Great to see you back on yt! I have been busy over the holidays, but nothing holiday related. Instead, I have finally booked my voyage to Thailand and beyond, and I've been getting everything ready to go! I leave from LAX on Feb 22 and arrive to Bangkok Feb 24. Got my one-way ticket and my visa already. Now just finishing up mailing address issues, getting my 34-liter backpack efficently organized, and some financial stuff. I am excited and terrified, but thankful that I am finally moving forward. I will have lived in a vehicle for 1,019 days by the time I leave, lol. You look very happy and well rested for all that tramping! Hehe, cheers!
Congratulations!!!! That's so exciting! Only about a month to go! Nice work with the 34-liter backpack - that's impressive! Wishing you the best with all your final preparations!!
@@mari.johnson Haha, yeah I just spent 4 hours figuring out how to pack it for the first time, and I don't think there's a milliliter to spare, lmao. And that's with a 17-inch laptop! I'm pretty happy that I guessed correctly 3 years ago and didn't have to buy a new bag.
Nice you are showing people the more out of the way places in Aotearoa! I grew up in the deep south-this area is my old stomping ground..Best way in to Green Lake is the way you came out over the tops via Borland Saddle-many magical tarns to bathe in if its a good day:-)
What a cool part of the world to grow up in! I love it around there! Ah yeah coming in that way might have been easier than going out. My legs are still scratched up from the dense shrubbery haha
Yeah I love the openness of the beech forest in southern fiordland-has a very primordial feeling..the flats going in the other way are pretty swampy and full of matagouri-gaitors, long johns and short shorts (standard kiwi tramping attire) will keep the scratches away..unless its a Wild Spaniard.
Awesome video !! Have put that walk on my "to do " list !! , I only managed a few smaller day walks around Christchurch and Lake Coleridgee area over the festive season
Hi Mari! My name is Chris, I’m a recent subscriber. I’m from San Francisco Bay Area, now going to school in San Diego. Love your content! It lets me live vicariously through your experiences. I hope to get my passport soon (never been outside the US eep)... i think my first travel location would be Iceland or Switzerland!
Hi Mari and Nick, thanks for sharing another great video. You have really been missed. I was almost getting withdrawal symptoms from not watching your videos. So glad to know that you are both okay. Love the scenery there. Incidentally, if you want to see how New Zealand TV used to be received in Melbourne back in the analogue days, you can see some samples on my UA-cam channel. I remember years ago seeing a programme about Milford Sound and they showed some video from the front of the boat. Absolutely awesome. By the way, I have also sent you an email with details about me and my family, as I remember you asking subscribers to do that ages ago. I love the part around 9:47 where you are attacked by the killer sheep. By 9:49, it looks like the sheep had completely devoured your car. Now if I had been there, just back from couch surfing, I could have thrown a lounge chair at the sheep and rescued you both. LOL. Anyway, wishing you the very best. Robert.
Hi Robert! Good to hear from you again! I just found your email! Apologies, it got lost in my inbox. Very cool about the old Milford Sound footage. haha the sheep
Hi Mari, it was great to see your UA-cam video. I was actually starting to get a bit concerned and I had fears of you and Nick being lost somewhere out in the wilderness there. I was very glad to hear that you are both okay. Our video was excellent. It is great seeing parts of New Zealand that I haven't visited. Incidentally, did you spend any time at that little cabin that you came to during the hike? Also, was that place quite close to the beach? Anyway, my best wishes to you both. Robert.
Hi Mari, it certainly looks like a nice area there. I have just been listening to your video again and you mentioned about the Green Lake Hut. Hmm!! How did I miss that before?? You are fortunate that there are no snakes there. When we go for bush walks here in Australia, that is always something we need to be aware about, especially long grass. The snow area looks incredible. Still plenty of snow, despite it being summer. Anyway, take care. Robert.
Mari, you have great energy and very good at all of this. I look forward to watching all your videos. I am still learning and getting more comfortable with vlogging but I'm hoping that will get easier each day on the PCT. Maybe we'll cross paths out there. All the best :)
Cheers Tracy! Vlogging will definitely get easier as you do it. Yes, I hope we do cross paths out there!! How are you planning on filming/uploading your videos?? I haven't decided yet how I'll do it yet.
Fantastic video. I must check out Green Lake. Love the DOC huts, they’re a brilliant place to rest up after a long day tramping. Have you walked the Greenstone Caples?
Happy new year Mari and Nick! I went to the Chapada Diamantina National Park here in Brazil, did some of the most beautiful hikes I've ever done and went to some of the most amazing waterfalls in the country
I'm going to Christchurch in 2 weeks, I'm not sure whether to work first and get settled or go traveling around with kiwi experience because it's the summer there now at the moment. 🧐 Hmmm. This is a nice video btw. 🥝
Might depend what kind of work you're trying to get? If you have enough money though, I think traveling around to start is a good way to get oriented with the country. But just depends on your situation. Best of luck with it all!
Mari and Nick, you have the ability to make all your vlogs feel like home, and make us wish we were there. Thanks, and take care.
You have inspired me to visit NZ Due to so many setbacks, I never had a chance to go NZ is like heaven
Thank you for using the language: tramping, great word with huge respect attached to it. And what a great document you have made of my old home area.

Such a beautiful coastline, I wish we had gone that far south - maybe when we have a more efficient van and come back we shall venture there :)
A lot of people seem to miss the very south of New Zealand, but it's pretty spectacular! I hope you do get to come back!

Yeah that's where we stayed for New Year's Eve! It's called Green Lake Hut and it's right on the beach of Green Lake! :)

Hello from Brazil!
Did you call the track humpridge or humpfridge?! 😂
Very good, maybe just slow down some of the pan shots as you show the mountain scenery, 09:06 - 09:12
Wow! You guys must be really fit by now!
