Got one myself last weekend and you are spot on with your review. I had ordered a cherry burst but received what looks more like a tobacco burst but over the last couple of days it’s grown on me. Had a GLP back in the day (20th Anniversary edition) and sold it when my last band called it quits (aaargh). So this is the first LP I’ve had since the ‘80’s and really am enjoying it. Thanks for the review and rock on!
Some of the FFLP’s have the body pickup hole routed too wide thus exposing the pickup cavity next to the pickup ring. This is only noticed when removing the pickguard. Mine also had several frets that were out of level and will need serious attention. I will say that the neck and body were built very, very well and when I’m done tweaking mine it will be one bad mother.
Thanks for the review. Nut width and neck depth at 1st and 12th frets would be useful since I've had a problem getting these specs from them. Be nice to hear some single notes, bending, etc and through a decent tube amp considering all that analog gear I see in the background. Almost any guitar can sound ok with enough gain especially using amp modeling. Very mild overdrive with tubes is a good test, or no overdrive and pushing the tubes will let the guitars' sound come through best. Thanks again.
This really seams like FF is the ONLY way that Gib can save themselfs. I'll take it . LOVE IT . GONNA BUY 10 Of them . FireFly Guitars.... I want a T-shirt
Great review on the firefly guitars, I'm a big American fan on guitars but have found myself buying. A few of these guitars and the quality is crazy esp for the price, are they perfect, no but are any guitars perfect, no there not even the over priced ones as well, a little bit of changes on these and there damn near perfect. I'm a fan now of them. I don't know how they can sell these at these ridiculas prices. I'll be buying more of them that's for sure, great backup guitars or even a main guitar. To all the guitar snobs well I use to be one, American only but that has changed over the years because the prices on high end guitars are crazy and there no different then these. They all need set up in order to sound right wether it's high end or low end guitars. Buy em up because there is no way these prices will stay like this, the quality is to good even if you have to change pickups or a nut or a bridge out, still worth it to me.
From 1976 to 1984 I owned and operated my own home multitrack professional tape-based studio as my primary source of income so I appreciate the numerous classic tape machines in the background. Is that a 3340S on the floor. I also appreciate your review as I just ordered but not yet received my FFLP. Thanks for presenting both sides. Helpful.
Thanks Donnie! My “normal” every day biz is transferring old multi tracks to digital, thus all the tape machines. And yes, that is a 3340s, good eye. Also thanks for appreciating what I also try to do, which is an honest and even handed review. I should get get tshirts made up that say: Hyperbole is the worst thing ever. But I just don’t think enough people would get the joke. Thanks for watching!
They just had a new batch of the FFLP's last week. They had like 12 different colors and sold out completely within about 48 hours. I got myself a gold top!
Just got 338 gold top waiting on new bridge, I'll probably get the fflp to I'm impressed with the tone these budget guitars have they all need a little work
I have the same guitar with Austin Label... It does not need any dressing to the frets because it is a bound neck the fit-and-finish on these guitars if you were blindfolded and handed an Epiphone Les Paul set neck you could not tell the difference until you strumned it through a good tube amp. The pickups in mine are awesome, the weight is less than a typical Les Paul because it is a mahogany body. The paint and the fit-and-finish on my goal top is excellent. Electronics are dime pots in the switch is solid these can be changed to dime Bjorn pots they mounted the holes to close to the inside edges of the cavity to go to full size pots. I paid 246 bucks for mine and even at that price this guitar is worth it. The hell with chibsons...you can also get these under Amazon with other names, Glen Burton, Oscar Schmidt, etc...they are solid instrument that can be pro setup and rock out for years... I joined a waiting list at Firefly to get my hands on one of these!!! Thanks for your review Great Video!
149 $ and you get a perfectly fine L/P copy that plays, sounds and looks great. Meanwhile,Gibson is promoting a new Slash signature series, where every model is ridiculously overpriced, has shitty quality control (watch Trogly´s video on the new Slash signature model) and Slash´s most iconic guitar (the AfD Les Paul),isn´t even an "authentic" Gibson.
