The worst VAR call I’ve ever seen was that penalty in the Liverpool V Brighton game, Andy Robertson accidentally hit someone’s foot while trying to win the ball back. A light tap to the foot resulted in a penalty.
Yeah , when Danny Wellbeck gets accidentally touched then stays on his feet with his eyes on the ref long enough so that he gets seen falling over, Andy Robertson had no intention of comitting the contact as his eyes were clearly on the ball but Wellbeck nicked it away at the last split second.. there is absolutely no context in descision makeng when things like this happen, it was 100% unintentional.. the worst thing now is players who hand ball when turning their backs, half will say it was handball because they had not been looking and half will say not handball because they couldnt see the ball..

The problem, as many are suggesting, is not with the rules, but with VAR itself. The rules of football have long been in place and never has there been as much talk of a drastic overhall of some rules as there is now. In my opinion, there are two ways of fixing VAR. Firstly, do away with the lines used to decide whether a player is offside and let the officials call it based soley from looking at it. If there is no clear and obvious offside that can be seen simply by looking at the best camera angle, a goal should stand. Rugby has an offside rule and I have never seen lines being used by the TMO to decide whether a player was offside or not. This allows the benefit of the doubt to be given to the attacking team, as was always in place before VAR was used. Secondly, the referees and officials should be mic'd up so that everyone can hear why a decision was given. This will allow them to explain their interpretation of the rules and minimize the hysteria that seems to surround every big call. People may still disagree at times, but at least we would know why a decision was made, instead of having to guess for ourselves without any explanation.
I think VAR should only be used for checking the possibility of a disallowed goal (like lampard goal vs Germany) or the foul happened in the box to decide a penalty kick. Anything outside that should depend on the referee's decision only
whatever margin is allowed then there will always be something a fraction over that margin, thats what happens with accuracy , if you allowed 10 cm then someone will be off at 11cm and people will say he should have been on because it was marginal
May be the first part of the offside rule should be modified, it should be offside only when an attacking player's whole body is ahead of the defending player and not just any part of their head, body, or feet.
VAR itself isn’t a bad thing it’s how long it takes. Sports like basketball and cricket have it. But the difference between them and football id they take upwards of 10-30seconds to make a decision. When I’ve seen football decisions go to 9 minuets at one time.
Accurate. Very occassionally have I seen decisions taking more than a minute in cricket. Very rare indeed. And they use very sophisticated technology such as audio meters, xray hotstpot, etc. VAR will evolve over time. It won't happen in a day.
I don’t think VAR is a problem, it is how the rules are, if someone’s toes is offside, they are offside but no one enjoys that, and when the player is marginally offside, there is no difference if he is marginally onside as well, so for those tight calls, just give it as onside and continue with the game
VAR is not the problem. The problem is the idiotic referees behind the system. It's supposed to be clear & obvious. When you to draw lines surely just give it to the attacker if the linesman didn't flag it.
If you remove VAR, you must also remove all cameras around the field, otherwise we will after the matches see how there was no goal or a red card , although everyone sees that it should have been so. VAR has come to stay!
The problem is not VAR! The problem is the bad designed offside rule. If the decision based on a rule depends on a few cm this rule needs to be changed. One could prevent hanging attackers waiting at the goal differently. Before VAR goals had been denied because the attacker was 2 cm offside as well. The difference being that some goals had been denied even though the attacker was 5 cm inside. And some goals were given even though the attacker was 8 cm offside. Is that any better?!
Same is true for technology in cricket. It was meant to overcome the howler by an umpire. But it’s overused, takes away the character of the umpire in the game, is abused by the players and I also question whether it’s accurate as well.
What I’d like to see is after the game reviews of plays to see if a player dives or embellishes. It doesn’t interfere with the games and only the obvious and most egregious get suspensions. Hopefully it will either cut down on dives or make them better actor.
People who are saying VAR is bad don't remember matches like Barca Vs Chelsea 2009, Barcelona Vs arsenal 2011, Henry Vs Ireland and so on. There is a clear offside rule and if a player is offside there is nothing you can do about it.
Man , deception is part of the game. If you can trick reff into calling a penalty for you , great. Human error does happen, but that's part of the game. Don't take it away!!
