How do I get Horizontal line pattern? The only thing that shows up is Trees, Grass, and waters

Just make your canvas 1 pixel wide and 5 pixel tall then color 2 pixel above black and leave the 3 pixel below as transparent and define it as pattern.
click "legacy patterns and more" under the patterns menu

For the pattern overlay there’s only patterns of trees and grass on my photoshop, can someone tell me how I can get the patterns he used in this video?

What does converting to smart object actually do to the layer? I have CS2 and I don’t think it has that option. Is it a necessary step?

There is no "horizontal line" pattern overlay preset in new version of photoshop. :/ An updated video would be awesome.