Like others on here, I am checking daily for my FF338 to show up again, I think it’s been almost a month since I’ve seen them for sale. Found one on Guitar Center’s site, but they wanted $50 more than originally sold for w/o upgrades of course! Almost ready to pull the plug on this whole endeavor...
I got an Epi that was a total P.O.S. Half the frets were up, the jack was crammed into a too small hole and I couldn't even get a cable into it because it bent the tangs. The action was almost 5mm with the bridge all the way down, and the neck had a broken screw....
hello there! i subscribed to your channel jsut now due to your honest evaluation of the firefly guitar, i know i have seen some of the other comments on here already, but it does sound good, and looks good, but what i would be interested in is the " feel", and since you play and others that do also, know what i mean, my only hang up is that i play a Gretsch 5435 and well, i got to say i think not only does it play better than a LP but also i compare all other guitars to it, that is my hang up tho, but thank you for the upload!
Nice review, I was interested in your t shirt, thought it was flying colours then I realised its morsefest, must have been a great gig with flying courts and NMB.
I thought the same but kept looking and picked up a red 338 as soon as I saw them restocked...I'll be patient and get the green or blueberry burst fflp when they're back in stock
It takes patience and luck to find firefly guitars available...I was very pleased with the red 338 I purchased. I was going to get the ffth but these fflps are nice looking. Being a novice player I'm not putting hundreds into a single guitar. I have had a few of the $300 to $500 epiphones that were great, but my firefly 338 is just as nice and came very playable at $139.
Where are you buying these firefly guitars? This video is only 2 hrs old, and everytime I do a search for a firefly guitar, it takes me to Amazon, who tryst to sell me a Grote brand for more money. I really wanted the semihollow you reviewed once, everytime no dice. I can't find them anywhere. I'm in the St Louis MO area. Love your videos keep up the good work! I really liked the one on how to wax pot a microphonic pickup.
Jack Plaggenberg Jack that’s the problem! They are being bought days ago. No you tuber is giving a heads up when there in stock. They seem too busy or too greedy. I search every day multiple times. Guitar garden never pulled up. I had to scroll 2 pages before it was mentioned.
There ia such a huge hype over the brand for whatever reason and many buyers scoop up multiples at a time. There also are scalpers who flip them on ebay, and with limited supplies it becomes difficult to get one with such short availability windows. In a year from now the hype will die down me thinks.
I'm with you on the complaints. My only real concern is that the fretboard inlays are ever so slightly smaller than the engraved slot. visually almost impossible to notice unless your nose is directly on the board. otherwise its fine
You are right the neck pickup sounds great! Too bad they are out of stock. I did get a 338 on Amazon about 3 weeks ago. I’m going to be doing almost the same modifications as you did to yours but with a roller bridge and slightly different pickups and tuning keys that fit without drilling.
You Sir give a fantastic reasonable review. I own a 338 and a FFLP classic gold top........and I am a bassist LOL ! With a little TLC these guitars are a great value.
I love value guitars as long as they play well and have low action. The bad fret would have me returning this guitar. But I’m willing to give one a try. Already have the firefly double cut P90’s one in white and a red semi-hollowbody 335 version firefly. 👍
Can't decide between the blueberry burst or lizard burst...when they're in stock I might have to get both...lol...especially if the price stays at $149
The cheap guitars these days are great for kids starting out. Did not have cheap beginners guitars like these available when I started playing in the 1990s.
Looks beautiful my question how does it feel? I know some of the budget guitars can look awesome and play decent but they feel like a toy and no weight to them.. and yes I’m one of those guys that likes the feel of a heavy non weight relieved les Paul.. just curious. And I like the fact you point out the flaws .. just more info for anyone wanting to buy one I don’t take it as you complaining it’s obvious you enjoy the guitar
Great reveiw. I'm planning to get one of these, how is the playablilty of the guitar? Are the strings easily bendalbe? are the action low enough? I really value playability of les pauls so.. how is it?
