Noise abatement for more power Win Win indeed! During one of my often entertainded indulgences of drinkin' beer & admirin' the well engineered curves of my DU69160 Trophy Sports; noticing the header pipe length & sweep differential, set me a Heineken mind ponderence over why the standard twins were nicknamed the proverbial ''Trumpet'' & so logically their, in fact sound note scales from the differed header pipe lengths live up to that very coined term. Gonna own a Norton one day, if our Commander In Chief keeps a buildin' up our economy. 92118
My '74 850 has this cross over pipe. It also have "muted" silencers....the end opening on each silencer has a reduced diameter. The parts catalog shows this as a removable insert but on mine they a contiguous part of the welded reverse cone section. I'd kinda like a more throaty sound out the pipes....would swapping the silencers to the more open design improve things? What about losing/blocking off the cross pipe?
Yes, the parts catalog showed them as having a removable insert but I've never seen a "bean can" stock muffler that had a removable one. Slap on a set of our reverse cone peashooters and you will be happy with the sound and performance. Leave the standard crossover header pipes on if they are in good shape.