You should see the FIFA Arab Cup game between UAE and Mauritania where an Emirati player managed to score a great bicycle kick goal but it was disallowed by VAR because his knees were offside.
I think he's saying that part of Maradona's legend is that he's managed to score a goal with his hand in the World Cup and get away with it. Part of the fun in soccer/football is the ref's decisions and the controversies. Think of the 1966 England goal by Hurst: did it cross the line or did it not? Think of Thierry Henry's handball against Ireland. You get the point. Like it or not, part of the fun is the drama. While I am glad that teams can no longer can screwed over because of these things anymore (at least theoretically), a part of me misses this kind of drama and controversy.
VAR has come to end the unfair traits of Big Name teams winning by illegitimate goals, that happens a lot in World Cup matches. I enjoy watching "underdogs" beating the "Big Names" in Football. The Problem is the Weird Laws like being offside by an Elbow.
Eric Peter's handball for Burnley against Arsenal not given, or Patrick Bamford offside decision with his outstretched arm. Not sure which one is the biggest VAR joke.
Football isn’t supposed to be fair and the charm is that a team could win on a mistake from the ref. I miss the older days of football when controversial situations from the refs and players would have to be seen at the moment and if the ref didn’t see what happened the game would go on, just like life goes on. I started to boycott football many years ago and I was crazy for football, but this tech have destroyed the game I once loved.
After VAR was introduced Arsenal finished 8th twice in a row...Arsenal players are the ones to get highest numbers of red cards in the premier league because of lame decisions of Video Assistant Refrees. Whereas Manchester United progressed because they are the ones who largely benefited from VAR. Brundo Farnandez made his name in the premier league bacause of VAR.
The human element which is an important ingredient in football is slowly being removed; this element makes fans pay and enjoy the game but hard lucky this is on its way out of football. It MUST be checked! The assistant referees who are specialists in judging offside are slowly becoming obsolete and unnecessary. There will be no soup left in the game of football to deserve its rightful position in the world of entertainment. In my view, football betting may have a hand in this!
Yes VAR is ruining football. VAR is ruining football because it takes the spirit, atmosphere and emotion out of football. Referees rely more and more on VAR and don‘t have to stick up to their decisions anymore. For god‘s sake, in the Atletico vs. Leverkusen game the ref ended the game AND gave a penalty afterwards, WTF! Football lives with these types of decisions where one team might‘ve been luckier than the other. If the refs feel like they‘re not capable of making these decisions, then what are they doing in top tier football? I‘d rather have two linesmen each side and two assistants constantly surveilling the penalty box and give an immediate signal if there was a foul. Not this 5 minute, monitorwatching cr@p. If a player is offside by an micro-distance, they go and watch TV for 5 minutes. The ref should just make his decision, onside or offside and then stick with it. In the end, behind the VAR is also just a human that makes faulty decisions, so why even bother having it? VAR should only be used in situations where there should‘ve been a clear red card, or, where a red card was given that should not have been given. This is my opinion.
VAR is definitely ruining football. It not only slow down the game, but also make football boring to watch because of those prolonged stoppage. Also referees made far more errors with VAR. Not to mention that I'm a hardcore traditionalist and hate any kind of changes and technologies being used in football and any other sports.
VAR, BLM, TAKING THE KNEE, Taking the piss, were does it all end, football supporters around the world have taken a lot of crap and were fed up with it, no political stances and no taking the knee, it's a football game played by a load of fairies, making millions of pounds a year, us the supporters are being pushed out and the rich teams will be sponcert by big corporations. It's time all fans around the world should turn there backs on football just like basketball etc. Enough said about that.
Ball over the line, back and white. Offside black and white, like it or not the accuracy of offside calls have never been more accurate than they are now admittedly there are a lot of marginals but off is off just like ball over the line is ball over the line
Exactly, I don’t get why people complain about VAR for offside decisions, except when it’s too close to call and they still disallow a goal. People don’t realise that the problem is the current offside rules, not VAR. in my opinion offside should be judged by the player’s feet and nothing else.
