    A Victorinox Huntsman was presented to me some 30 years ago. And it had been heavily used, red skin became full of scratches, main blade bent and worn. Then one day, it disappeared somewhere and I couldn't find it. About an year ago, I found it under the floor. The aluminum linings of the knife was starting corroded and the blade won't open. Nevertheless I decided to restore it. After some cleanings, polishings, blade sharpening and oiling jobs, the Huntsman resurrected. Now It looks beautiful RED and functions OK, and I believe it will serve me another twenty years, only if I don't loose it again. It is a good Knife.

    I have used my Mountaineer (same as Huntsman but with a metal saw/file instead of the wood saw) since the early 1980's. Still in great shape !!!

    I have carried on since I was a F/F EMT then as a Police officer from 1981 till. I have lost 1, had one borrowed and not returned. I'm on my third in 40 years. I love the saw and the screw driver mostly. It's always in my pocket.

    • @runplatypus
      @runplatypus  2 роки тому

      Yes sometimes people borrow stuff and forget to return them. 😊 Yes the saw is really great on these, i use to cut branches and some fine cutting on plywood, very durable too. Thanks for watching! ✌🏽

    I've had quite a few over the years. For the small-to-medium knives the Huntsman is my favorite.
    I also have a spartan a climber, camper, craftsman and the swiss champ.

    Used my huntsman for 3 years now, been through some heavy jobs. Only thing that broke is the scissors spring, probably due to metal fatigue. Very high quality indeed and for a good price too!

    • @runplatypus
      @runplatypus  2 роки тому

      You can order online and get those springs replaced. 😊 Thanks for watching. 👍🏽

    • @Dragon64646
      @Dragon64646 2 роки тому +1

      Yes, absolutely correct. My everyday pocket knive is as well the Huntsman. If you use the scissors often, the spring will break after some time. The spring is the only weak part. I still have the alox model of my military service, dated 1985. It still works. And we used it daily in the service. Victorinox offers you Swiss made quality. Every knive leaving the production in Ibach is sharpened and at the end controlled by employees. They put f.e. the toothpick by hand into the SAK (with white gloves). They are the best. Greetings from 🇨🇭.

    Its the most ideal EDC for me. I have been using it for 7 years and have the scales banged up pretty well. I am taking it to the shop for plus scale replacement so now I could add a pen to it. The can opener driver is very good. Managed to install a switch into a rack with it. Scissors are excellent but the spring is a bit banged up by now. I could also get replacement for it, but I manged to take it out and bend it a little, so now it works again. I got a Skeletool go go with it for Christmas.

    I have one SAK that I use every day I don’t know how old it is,even the Shield 🛡 rubbed off but is as good as new…If you are looking for pocket knife that will last you for lifetime and police won’t arrest you for it,than the choice is clear,,,SAK. Of any type or model…

    Could have used some narration, but thank you. We need more reports on how a knife worked out after a few years of hard use. Videos of shiny new knives being unboxed are useless.👍

    After 32 years of use my tweezer side red plastic separated and I lost tweezer. Rest of the knife still is in Tip-Top condition. It was my pocket knife for everyday use and I am still using it ( apply liquid nail to stick the plastic, still need a tweezer ).

    Happy Sunday RP. I have Liked your video & Subscribed, I am Subscriber #97. The 91mm Huntsman is IMO the best all round SAK that is pocket carriable . I own 4, one of which is a collectable & the other 3 are in my PTK ( Pocket Tool Kit ) rotation along with the 85mm EvoGrip S17 & S18 which are basically the Delmont range equivalent of the Huntsman
    All my 3 rotation Huntsman have been upgraded by me with the addition of Plus scales in different colors ( Sapphire blue, Rubi red & black ) the replacement of the toothpick with the Firefly ferro rod, the addition of an orange tinder spiral & the mini-screwdriver on the corkscrew & I've fit 2 of them ( so far ) the blue & the black with the SwissQlip for easy pocket carry as I dislike pouches & paracords although I have put the small Victorinox lanyard on some of my knives such as the S17 & S18 & Cadets which I carry in the ticket pocket of my jeans.

    • @runplatypus
      @runplatypus  3 роки тому +1

      Greatly appreciated your like and subscription! I totally agree with you the huntsman is indeed the best pocketable SAK, even fits the small pocket in my jeans. The tools are perfect for my needs. You have quite the collection there, i think they are all great choices! 👍🏽 I only have 3 SAKs 2 huntsmen and a non pocketable stay in my bag Work Champ. 👍🏽

    • @stevesinclair4159
      @stevesinclair4159 3 роки тому

      @@runplatypus I considered buying the Work Champ / Swiss Champ but its too big to carry & its expensive, besides I don't need the duplication of tools as I already have on my computer desk at home the Deluxe Tinker, the Explorer, the Mountaineer & even the rare & discontinued Motorist all in excellent condition and fitted with Plus scales . I am a lifelong user & collector of SAKs & have a large collection of them especially special edition 93mm Pioneers & Pioneer X's plus year end & limited edition 91mm SAKs as collectables. My daily right pocket fixed EDC is the Midnite Manager on my keychain as it has an LED & a pen, then I choose either a Gentleman's knife from my collection of 93mm Pioneers, X's, 84mm Cadets in the ticket pocket of my jeans or the larger 111mm Garant for my left pocket. If I need a PTK ( Pocket Tool Kit ) that day then I forgo the Gentleman's knife & either carry a 91mm Huntsman with a SwissQlip or the 85mm EvoGrip S17 or S18 which just about fits in the ticket pocket. When I am not wearing Jeans I carry the Pioneers & Cadets in a Skai ( imitation leather ) slip in my pocket so that they don's scratch up against other pocket items.

    That sucker also comes with a small screwdriver part of the corkscrew too I don't know why they keep forgetting to put that in there but you could also get it with the a feral rod and some tinder which is only enough to start one fire but I don't see why they can't even show that I'm in the huntsman is a versatile Victorian acts knife but yet they forget a lot of things that go with that or can be put in that the feral rod would take place of the toothpick which out in the field what the hell you need a toothpick for tweezers I can see a toothpick I don't know

    How often have you sharpened it? I am just curious.

    • @runplatypus
      @runplatypus  2 роки тому +1

      Rarely, i've sharpened probably 5 to 6 times with 1000 grit stone. I have bigger knives for heavier tasks, the hunstman blade i use for smaller tasks. Victorinox blades hold their edge quite well. 👍🏽

    • @adamzzz5061
      @adamzzz5061 2 роки тому

      @@runplatypus Thank you for your answer :D
      Really appreciate it.
      By the way, did you sharpen it using 15 or 20 degree angle?
      I also have a whetstone but I am not really good at sharpening with it so I wonder if I could use "Any Sharp" sharpener which has 20 degree angle because I don't want to ruin my Victorinox blade.

    Victorinox Swiss Army, does not make a Wood Carving knife that has two carving blades, a saw, and a large roughing blade. Blades that have 58 or better Rockwell hardness or 440 or better stainless steel. Just three slots (not sure what they are called) handles. that are rounded for comfort, with locking blades. Folded no more than 3 1/2 inches long. If all the carvers out there will unite and keep bugging Vicky about it, I am sure they will listen.
