One of my most traumatic memories of growing up as a witness was a conversation with my dad. I was 8 years old, and my dad thought that during the great tribulation, witness would basically be put in concentration camps. He was describing what it would be like and went on to tell me that I would probably be raped. My father had his own issues with mental illness, but also, what a crazy religion.
I served for over 65 years and it was the new light that shone a bright light on The Truth which I loved and defended but sadly my eyes have been opened

This talk was definitely weird, but Herd has always been off his rocker anyways.
The Jehovah's Witnesses told my parents when they were in their youth, that they were never going to die and live in paradise on earth with friendly lions and tigers. They served the Watchtower for 60 years, and both are dead as doornails. What a waste of life.
Never been a witness but I've been educating myself about the organisation for the last 9 months or so. We had a couple come to the house and I got curious about what they actually believe. Currently listening to crisis of conscious.
What they tell the public about their doctrines and beliefs is very very different from what they teach and demand of their members. It is a cult.
What current members are blissfully unaware of, is their dubious past, because that varies from whitewashed to swept under the rug.
@@c.runpixierun2537 I see groups stood by little stands in town at the weekends, I never get approached, but I'm assuming it's because I wear alot of black and have a beard. It would be interesting to talk to them though.

Ex JW here, born in and still needing therapy after leaving what feels like a lifetime ago! I have watched several Ex JW UA-camrs and you are reasonable, researched and entertaining! My 'simple' answer to this complex issue is that all this is coming from writings that are translations of translations of translations, done over different time periods. Language is a living and changing entity. As such, none of the Truth can be assumed to be true. We must examine all of the lenses, which I think that you do. Yes, you ramble at times and are snarky, so what! Keep being you and doing your research and folks (instead of guys :-) will keep on watching!
Well their adjustments are actually so detailed and technical that it even confuses the brothers of Christ. Wow I'm soooo glad we have this governing body to keep us informed. What would we do without them. I shutter to think......

We don't have the slightest idea of what happened to John the son of Zebedee in his later life other than Church legends (from the Apostate Church btw). And it's painfully clear that the unschooled fisherman from Galilee didn't know Greek or how to write, yet the Gospel is the most philosophical, elite sounding book in the NT. It's easy to argue that this book, along with many of the last books of the Canon, already show a major shift from Jesus' and Paul's apocalyptic, doomsday message and informal church structure. We are also quite certain that the John (a very common name) who wrote Revelation wasn't the same person who wrote the other Books, because of his crude Greek and different style. And we know the Biblical Canon was hotly contested in the following centuries, especially books like 2 and 3 John and Revelation partly because of their obscure origins. The final form of the canon was ironed out and copied by the "Apostate" church. Without them, we would have no Bible. So get off your high horse and read a book that isn't from the 19th century for once!

It's interesting to notice that the only actual difference between the Governing body of Jws and that of the Mormons, is that the LDS church just doesn't use that term, but instead speaks about apostles and prophets ruling their church. Mormons also have the concept of the "New Light", just without that specific reference to Proverbs 4:18. One of the most famous of these new "revelations" was the removal of the ban for black people to be allowed to go inside their temples and getting the priesthood, in 1978.
Actually, in a sense, they are more Biblical in this issue, if you will: As Ephesians 4:11, when speaking about various spiritual callings, it does mention apostles and prophets. But, does it tell us that one of these callings is just being "a member of the faithful and discreet slave aka. the Governing body"? As far as I recall, such offices are nowhere to have been mentioned in the Greek scriptures. The members of the highest rank were the apostles. But, while the LDS do admit, they are being led by apostles, so why don't JWs do the same? Because LDS officially believe in continuing revelation, which God gives to these guys on the regular basis. So, they are officially "inspired".
JWs on the other hand, simultaneously deny and accept the doctrine of on-going revelation(in Orwellian way), because the canon of the Scriptures is officially closed, but meanwhile, they totally accept the Apostolic role of the GB, demanding from the witnesses the same 100% obedience and acceptance of their words, ( if not even more strictly as the apostles did in many instanses in the first century!) as the first century apostles did, albeit without ever admitting it or saying it aloud. The GB, indeed, has been "appointed over his domestics, to give them their food at the proper time". as it regularly gets new light and understanding as to correct possibly former erroneous doctrines and policies, doesn't it?

If they are THE Channel for getting new doctrines and spiritual information/-food from Jehovah God, today, isn't that exactly what the word "inspired" means? why do they want to distance themselves from that "inspired" aspect? -Because, while they don't want to carry the responsibility of being "truly inspired" in the Org.'s doctrinal flip-flops and false prophecies, they still want to keep that unquestionable position of honor and power, by claiming to be "THE only channel" Btw, it's kind of funny that while LDS leaders have always been called prophets and apostles by their Church, and they also have changed many of their doctrines pretty much like the WTS, they are and always have been said to be inspired. They just aren't "infallible". 😅
