Andros is the capital of Andros. It is located in the eastern part of the island, built along a small peninsula. It is surrounded by two sandy beaches, Paraporti to the south and Neiborio to the north.
It is true that the country of Andros does not look like a Cycladic capital at all, it is the homeland of renowned shipowners and captains and maintains its glamor and its modest magnificence. The name of the island is probably derived from General Andros from Crete. The use of the name "Hydroussa" is also common due to the sources and rain of the island. Archaeological excavations in Andros prove the existence of developed settlements from Mycenaean times or earlier, showing the importance of the island in Cycladic culture. The capital of Andros, in ancient times, was Paleopolis. It is a very fertile and green place with beautiful springs and streams.