My FFLP arrived loaded with 010's (10 - 46). The action was high, perfect for me. Actually, the end nut was notched a bit on the high side. Some frets need polishing. But that's it. Your Firely can be adjusted, modded, tweaked, whatever. The FFLP compares only to Gibson, vintage Gibson. It doesn't matter where it was made other than there's a chance that it was made by Chinese slave labor, as is my Glarry $90 bass.
(High end) Gibson > Firefly > Epiphone If Firefly could figure out how to mass produce their guitars without sacrificing current QC, they would be an Epiphone killer. For the price point you should be willing to put in a little "elbow grease" and you've got yourself a fantastic playing Les Paul. Very easy to customize however you want and no massive issues like you would get from other guitars in the same price range (I'm looking at you Squier). The finish on these FF guitars are just mind blowing. Hands down the best budget Gibson clones on the market. Got myself a redburst FFLP. After throwing on some locking tuners with a Hipshot drop D tuner and swapping out the bridge pup (personal preference; the FF pup was fine), I've got myself a workhorse guitar I've played a few gigs with and nobody knows the difference except the occasional hypercritical local "musician" with a nasty case of brand loyalty snobbery. Compared to my $3,000 Les Paul Custom, my Firefly is about 95% as good. That 5% difference is not "heard" so much as "felt" by anyone listening, which is why I use it on the highlight songs of the night. The less chances my Les Paul has of getting beer spilled on it or some drunk asking if they could play it because "I play guitar, too" ... the better. It only took one scare of an @sshole jumping around like an idiot nearly smacking the headstock against the wall while trying to show off "sweet guitar stage moves" to make me realize guitar strap locks and saying "no" are two incredibly important things to have. If my FF gets f*cked up because of some idiot, I can get another one. I can't afford to replace my nice Les Paul all the time. I can get 10 nice sounding Firefly guitars for the price of one Les Paul Custom.
I almost got the same guitar, same color, but I really don't like the control knob placement. I don't quite know why but I can't quite get over it I know it's super ticky tack, but I'll wait a bit and see if the quality remains high and if they change the position eventually.
I bought one of these. I have 3 other Firefly guitars as well. My FFLP had a significant blemish along the binding so I requested a return and refund. The Guitar Garden seems to use the Chinese "business model" so after sending pictures of the blemish they agreed to accept the return and paid for return shipping along with the purchase price but would not refund the $20 I paid for shipping on the original order. So it cost me $20 to receive and return a blemished guitar. Not right. The guitar itself was good and looked great other than the blemish. The pickups are nothing special and the hardware was okay, not great. The playability was good and the cosmetics were good, other than the blemish. For the money it's a pretty good deal if you get a good one. I would suggest buying only through Amazon if you want proper customer service regarding any problem you might have.
These guitars amaze me! I build guitars for a hobby and I cant build one like that for that price. Even buying the cheapest hardware available. I'm sure, a few taps from the fretting hammer will take care of that high fret.👍😎🎸🎶
@@TheTapeFarm That's awesome! Ya can't beat the price of those Firefly's. If I didn't have too many guitars already, I'd order one as soon as they're back in stock.👍😎🎸🎶
JMO but I think China has been making them just long enough to get a little too comfortable and lazy about making good guitars. Indonesia has passed them by, and if China doesn’t wake up, Vietnam is ready to jump up next.