It's not black and white when the VAR official decides which frame to draw the lines on. How do you decide when the ball 'leaves' the players foot? How do you decide at which point on their arm they're offside from? On all of the marginal offside decisions you can move to a previous or later frame for a different decision. Goal line technology is great because there's only two variables, everything else is disastrous. VAR doesn't work on subjective decisions that involve the movement of players.
I cancelled my Sky subscription partly due to VAR. Football with VAR plus being played behind closed doors was just a crap product that I wasn’t prepared to pay for. Even though crowds are coming back now I’m still not going to re-subscribe whilst VAR is ruining it. I’m a Leicester fan as well and can’t deny I was delighted when the Chelsea equaliser in the FA cup was ruled out by VAR. But I still don’t agree with it. It was a ridiculous offside ruling that never existed prior to VAR.
Offside tech is coming soon. Next, Var needs to improve on penalty check. When they check penalty after 5 mins of non stop play it feels disjointed. Imagine opponent scores a goal and penalty check disallows it. Maybe stop the play for penalty check. Or VAR refs grow some balls and say whether its penalty or not quickly instead of referring it to Ground ref. And show the players what the VAR is checking instead of having them stand around in confusion.
@@NoTimetoCry But, now, I can't enjoy watching football. Players are becoming weaker. A slight touch and they act like they've been bitten by lion or something.
VAR was introduced because many fans thought that they were hard done by decisions , it is sth we have to live with although some decisions are ridiculous , I don't see how it is scrapped off considering the amount of capital that has been put into it . I also hate VAR
I think there’s a world where VAR would benefit and make everything more accurate and smooth, but it’s like we’ve gotten all the worse aspects of it. In its initiation the game became a whole lot more stale. I also do believe that’s the competency of refs are as much as part of the game as everything else, I actually think refs are using it as a cushion and their overall performance has become way worse. There’s VAR every single goal seemingly in knocks the air out. In the past you a pen had to be more severe than a foul, and that was a common courtesy and etiquette rather than rule. That’s completely gone now, sometimes it’s even a really weak foul. Tennis is an example on how to use technology right. This was what I feared! And it had gotten slightly better since the Euro, so now it’s at least tolerable to look at, but that’s far, far under par to standards let alone improvements.
Im not againt using VAR. But the way it used is definitely ridiculous. It need a huge rework on operating to make it usefull instead of the harmful shit that we see every week.
Go back 3 seasons and show every blatant incorrect decision every single week .. if possible try and tally up which official/referees have made the decisions. Massive public pressure needs to be put on this corruption
Fast forward to today where they allowed a goal at first from Mexico vs USA, going to VAR, they found the Mexico player obviously offside, and not just by an armpit or toenail. USA go on to win 3-2.
And with regards to time wasting that's an easy problem to solve just give the referees a phone or some kind of portable screen to put in their pocket so they can just pull it out instead of having to run over to that stupid monitor

😂would say I’m glad to be in the championship,but I really ain’t😭😂
VAR is not the problem. The problem is the idiotic referees behind the system. It's supposed to be clear & obvious. When you to draw lines surely just give it to the attacker if the linesman didn't flag it.
If you remove VAR, you must also remove all cameras around the field, otherwise we will after the matches see how there was no goal or a red card , although everyone sees that it should have been so. VAR has come to stay!
thats the ref’s responsibility
The problem is not VAR!
The problem is the bad designed offside rule.
If the decision based on a rule depends on a few cm this rule needs to be changed.
One could prevent hanging attackers waiting at the goal differently.
Before VAR goals had been denied because the attacker was 2 cm offside as well. The difference being that some goals had been denied even though the attacker was 5 cm inside. And some goals were given even though the attacker was 8 cm offside. Is that any better?!
It’s not just football either var has spoiled every sport
I need this video after seeing a great goal from the Arab Cup disallowed because the scorer's leg hair was offside.
Same is true for technology in cricket. It was meant to overcome the howler by an umpire. But it’s overused, takes away the character of the umpire in the game, is abused by the players and I also question whether it’s accurate as well.
Couldn't agree more.
What I’d like to see is after the game reviews of plays to see if a player dives or embellishes. It doesn’t interfere with the games and only the obvious and most egregious get suspensions. Hopefully it will either cut down on dives or make them better actor.
