How To Fix 404 Error in Shopify Home Page

Hi, This tutorial is based on How to fix the 404 error showing in the homepage Title Tab. So I investigated that issue and opened the customizer and code editor and it showed me that there is no index.json template inside the theme code editor. Then I created a new index.json and replaced the current content on the homepage, which started working. Why do we put index.json? it is a mandatory part of a theme that tells where to start so before it started from 404 page template which is known as page not found that was there was a Page not found error in the Title Tab of the store.
