I cannot stress just how important it is to watch this if you are thinking of buying an xmaxx… people often underestimate just how much grunt these things have and in the wrong hands can pose as a danger to people, animals and property. They are, big, heavy, fast and can fling stones hard enough to smash a window or take an eye out… as a veteran xmaxx owner, I have warned people to really have a think before buying one… and this video further backs my recommendations. Nice one dude 👍
Got one 4 months ago and this video is absolutely spot on. I love mine but there is a bit of a chore in actually running this beast, for all mentioned reasons.
I happen to get mine, a few years ago. First thing that happened, after buying batteries etc. Is that I took it over to show my sister, with out practicing with it first. ( It was on full mode, not practice mode. ) And what happened? ( Stepping up from a Walmart special RC car. ) It was running just fine, until I ran it out of control. And hit her tree dead on / full speed. 🥲 We both laughed about it. We both mentioned, this needs more of an open field / track. Still love it. 🥰 Three sets of tires Still trying to get the electrics, to link back up. 😩 So, I can put my new paddle tires on. ( Use your imagination. 😁 ) Yes, it does become expensive. Expect, to pull out the funds. For a blast of having fun, being a kid again. 👍👍
Man check out the Raminator! Huge gas powered Dodge Ram monster truck by PrimalRc! 49cc 2 stroke beast, here’s a link www.primalrc.com/raminator-monster-truck-v3
Great video! Especially on the safety aspects. The X-Maxx (or any other 1/5th scale) is a beast of a machine that can be very dangerous if not operated carefully.
WOW, your points are spot on. My Beautiful Bride surprised me with one, to go with my other 45 cars, apparently after seeing me flip one over at the LHS, and she thought that she saw me drool or something. Roughly 7 years now and I’ve run it about that many times. Lug this tank around to run it for an hour -OR- take a couple 1/10 SCT’s and run them for 4-5 hours?
This was a great video! Ironically, I just bought a used green 8S X-Maxx off Craigslist. Came with two lightly-used 7.6Ah 4S batteries for $775. I figure that's about $500 less than all this would have cost new, plus sales tax. The body had some cracks in the back and the old graphics, so I bought a replacement new one that's identical to yours. So now it looks like a new X-Maxx, plus I can still use the original body as a beater. And yeah this thing is a potentially dangerous BEAST ... but so much fun!
It’s great rc car got it recently I have an open area I use it in just 500m down the road but overall after 3 runs it’s great fun I will need to find a few more good spots to run it but so far so good.
As much as I want the X don't have a proper place to fully get the max out of it, so ended up buying the Maxx V2. Have a couple Arrma 8 scales but mostly 10 scale for the same reason.
Think about it as a 25lb rig at a 50 mph witch a box stock 8s xmaxx will do can produce over 2000lb of force during an impact. If it hits something at full speed it will do damage and lots of it
Give its size and weight… it’s actually a daunting to see just how fast and aggressive it is… and it’s not just crashing it… even whacking the trigger on a loose surface will cause damage to a nearby house, car, kids, animals etc.. I know this because i have broken a car window with mine… you have to be so careful
Happy it helped! The stampede is right there with the rustler for me……just a timeless classic that still Rocks! The Xmaxx is a beast and a blast all in one 👍
I wish I could find the footage of my daughter upending me with our Redcat Shredder a few years ago. I bet with those upgrades your Xmaxx is a beast of a machine
Thank you. Some of this information seems no brainer however, that wasn’t the case when I was 12 years old, working multiple paper routes to finally be able to buy the nitro RC of my dreams only to find there was absolutely nowhere. I could use it within my neighborhood. hoping to save others from similar learning pains. Thanks again!!
People who have never owned or ran one won't understand what you mean about the risk of injury fully. Until you have seen a 30# truck coming at you are 50mph on the back tires you wont know. These things will break stuff not bruise you lol. I have a rustler and an XMAXX. 1 thing between them, the X-Maxx will run absolutely anywhere. Through the woods, over anything. After an hour you realize the cool jumps you hit with your 10th scale are just a bump for the truck. I have my rustler basically with every part made other than the ecu/motor as of now. My xmaxx is getting a widemaxx kit while I watch this, led lights, and a few other parts. Rustler, I have 2500 in from my last list. Xmaxx was 1000 plus each battery pair is about 260/280 range. 4 batteries and $700 parts list times, you will wrap us $2-2500 very easily in an XMAXX. Worth every penny!!!!! They are just insanely fun to drive.
I would like to add another caveat to this. You have to pay to play. After your initial purchase price, consider the operating costs. Things do wear out and break. Even if things go well, there is a cost to maintaining and fixing these, especially for those who are not mechanically inclined.
That sure is the truth! I have been pleasantly surprised to find despite their size Xmaxx replacement parts are pretty reasonably priced however there’s no avoiding the fact that you will need to buy them at some point so the expense goes on as you pointed out.