Blame Skysports for this. Analysis to paralysis every week in search of controversy.
Today's world: WE MUST HAVE PERFECTION, WE MUST HAVE PERFECTION, WE MUST HAVE PERFECTION, IMPERFECTION IS ILLEGAL
@@namesurname2958 definitely, and as result, the world has moved further away from perfect than ever before
People who are saying VAR is bad don't remember matches like Barca Vs Chelsea 2009, Barcelona Vs arsenal 2011, Henry Vs Ireland and so on.
There is a clear offside rule and if a player is offside there is nothing you can do about it.
Remember Chelsea - barca 2009?
Aaaaaaaaa shut up
This video helped me pass my English language speech
Man , deception is part of the game. If you can trick reff into calling a penalty for you , great.
Human error does happen, but that's part of the game. Don't take it away!!
@Imperialist Caesar the only thing I like is: Neymars diving, trash talk and banter and idk remember what I was going to say
In cricket both team have 1 review they can only use once in one half and use the other in the second half. 2 reviews per match.
Neymar is the poster-boy for playacting.
i miss the old days...
WHEN SALAH'S PINKIE TOE WASNT OFFSIDE
You should see the FIFA Arab Cup game between UAE and Mauritania where an Emirati player managed to score a great bicycle kick goal but it was disallowed by VAR because his knees were offside.
Var is getting better in 2021
Don't quite know where he was going with the hand of god point but overall I agree 😂
Get var out and scrap it. That's what the fans want and football is their for the fans. Now take your computers go!
I don’t think VAR is annoying waiting 5 minutes is normal and knowing the right decision is made is definitely good.
VAR should be only used once per game for each team when they decide to use it
i like this
Football isn’t supposed to be fair and the charm is that a team could win on a mistake from the ref.
Brundo Farnandez made his name in the premier league bacause of VAR.
no one wants to talk about this. Man U fans think its a conspiracy
Enough said about that.
so it's not technology's fault. It's still the people who analyzes it. They just need to be consistent
Who all are here after the poor VAR decision on Sterling's penalty against Denmark
Not just var it's how soft the game has become anyone for.netball ladies ??
var should only count if their feet are over the defender line
Manè’s elbow is better than the best of the best
A video that makes 100% sense. VAR was meant to look at the mistakes made by referee's now it's being hypocritical 🤨
Couldn’t we just use VAR for dives, but only for when penalties are called. Not for reviewing something that didn’t get a call.
#VAROUT 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
I'm with u make VAR sucks
arms and legs don’t count as offside as far as i understood. It’s not just var, it’s the refs
Head, body and feet
VAR is definitely taking away fun passion the game is supposed be a fun and entertaining
And then stupid calls were made, just like World Cup 1998 & 2002.
@@NoTimetoCry But, now, I can't enjoy watching football. Players are becoming weaker. A slight touch and they act like they've been bitten by lion or something.
Couldn't agree more...!!!
Dude how do u only have 13k?!?
VAR RUINED FOOTBALL I MISS THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF 4 YEARS AGO
ruined english football*
@@rafraf2973 international *
Yeah but i never want to see the 'hand of god' happen again in a world cup so to me thats more important than the headaches of the wait time.
Watch England vs Germany world Cup match where lampard scores and not allowed. How did you see that
The off side rule should be slightly changed it should be measured by the feet, not any part of the body!
I cannot imagine something worse than stupid var could happen to football
VAR was introduced because many fans thought that they were hard done by decisions , it is sth we have to live with although some decisions are ridiculous , I don't see how it is scrapped off considering the amount of capital that has been put into it . I also hate VAR
It can with people power. Loss of fans will cause it to change.
VAR is easier to fix a match's result.
The real question is how to get VAR out of this sport
I my own heart I wish that football will be a better game without VAR and I want FIFA to forbidden VAR FOEVER
They must improve the use of VAR but form me now in an essetial tool.
And with regards to time wasting that's an easy problem to solve just give the referees a phone or some kind of portable screen to put in their pocket so they can just pull it out instead of having to run over to that stupid monitor
