I still remember the first time I heard Shadow Devil start in on Megaman X5 and thinking "no, it can't be..."
I thought the same thing. My godfather (who never played the original series) had no idea it was a famous Mega Man boss. I had him fight the Yellow Devil and... well he gave up. Can you blame him.

Shadow devil has the best music but I still have PTSD from trying to beat it
I know it's not a part of the main timeline but Alpha from Megaman Battle Network 3 had some pretty awesome music and to my knowledge is the only version of the devil enemies that was a final boss.
And his music is quieter than other bosses even though the fight is tense. The funny thing about Alpha is that Willy and Light built it together.
I never realized that Alpha was the Battle Network version of the Devil Bot