My Firefly FFLP gets tones that are only rivaled by vintage Les Pauls, ala Mick Taylor. It's an apples to apples comparison because my amps are early to mid '70s Ampegs. I have a' 78 Gibson Les Paul Standard, but I haven't played that fella since getting my Firefly. I bought the Firefly because of its tonal capabilities and because of the guitar's weight (much more weight than the butchered weight-relief Gibson Les Pauls that currently plague Gibson) and because of the FFLP's playability and because of the fat neck. Rather than use the misleading phraseology, "The FFLP is a wonderful guitar for $149...." or, "The FFLP is a great guitar *considering that* it's only $149..." No. Being accurate in the wording, "The Firefly FFLP is a great guitar AND it's only $149." Mine was closer to $200 and it has more than 20x its value as a world class instrument with a world class sound. I wasn't able to guage the sound of the FFLP in this video. Perhaps open string chords and bar chords are not as good as single-noting a line for the purposes of hearing how the guitar breaths. We're hearing the sound of the amp more than the tone of the guitar, in my opinion. The bottom line is that the FFLP is an amazing find, an amazing guitar to own, to play, to listen to (pending the acumen of your playing and the type of music you're putting forth). The guitar is worth owning, especiallyat a price that's many times les than a Gibson Les Paul. Gibson continues to chase its tail trying to capture what used to be Les Paul ala '58 -'60. The Firefly FFLP somehow managed to get it. To my ears, the tone of the Firefly FFLP is the holy grail in electric guitar sound. I did mention Mick Taylor as a reference point, right?
I know that Firefly is charging in the $150 range for this guitar, but what is this guitar worth? Is it equivalent to a $1,000 guitar? What is the dollar amount of a guitar that it's equal to?
I have the 2020 FFLP, replaced the bridge with schecter and pots and pickups with seymore duncan. also had 2 high frets at 13 and 14. now I prefer it to my S series Ibanez.
Call it what it is. A Chibson with a slightly different headstock and a Firefly logo. The Chinese are getting better at making their guitars. At $149 though I'd buy one.
What do you expect for under $200 , my goodness you sit there and complain about such a cheap guitar. Come on why point out the flaws on such low price guitar. What did you expect. Perfection!!! I am joking with you!!! Ha ha ha. Thanks for the video and your time putting it together.
8:50 It clearly bothered me enough, that I can't get myself to buy one. Love the color and the clear knobs, but the placement makes it look like a half assed toy.
@@DougHinVA $169 with S/H and $3 worth of larger chinese pots? It's my OCD and I don't know if I'd laugh every time I looked at it, or kick myself for buying it. I'd concider one for half price as a beater, maybe.
The flame is a veneer for sure… but there is a maple cap on top of the mahogany. And then a flame maple veneer on top of that. And yes the back is also a veneer to make it appear as one piece of wood.
I really like your reviews of the Firefly and any TWAT who talks shit about 'em probably can't play! I appreciate your video and the effort you took to make it. Was this available in any other colours? They must be out of them because there are no LPs at all on Amazon. If you got a minute, peruse my channel and I think you might like it!
Yes you can, go to guitar gardens. You can only go to their site and view their stock during “business hours” after that time when you go to their site there’s no products available. I just bought one 5 days ago
Got one myself last weekend and you are spot on with your review. I had ordered a cherry burst but received what looks more like a tobacco burst but over the last couple of days it’s grown on me. How long did it take to receive it after you placed your order
My FFLP took between 2 - 3 weeks to arrive. It's shipped in the flimsiest cardboard box, only China is capable of such lousy cardboard.
I have a 2020 Firefly FFLP classic Blueberry burst with triple humbuckers and loving it.
And the nut is bone 🦴
grabbed a bloodburst FFLP. wanted the green one but missed out. my first firefly. very impressed. time to tune her up and break it in!
hey tim..i got the olive from the 1st run and the red widow lp from the last run....they both are killer

I hope they make a copy of the Gibson SG i had to sell mine and it's bothered me ever since
Harley Benton makes a high quality SG type, worth checking out, they’re under $200.
That little dimple would be completely forgotten after a good gig for me! I'd have dozens of new ones of them afterwards! LOL
The cheap guitars these days are great for kids starting out. Did not have cheap beginners guitars like these available when I started playing in the 1990s.
Not just for kids starting out, for experienced and gigging musicians as well, with some adjustments.
There are issues with non budget instruments as well.

You're right. That neck pick up is astounding! But dude! You got a couple of specks of lint on your shirt!
I almost got the same guitar, same color, but I really don't like the control knob placement. I don't quite know why but I can't quite get over it
I know it's super ticky tack, but I'll wait a bit and see if the quality remains high and if they change the position eventually.
I have a first run Olive FFLP. Rare.
