder
I agree. This man was using a zombie drug, and killed people. Made him overly strong. And had been doing the drug for a few weeks. That isn’t insanity. I don’t get it. He should be put down like a animal. Everyone is crazy till they behind bars with people. Now they know how to act until trail 😂 just imagine a black guy doing this. Treat it the same way.
He should never be released! What if he has another “acute psychotic episode” again!?! To those who want this man released, let him live next to your family! Not ours!!
Even if he were to be released, he would have to be under VERY heavy surveillance by police, doctors, and others so something like this never happens again. But what I also don't get is why his family didn't even bother taking him to a psych ward or a mental facility if they knew he was under heavy drug use
People want someone to blame or have an eye for an eye but sometimes life sadly isn’t fair and you have to have compassion in situations where it’s really hard to. Austin had a psychotic break down and did this. He shouldn’t be allowed out in the real world but he also shouldn’t be put to death.
This very strong woman did her best to show the texts that Harrouff use to send about his drugs abuse but the mental insanity report prevailed because he had in the system just a tiny quantity of THC at the moment he snapped, but during the attack he injested some kind of chimical liquid that almost killed him, i WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THAT TOXIC LIQUID COULD HAVE REDUCED OR CANCELLED TRACES OF OTHER DRUGS, I'm asking, can this be possible?
What happens when he is released?!? We all know he will be in 7-10 years time! Some bleeding heart liberal will release him. What’s to stop him from having another “acute psychotic episode” when he’s set free!?! The public’s safety should come first!
Times are changing so fast. The wrong message is being sent to mass shooters. You can take the lives of more than one person, plead insanity get treatment and eventually be set free💔
This is such a gross misrepresentation of who actually ends up getting the insanity defense. It’s 0.25% of cases who actually succeed with it. It’s a VERY difficult thing to prove. Name one single mass sh00ter who succeeded with the insanity defense. I’ll wait.
@@Eltanin25 Exactly. And people act like cases like this are new, when this has always been a thing. Our family was affected by something similar decades ago where we were on both sides of the coin at once - a family member went into an acute psychotic break and murdered another family member. The family member got NGRI, was eventually released back into society after extensive psych treatment and rehab, and never committed another murder again. None of our family members or the community felt unsafe around them after they were released, either. Same goes for the hundreds of other cases in the US and Canada over the span of several decades. People need to understand that the justice system in cases like this works this way because it’s not just to punish someone for what was essentially an accident from severely mentally ill patients being victims of their own mental illness. Being found guilty of murder implies intent. That’s why the M’Naghten rules for NGRI exist. The take-home message of cases like this shouldn’t be “should the insanity defense exist?”. It should be “why is it nearly impossible to get someone in a severe acute psychotic episode psychiatric help until someone has to get hurt?”. THAT’S the problem. Our family member got Baker Acted and was released early because they were “not a threat to themselves or others” - the murder happened a few days after that. They never should’ve been released. From what I understand, Austin’s family DID try to get him help and even had a psych appointment set up for him a little bit later, but unfortunately, not soon enough because it’s damn near impossible to get a psych appointment quickly in this country. And even if it’s a psychiatric emergency, there’s no guarantee they’ll be held and properly treated (as was the case with our family member). Sad to see our mental healthcare system hasn’t changed decades later.
If this individual gets out and decides he wants to live "clean" again and stops taking his meds people will die.
An extreme majority of crimes like these occur at the hands of someone that has been let off before. The justice system is a pitiful excuse for a system.
What do you mean by "crimes like these"? Murders? Or killings done by an insane person? And from which statistic you are taking your data?
I don’t understand how insanity is a pass to kill . Go to jail n get treatment from there . Wtf . Horrible decision . Cmon ppl . Common sense . He was eating someone’s face . Jesus
If you had no control over your doings, then it's wrong to punish you for them, simple, isn't it? I can't understand what you don't understand.

I was found ngri in Texas. I saw true monsters walk out of the state hospital. I wrote a book about it .
Austin’s family is guilty of murder.
I don’t like this one single bit. Fact is 2 people are dead now because of him.

In jail or hospital he should be locked away for at least 10 years!

That's a great point. I would tend to think it could.
im so glad Austin is gonna get the help he needs-BUT DONT RELEASE HIM BACK INTO SOCIETY!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!!!!😩
Yall clearly know nothing about this case…
Blame the parents. Not him.
I want to say it’s better this way, and to let society deal with him. But my heart breaks for the victims family. I knows they don’t feel the same.

What shooter has been set free?
As I understand it, insanity plea is quite hard to prove in USA. And which mass shooter was able to do this, by the way?
Name 1 recent mass shooting to get not guilty by insanity. 🥱🙄

Harrouff will be forced to take rather unpalatable drugs in the state mental hospital.
What drug is so tough to eat as having your face eaten when you are still alive?
Don’t worry. He’s probably not going to be released. The judge would never let that happen.
