Should Warner Brothers Discovery Buy Paramount? On the Other Hand

Media M&A could be heating up again, with Warner Bros. Discovery considering a purchase of Paramount. Is the combination a good idea? I argue both sides in the latest On the Other Hand, on CNBC's Squawk Box.

Merger between Paramount + WBD will not solve the problem.

And all it does is endanger highly acclaimed content. Just look at how the Batwoman movie was shelved after getting so far into its production cycle, and the totally completed movie about Wyle E Coyote was blocked from getting aired on Max and now currently getting shopped around to other outlets because the CEO of Warner Discovery is trying to squeeze out as money as possible in the company's bottom line. And that doesn't even get into how much Warner Bros content he's been slashing in favor of making room for and propping up Discovery based content after the Discovery acquisition of Warner Bros was finalized again in the name of squeezing out money for maximized profit. So what's to stop him from doing the same to longstanding popular franchises owned by Paramount especially with the high amount of debt WBD has saddled itself with following the previous merger between Warner Bros and Discovery?

Batwoman was shelved because it was unwatchable trash that test audiences walked out of and it was not a longstanding franchise. Airing it would have been a high profile humiliation for the newly merged company. Instead, Zaslav wisely chose to market Barbie instead which turned into one of the highest grossing movies of all time which will spawn a longstanding franchise both in movies and merchandising. Give credit where credit is due and cut the tired and lame talking points.

@@goodneighborsnetwork oh wow you found one item out of several named that may have a valid reasoning for being pulled as if that makes it valid for all the rest. Bravo for you. How about addressing the full point if you think you have a good counterpoint before trying to cherry pick one item make laughable accusations about "tired talking points".