I would argue that the size of the Xmaxx opens many more opportunities to run in more places because it can simply do more than a 1/10 scale. You are limited to where you can run a 1/10 scale because the obstacles are too big. Not so with this truck. As for as the danger….uh, who runs their machines around lots of people? Yes, a person can get hurt. It weighs 24 pounds. If it hits anything at speed, something is going to get broken. A leg even. It’s called being responsible. If your kid is irresponsible, this is definitely not for them. It should not be considered a toy. It can do damage. I even geared mine down to help with this. Still is a blast to run, and yes, it is still quite dangerous.
You are so right this truck is a beast beast and you do have to have safety precautions in mind when you use it I give that to you good video buddy oh buddy you're getting 20 stuff from me L o l
Good points. I prefer the bigger trucks myself even though I do have some smaller ones like the Granite BLX. The Granite breaks often and I've had to upgrade a few things to make it as durable as the Xmaxx honestly. It is more expensive to run the bigger rigs, but more fun. I also have a the Outcast 8s and EXB K8S. Check them out in my channel. Subscribed. Last Sunday my son knocked me over with the Xmaxx, so yeah, it does more damage if it hits you or something else 😅🤣
Oh man I feel your pain! My daughter completely obliterated me with a Redcat shredder last year! With the Xmaxx being even heavier I bet that sent you for a ride! Interesting about the Granite, what has been the most common failure with it?
@@SonoranScaleStudios First the plastic spur gear stripped after like 5 runs, stock tires suck (wet with the M2C 17mm hexes and proline 2.8 tires), rear control arms broke quickly (replaced with rpm ones), rear top bulkhead broke after like 7 runs, the plastic pivot balls all whore out quickly (ordered some HR metal pivot balls and bell crank), the steering sucks, stock shocks are weak and the shock shafts bend easily. So yeah. The stock motor mount bent like crazy, destroying the pinion (replaced with m2c motor mount). So lots of upgrades have gone into this thing to make it more bashable. The Maxx 4s that I had before was way more durable. I also destroyed the driveshafts (replaced with gpm metal ones). So lots of issues.
Hey that’s AWESOME! Happy you noticed it because it doesn’t get noticed often. Someday this will be big enough to have some giveaways……keeping watching my friend 👍
every rc that can hit 100+ kmh is dangerous.. My 6s typhon tops around 120+ kmh and weights around 4kg with lipos is a lethal projectile for small children and animals.
I use Zeee Lipos which of course are cheap. I was talking about doubling the cost of batteries versus a 1/10 truck using a single 3s or 4s pack as the Xmaxx requires two 3s or 4s. Not that the price of batteries doubles the cost of the Xmaxx.
Thank you for sharing my friend, this is exactly my point. A newcomer to the hobby or a child that has been saving hard earned money can easily end up with a total bill approaching double the MSRP of the truck without proper research in preparation. A high-quality charger and high-quality batteries can be had from alternate sources for 1/5 to 1/4 the cost of traxxas namebrand equipment. There are advantages to using Traxxas equipment undoubtably especially regarding warranty related issues and Traxxas is known for high-quality products. With that said I still choose to stick with my inexpensive Amazon batteries and charger and save that extra money to go towards more trucks! Thanks again for sharing the pricing, sometimes it makes it easier when people can just simply see the numbers.
@@SonoranScaleStudios yeah I agree this is definitely not a beginner truck. I’d suggest the sledge or maxx I have a xmaxx and 2 others I know do also there fun but if u don’t have the room to use them or the money or time Time to play with them there kinda not worth it I mean between the truck charger batteries ur easy at 1400$+ right off rip compare to the 1/10 maxx that u can get for 550 batterie and charger I’ve seen for 209$ for both and they go 60mph the hobby is addictive but definitely not cheap
There are absolutely ZERO reasons not to own an Xmaxx, PERIOD. It’s the best RC truck ever.

Thanks much for the positive feedback! They are an amazing machine and I can’t wait to see what will finally replace it as the top dog

Hahaha could picture it clearly! The Xmaxx is just a terror on the paddles and 8s……HOLD on!
Just bought a rustler 4x4 vxl brushless and the new sledge. And love them so much. But now I'm looking at the xmax or the xrt
I wish the kept innovation on nitro. I've been waiting for a multi cylinder, 2 stroke, large displacement. I would love a nitro xmaxx sized rc jank!

@@heyby8764 thanks ☺️
I like the losi mini t for indoor, carport racing. Yet fast enough brushless to take to the sparking lots
Great video. Thankfully I bought an Xmas 6s batteries and charger all together for 400 bucks I love it
That’s a heck of a deal!! When it comes time for new batteries I’ve had years of great results with Zeeee lipos. Nice and cheap too👍

lol with great power comes great responsibility………enjoy the beast they are so great!!
Well said my man !!
Thanks for watching!
I'm buying my own Xmaxx in a few weeks. I only use NIMH batteries from traxxas. Can I use that for the Xmaxx?
The xmaxx system wants 15 volts minimum. I don't think they make NIMH batteries with that kind of power
Yes unfortunately to supply the required power it’s lipo or bust at this time when talking XMAXX