I have a Firefly FFLP classic Blueberry burst with triple humbuckers.
How’s the truss rod on these? Would you say it’s as good or better than an Epiphone LP
Sounds so good !!!
These guitars amaze me! I build guitars for a hobby and I cant build one like that for that price. Even buying the cheapest hardware available. I'm sure, a few taps from the fretting hammer will take care of that high fret.👍😎🎸🎶
74dart man it did. Fret is now seated.
@@TheTapeFarm That's awesome! Ya can't beat the price of those Firefly's. If I didn't have too many guitars already, I'd order one as soon as they're back in stock.👍😎🎸🎶
on 10/13 all but 4 guitars are sold out
I would expect good China LP's since they have been making Epiphones for some time haha
Sounds sweet
Can you get this on Amazon??
Steven Carbone not right now, they’ve been sold out for a couple months.
Check daily or you'll miss them...jump on it quick when restocked
James, no LP’s but Amazon has 4 different models right now. Bought a tele and the third to last red DCD yesterday.
Still have this?
I sold it and bought one of the newer versions: ua-cam.com/video/6C0w3RxILJI/v-deo.html
Nice camera and sound. The guitar is fat enough and still has the top punch. Sounds like a keeper.
These videos are a two edge sword.
"Hey great guitar $149"
Go to site... *SOLD OUT*
Thanks.
I love my green burst. It's a great looking guitar. It needed some setup but once done it Rocks the House.
Call it what it is. A Chibson with a slightly different headstock and a Firefly logo. The Chinese are getting better at making their guitars. At $149 though I'd buy one.
If one wants a Les Paul, buy a Gibson.
Even then ,you won't get a perfect Les Paul.
Cheap is good with a little TLC.
What do you expect for under $200 , my goodness you sit there and complain about such a cheap guitar. Come on why point out the flaws on such low price guitar. What did you expect. Perfection!!!
I am joking with you!!! Ha ha ha. Thanks for the video and your time putting it together.
Daniel Mann this guy gets it.
8:50 It clearly bothered me enough, that I can't get myself to buy one. Love the color and the clear knobs, but the placement makes it look like a half assed toy.
150 bucks and full sized pots and is a well made guitar ? get real
@@DougHinVA $169 with S/H and $3 worth of larger chinese pots? It's my OCD and I don't know if I'd laugh every time I looked at it, or kick myself for buying it. I'd concider one for half price as a beater, maybe.
I can appreciate that. That’s why I made it point to show it. I knew that might be a deal breaker for some folks. Thanks for watching!
niiice
already sold out, they are always sold out at Amazon. I'm sick of being teased.
Try Thomann from Germany and look up Harley Benton guitars... I’ve purchased 4 already and small amp (40) amp ..totally blown away__
j d pollard I have a HB 12 string. It’s outstanding. They make really great stuff and it is readily available.
But is it good??
Maple Cap??? Na, ah.
My understanding is that it's Just the Body and the Veneer.
Veneers actually... both top and bottom.
The flame is a veneer for sure… but there is a maple cap on top of the mahogany. And then a flame maple veneer on top of that. And yes the back is also a veneer to make it appear as one piece of wood.
There is a very plane maple cap n a veneer seen videos of people taking it apart can see the cap in the route job
😎👍🏼
Be it's sold out
I really like your reviews of the Firefly and any TWAT who talks shit about 'em probably can't play! I appreciate your video and the effort you took to make it. Was this available in any other colours? They must be out of them because there are no LPs at all on Amazon. If you got a minute, peruse my channel and I think you might like it!
Probably those in the 300 to 500 range from Epiphone and Squire.
Always out of stock everywhere....sooooooo stupid
People are like crack addicts with these cheap guitars, relax everyone
Click bait you can't get fire flys anymore
Yes you can, go to guitar gardens. You can only go to their site and view their stock during “business hours” after that time when you go to their site there’s no products available. I just bought one 5 days ago
Pea green. 🤢
That’s fair. To each his own.
@@TheTapeFarm Still a good deal! 😁
Thanks for the review!
