As many others have said, your videos are excellent with good balance between talking and playing. I am amazed at the ease with which you find a melody to go with a style almost instantly. It is a wonderful talent which must coms from many hours of practicing and playing. I hope that you play out somewhere for people to appreciate your music live!
Many thanks Leigh. I love the way you improvise around the original melodies - that's quite a skill! Absolutely agree with your comments about the guitar and harmonica sounds and some of the other OTS choices. It's disappointing to see Genos 2 let down like this.
I'm glad you did this video Leigh. Because I was waiting for the Older styles. I'm not much of a grand hand at the newer stuff. I think we grew up at the best music in the world when we were kids and I know you are a lot younger than I am but you had a big taste of this kind of music. From your parents and well let me tell you there is no other like it.! You are an awesome demonstrator. Whiter Shade of Pale was lovely.
Hi Leigh. Blown away as usual. I am envious of your key board skills, you make it look so easy and I know it’s not. I am very fortunate to have had one of the first “Genos” keyboards and hence the damage financially was not too great to move up to the new Genos2. I feel a little ashamed that I have only progressed so far using EzPlay music, very primitive I know but I do have hours of fun. I hope to retire soon and have time for lessons. In the mean time I can only dream of achieving some additional skills to make the most out of this great musical equipment. I treated myself to two Bose L1 speakers when I went from my old AR100 to the original Genos so it now sounds good. Oh, if I could only play 10% as good as you. Thanks for all your great videos, keep up the good work. ThanksMike Sheffield.
Hello Mike. Prices of Genos2 have gone up again and as long as you get enjoyment out of what you do who cares. As long as you have fun and love what you play. Thanks for commenting and I wish you all the best.
Merry X-mas my dear fellow. I agree totally with your statement about this horrible shadow guitar. I don't want to say I hate it but this sound is teasing me for a long time. Remember the Tyros models. You can't kill that cat! Thank you for your presentation of Genos 2 my friend, All the best for the New Year, juese
Another great video. It's great to hear the genos 2 really demonstrated. I wonder if you could perhaps demonstrate some of the new voices sometime please.
Great video Leigh.Couldn't agree more about the OTS. I have been unhappy with them from my T2 and T5. I've always had to change and save to registration for most styles. Like everybody else, i prefer to listen to your commentary as well as the excellent playing.
It might appear the Genos 2 could be targeting hobbyist home musicians with a fun keyboard. Not sure if it will fit for high end professional events. Some of the endings seem a little predictable.
I am enjoying your demo of this keyboard. You are doing a fine job. At about 23 minutes in, I was thinking the same thing about the OTS for this category. I haven't finished the video, I'm at the 23 minute mark, but I don't understand some of the OTS selections. In reading through the manual, it seems that the only way to create your own OTS settings is by creating a new User Style. It shouldn't be that hard, you should be able to update the current OTS to what you want and save it. I got through much of it, skipped to the end, and heard your comments about the OTS. I hope Yamaha does change that in an upcoming update. Other than that, I am so far very impressed with this keyboard, and I'm really thankful that you're taking the time to put these videos together for us. Now, back to the rest of the video. I have another question, and the manual isn't very clear on this. The Live Control sliders. The default seems to be Style, M.Pad, Left, Right 1, Right 2, Right 3, etc. I know I can use the Assign Slider button to change them. What I'm curious is could I rearrange them to have Right 1 on the far right, Right 2 just to the left of it, Right 3 to the left of Right 2, and then Left to the left of Right 3, and then maybe a slider for Drums, one for Percussion and then one for Accompaniment Parts (as a whole)? Also, the manual says that it resets after you turn the power off, so I'm guessing no way to save those, if you can even change them that way, as a default?
Wish we could sit down with a pint and chat. Agree with so much you are saying. Watched an old Elka demo, their styles and voices start simple and build up, so guitar, piano then strings, organ, brass etc. but all the voices match the style. Not knocking Yamaha, well actually I suppose I am, they are the market leaders and have been doing it for a long time. You just expect better. There are so many inferior voices. Example, there's some legacy sax voices that are stunning, why didn't they just add sa2 , not change the voice. I totally agree, some voices are really thin, also never used that horrific guitar. Great vid as usual Leigh, and I still want one, lol
Many of these styles are also on Genos1 and they used that ShadowLead there..... I have Genos1 and I confirm that ShadowedGuitar is a lot better than ShadowLead. btw, checking the data list and comparing E.guitar pages on genos1 and genos2 I found pretty the same presets. I can't compare sounds because I don't have genos2, but the name are all the same. only some preset were moved a little up or down.
