Respect to Mrs cable, if you know you know.... ✌🏼❤️
Love the fact that Kelly keeps this so personal - even filming on his own phone... means it is a heartfelt dedication to Stuart from him..... and what a tune...
It's such a poignant song...the very antithesis of what makes the 'phonics a great band..... RIP Stuart
Anyone who knew Stuart knows how much a of special character he was. Always kept his feet grounded and loved the banter.
19-5-70 happy 50th birthday birthday Stuart cable, gone but never forgotten.
Never forgotten 🙏🙏🙏RIP STUART. PEACE BE WITH YOU MY FRIEND'S.✌️✌️😎😎🏴🏴🇺🇦🇺🇦
How fitting is it that 20 years on from their brilliant first album, Kelly includes a beautiful song as a tribute to the great drummer that is Stuart Cable. Its good to be reminded of the roots of the band time to time. As amazing as Stereophonics and Kelly Jones have always been, I do miss their old material - those were their golden days.
I fully agree and im sure yourself and most will say Kelly/Phonics are still producing such amazing music .... still a stupidly underrated band that is a proper hands down amazing band by far than most the bands we have seen producing so called music these days who are absolute dog $hit and have become massive in the game !!!!! Shows how messed up the music industry really is !!!!! Sad times :-( Kelly/Phonics forever xxxx
Can't wait to see these next month, beyond excited, hope he sings this one and some of the oldies!!
Wales proudest nation on this planet ......by far.
Oh Kelly that is beautiful. Heartbreaking, yet beautiful.
What a voice ❤❤❤
Totally underrated musician, songwriter & vocalist.... I feel in the future they will see Kelly's greatness.
A story a voice a piano could it be any more beautiful?
I miss you, man
Before anyone knew our name
We had the fire, had desire
But what went wrong then?
It seemed so big in the eye of our storm
We couldn't have been further away from unknown
Who did we become? Amen, we were meant to be
Was that really your destiny?
Was that really your dream?
I don't really feel anyone else came close to how we see
We had the prize before our eyes
But we already had it all anyway
Driving round for hours on end
With the music on loud
Driving round in a scrapyard van
With the music on loud
I've laughed and cried, I've confessed that I'm liar
We built this thing from a dead end street
And now I'm looking around for you to see
I miss you, man
Before anyone knew our name
We had the fire
Before anyone knew our name
We had desire
Before anyone knew our name
I miss you, man
The street's so quiet now
Run down and heavy
It used to be a laugh
Swimming pools of cries
Yeah, we said our sorry's
Yeah, we made our make ups
But that don't make up for what's missing now
We built this thing from a dead end street
You couldn't drive through, just take the bus or just meet
The mountain tops, they don't seem so high
The trees I climbed, they don't seem so high
I take my kids to see the world where we played
I miss you, man
Before anyone knew our name
We had the fire
Before anyone knew our name
We had desire
Before anyone knew our name
I miss you, man
Before anyone knew our name
We had the fire
Before anyone knew our name
We had desire
Before anyone knew our name
I miss you, man
Love, friendship, loss and regret.
I still remember the first time I met Stuart exactly 17 years ago. He had a massive smile and was so bubbly greeting fans after Kelly played a solo gig at the Birmingham Irish centre. I met a very different Stuart 3 years later...this song is such a fitting tribute to him. Thank you Stereophonics for being a part of my life for the past 19 years. I'm so looking forward to the live shows next year. Glastonbury in 2019??
I am completely smitten by this song. It makes me cry every time I hear it and I listen to it frequently. I remember getting Word Gets Around and telling all my friends about this brilliant new Welsh band. And then the album won the Mercury music prize and everyone was asking me if I'd heard it! The song resonates with me so much because of that, because of the social references (my town Tredegar is similarly subdued) and the cultural references...i used to drive around all night with my friends (because there was nothing to do). Such a haunting, moving song.
WGA in my top 3 debut albums of all time. Incredible album
Had the great fortune of seeing what I think was their first U.S. appearance at SXSW '97 in Austin, TX at a V2 Artist Showcase. They were booked for an early evening slot into a tiny bar that had no stage where Stuart's kit was set up on the floor in a bay window. The place had room for about 30 patrons but they packed every inch of that space with people who had the early buzz on the band. After playing what felt like only 4 songs, the house soundman decided that he was going to cut their set short to keep on track with the evening's showcase schedule. Upon hearing they were only getting one more song to play, Stuart jumped from his kit, ran over to Kelly's mike and yelled to the industry people in the house "we just flew all the F***ing way over here from Wales and there is no way we are leaving this spot until we are done with our set!" The place erupted .. and that moment in time has stayed with me for the twenty years I've been a fan of the band. Just caught them again at Irving Plaza NYC a few weeks ago prepping for the upcoming European arena tour .. so great to see them again up close sounding as good as they did in '97 before anyone knew their name.
awesome, thanks for sharing :)
Yes thank you, I got to see them last night at Wembley, and have seen them many times before including intimate gigs and they are just like wine getting better each day that goes by.
Last night a few thousand couldn’t show due to the weather system that’s hit us from Siberia but during the show Kelly and co allowed a fan to come on stage via the back as a surprise and propose to his now fiancé. Then about 30 mins later whilst performing a solo acoustic number Kelly spots a commotion in the crowd, alerts his security team by tapping one on the head with his foot (whilst still playing) turns out it was a heart attack, obviously some fans were drunk and didn’t understand and when the chants and foot stomping started Kelly politely put them in their place, saying it was serious and to show respect.
So nobody went without they didn’t have a break or encore etc and played straight through the best set I’ve heard.
Stuart is sorely missed though. . . However this current drummer is filling his shoes well.
Thanks for sharing that was a great read 😊
What a delightfully wonderful memory to share thank you 👍
Beautiful, Kelly. RIP Stuart 💙
Saw the original Stereophonics three peice band at Glastonbury 1998 and they stopped me in my muddy tracks, I have followed them to this day and last saw them live at Portsmouth this summer. Amazing group and deeply moving tribute to the one and only Stuart Cable R.I.P Man

Love this tune! KJ voice is beautiful at the best of times but this is absolutely perfect, you can hear the pain in the story he’s telling us of losing not only a band member but more importantly a friend! I lost my cousin 2 years ago and it makes me think of him as he was also a very proud Welsh man, just his voice and the words ‘I MISS YOU MAN’ Bravo KJ 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Start Cable RIP xx Great song dedicated to him Kelly
The loss of a best friend is devastating- I have been through it. You have braved so many obstacles (your sorry's) and yet you still love him- you are a true friend. I am so sorry for your loss, and I am so sorry that he couldn't hang on. The first 10 seconds of this song I knew it was about Stuart- baby, he loves you too.
I still can't get enough of this song. The emotions get me every time. The first time I listened to the Scream Above the Sounds album I was driving and this track had me in floods of tears behind the wheel. So raw.
So beautifully put Kelly. Your music can draw a thousand pictures ❤️
Nobody could ever replace Stuart! He was a top man with a character larger than life!! RIP mate.

Been a phonics fan for years now, this is just so raw and powerful. Actually brought me to tears. Doesn't take long to figure out what or who this song is about. R.I.P Stuart, legendary drummer with a heart of gold. Coming to see you boys live at the metro in Newcastle in March. Can't fucking wait!
