I have had some gnarly experience with the river shorebreak combo, but this session looks like next level. I probably wouldn’t have even attempted this session.
I'm stunned you are allowed to do this. Anything that Awesome is always stopped by the adults. Much respect! One of the coolest things I have ever seen
In California something like this would be frowned upon because of the toxicity and pollution of a lot of the creeks/rivers that lead to the ocean. Especially in more populated areas like Southern California. But here it’s not a big deal. With how often it rains in Hawaii and with Waimea Bay being a major outlet for the islands water runoff, something like this would happen on its own without human intervention. And with the large surf swells that cycle here throughout the year, the beach is naturally rebuilt and kept in sync
New in the last few years of surfing, but longtime kayaker. Need a life vest or at least a big rescue rig. Flush drowning and huge recirculating hydraulics can definitely ruin the day. Glad no one drowned. Super entertaining though and that wave jaime go on that skim board was epic.
Met this guy in Mexico, he a kind sole. Took the time to take pics with me even tho he was out going to dinner with his girl. He's just like the videos no fake new here!! Thanks JOB for taking time to make my day!! Stoked!
I used to work at the Falls in the early 70's. We would dig out a channel for the water to drain because we would be flooded at the park. The river has emptied into the bay forever and when certain conditions come together a channel needs to be dug. The shore break closes river mouth with sand, heavy rainfall up Valley, raging falls, then flooding at the park. Stop with the "environmental " comments...this is Mother Nature people.
Jamie really appreciate how your super excited to hit the river and still took the time to take the selfie with your fans. Ambassador of north shore and during as a whole. 💜🕉🙏🏼
So rad , quick story, in 1983 me kalohe Bloomfield, Jason majors and Erin graberick did exactly that and almost died!! We dug it out with 10 foot shore break and a flash flood river like that. Much respect and luv your show🤙🏽💪
I just got back from Hawaii. It was so neat to see this place in person, unfortunately the river was low that day. The water was beautiful though and I will never forget this magical place.

Definitely a dangerous day on the river. Class five rapids with large waves coming in from the ocean the whole time sucking you out to sea. I could see how someone could get killed this day. Good thing everyone ended up ok.
I feel bad for everyone the never warn of doing this, you can see hundreds of people unable to walk back to their cars because of them doing this every time