I use a few intros endings for certain tunes. The intro 3 and endings 3 can be a bit busy, but some are fine. Agree it’s more musical to play your own intro or ending.
Hi Leigh totally agree with you on the OTS, even on my T5 I always changed the voicing, then ended up using registrations I know that's a work around but it shouldn't have to be that way, looks like I will be doing the same when my G2 when it arrives. Thanks for another great video -Del
Great overview of the styles. I have been looking to replace my tyros 5, and thought the Genos 2 would be a logical upgrade path, to couple with my Nord stage 4 for live duo events. After listening to these demos it seems like the Ots settings really like to use guitars, sax, cheesy organ sounds like in the House of Rising sun style. I think it’s time to revisit the korg PA5x.
Get Genos 1.... don't doubt it I own Tyros 5 which is a great arranger even to this date... But I assure you genos 1 sounds better and has better styles!!!! ... I don't know why....?! fortunately or unfortunately 😕😕?! 🤷♀️
Just a note, I always had been disappointed by OTS presets in all keyboards I had, it seems they put a lot of care in style voicing but then uses voices in OTS that don't fit.
I concur, even dating back to the PSR S770, it's often necessary to disregard the OTS (One Touch Setting) configurations since they don't harmonize effectively with the Styles. As mentioned, they should certainly be customizable rather than imposed on users.
Different horses for different courses I guess but yeah I prefer the one that you like better. I find with my sx 600 the ots settings don’t always make sense and the volume levels cause me grief at times .
A lot of the rock n roll styles appear to be very similar; the guitars are very good; the shadow guitar you like is better. I like the style and sounds for ‘Those Were the Days’
Thank you for the videos on Genos2! Did you suceed in installing the bonus content (DX7 and Complete package) via YEM ver. 2.10? I get an error on both PC and Mac: Cannot save the file. Make sure that the memory is not write protected and theres enough free space.
Another great demo thanks Leigh! l think you're being a bit unfair on the harmonica and Shadows guitar choices though. There's only another 1989 voices to choose from after all 😉🤣🤣
That would be the icing on the cake if we could edit them. It's probably one of the only things that let the Genos down as I like pretty much everything else on the keyboard.
Hi league,,,on my new g2 the shadows guitar sound is crap(for wanting a better word) on my g1 it was great,,can you please advise,,,I know we can tweak sounds, but I,m a bit baffled,,thanks Bill brown
Firstly it’s the same voice. Have you chosen the shadowed guitar on page 3 of the E guitar section or the first voice in page one? Also have you set your EQ?
Frankly Leigh is there really a big difference of styles and sound between Genos and Genos 2. Most of the styles used in the oldies section are quite similar to Genos original. Please comment on that. Is it really worth to change keyboard Genos 2 since these styles sounds almost like genos original.
After listening carefully to styles of Genos 2 in the oldies section style you have to admit that the Genos 1 has very similar styles to Genos 2. I don't really see a big difference between the keyboard. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
If you are going to lose 2k on px'ing genos1 and then pay another 3k for genos2 you might just as well keep it and stack it with midi. Leigh has the video 👍
The styles don't sound any different on the Oldie's sounds or intros on my Genos, I like your demo's, keep them coming, not certain that I have done the right thing ordering the G2😕
Leigh humans never get anything perfect there is always room for improvement. Genos2 has reached a high standard, especially for the price. The Genos2 sounds great and with a little fiddle with the controls I am sure you can make those sounds you don't like sound a lot better. I have every confidence in your skills to do this. It is a good video Leigh, and I enjoyed it.
It's all guitars and thumping drums. All kids stuff. Surely there must be saxophones and trombones voices with reasonable waltz and foxtrot styles. How about the organ voices? I play old time dance music (sequence dance) and from this video I would not like to take that out to play. You played just one registration button and ALL OTS! Think I'll stay with my Tyros4. Fact of the matter is that you are a very skilled player and I enjoy listening to you play. I use AI fingering and make my own registrations. Kind regards, Dennis.

Yes, but you need to save style as a new file on user disk. Other solution is to use registration memory sounds.
Sadly not unless you save a duplicate style with your own settings.
