whats really sad is in a lot of these instances, the elements that were advertised (Chaos and Shadow bosses in Forces, the day night cycle in 06, the 2 additional islands in Frontiers, etc) were supposed to be in the final games but had to be cut due to time constraints. The real issue is Sega rushing these games out undercooked before they can even deliver on what's being advertised.
I have ZERO clue why companies keep rushing and underpaying their employees to make a buggy, unfinished mess as opposed to giving devs the time and resources they need to make a product people ACTUALLY want to pay for
To be fair, that's how most entertainment products are made, with various revisions and features that end up being cut for one or another reason. You'd be hard pressed to find a game or even film that has nothing cut or altered.
@@snakey888 That is a really good point but I don’t think that’s why games like 06 are so buggy. If memory serves, all of the cutscenes that don't involve the avatar in Sonic Forces are pre-rendered, despite using the in-game models. Because of this, Chaos has no model in the files of Sonic Forces. In-engine cutscenes are generally smaller than video files, and games usually only use video files for CGI cutscenes. I'm no expert, but the fact that the game's cutscenes work like that just shows how slap-dash some of it was.
Also a fun fact, the Hedgehog Engine, which first premiered with Sonic Unleashed, was supposed to be used with Sonic 06 first but couldn't due to time constraints and the fac that Sega split the entire team in half to develop Sonic and the Secret Rings for the Wii because it couldn't run Sonic 06
Don’t forget that in Sunset Heights’ gameplay trailer, the video cuts off right before the in-game end goal of the stage to try and trick viewers into believing that was about the halfway point of the stage, only to play the game and find out that was actually just right where the stage ends.
One other thing about forces, a lot of the levels they showed off they would cut off the start of the level to make you think you were half way through to hide how short the stages were

I’ll never forget when Sega hinted at ALOT of awesome things they were adding to Sonic Forces, with most of them either being underwhelming or complete lies
Sonic 3D Blast is a 3D game with 2D graphics. You can't turn the camera, but the game objects can pass over each other without colliding, unlike in Doom, where two objects will collide if their X & Y coordinates match, regardless of how far apart the Z position is on-screen. How is sonic generstions not a remaster? It's an enhanced port of the game released over a decade after the original. That's the litteral definition of a remaster. Do you have "remaster" confused with "remake"
If Sonic games stopped having terrible development cycles, then maybe we could have gotten what we were promised. It so sad that most games in the series didn’t live up to their own expectations due to unfortunate circumstances. Hopefully the next mainline game will have a much smoother development.
Oh they better deliver! Because after the huge success of sonic frontiers you may heard of these news possibly such as: 1.Sega give sonic team a much higher bigger budget and hiring more developers for sonic team(more budget, manpower and talent) 2. Sonic frontiers 2 is going to have a bigger budget (the sequel) 3. A super game with the budget of 800,000,000 dollars going to get release in 2026 (which god damn... that's alot) 4. Apparently they have a new quality improvement system now..which I saw in an article and Midori herself(one of the most credible leaker in the sonic community) also talked about this whole quality focus system Sega has. So it appears that Sega has plans and a vision for the future and they better deliver and I'm expecting some good quality games in the future. And I'm not holding the bar for sonic low either after what I saw so yeah..they better deliver.
Sega should have gotten sued for the false advertising on 06. And on top of that, the manual for 06 says there's a "shield" item, which isn't even present in the "final" version.
A lot of games, especially back then, showed a ton of pre release and alpha footage of their games in very different states. There are a ton of games back then which show lots of features that never made it into the final game whether it be graphical effects that were cut due to performance reasons or gameplay options. Also you forget Sonic 06 was not only rushed to market by Sega but also had it's development team cut in half in the middle of development
@@crestofhonor2349 I think games like sonic 06,sonic 4(even though you can tell it's low budget and low effort) and rise of lyrics pretty much faced this fate the other games that are bad such as secret rings and shadow the hedgehog are bad for very other reasons
@user-vt6dd4kz5t the thing is sonic 4 uses rush physics which wouldn't work in a game that is meant to work like a classic sonic game, the rush engine is meant for games that play like... well, sonic rush (with features like advance's boost mode and r move, and rush's boost and trick system)
4:53 I don't think they necessarily meant the team behind those games, and yes while misleading I think they meant to hype you for a return to formula because those said games were boost titles, and because the previous game was Lost World they most likely figured going back to what worked is what fans would've liked hence the acknowledgement of Colors and Generations.
0:47 SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS is a remaster though. A remaster is a rerelease of an old game with a few touch-ups here and there, and that's exactly what that game is. 4:54 To be fair, it says the TEAM behind Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations, not the people. While it's not specifically false advertising, I think it definitely is still meant to be misleading. Also, including Chaos in the trailers isn't false advertising, as it's absolutely in the final game.
In the Sonic Origins commercial, the phrase about “New Playable Characters” meant that you can play as those characters you couldn't in the original games (Tails and Knuckles in Sonic 1 and Tails in Sonic CD). The phrase is certainly loud, but it's understandable why they said so in the commercials. Fans won't consider these playable characters, but Sega was trying to market the game as a new experience for old fans who don't follow every game in the series (I think). Anyway, I'm glad Sonic Origins got fixed after a while and now it's not a bad compilation, but it's still expensive. Well, and I think that it is better in addition to fan ports that there would be official releases. I think that Origins is NOT useless, because I can't run decompilations, and only Sonic 3 AIR works properly. S1 Forever and S2 Absolute I don't like because of the weird new features. I've been wanting an official compilation like this for a long time with my favorite ports from 2011-2013. It's just like saying “Why an official Doom remaster if there is GZDoom”, although both ports make sense and for different purposes.
I'm sorry but... What? ☠️ This entire video boils down to either "I don't like this game" or "this game didn't meet my expectations", no false advertising 5 minutes into it. @KOTSOSMC2002 Forces did have some false/misleading advertising in the sense that they claimed it was from the same team that brought us Sonic Colors and Generations when it technically wasn't. They used that as a blanket statement for Sonic Team when most of the team that actually worked on the game was new staff and some Colors designers like Kishimoto, because by this point any leftover Generations staff were making Mario and Sonic games
@@KOTSOSMC2002 well the thing about false advertising is that it doesn’t have to be a different game. Many parts of what was promised just didn’t appear. For example, that day night cycle was actually part of the E3 advertisement stated at the interview segment. Sonic 4 isn’t false advertisement imo.

For Sonic 3D Blast, even if the RENDERING is 2D, the GAME LOGIC is indeed 3D, as everything has values for x, y and z axis, which are then converted for the isometric projection
tbh alot of these I wouldnt call false advertising. Alot of this comes from development issues and company meddling. Especially in Sonic 06's case. Had to push out an early build because Microsoft wanted a holiday release. That and the development team was cut in half to work on a wii port. Which turned into Sonic and the secret rings.
this reminds me of something, earlier today,i was seeing the back of my xbox 360 copy of sonic '06 and i laughed at it because it said "over 10 action packed stages" and "10 formidable boss fights",this is false advertising at its its purest
Is it though? If I remember correctly, Sonic has 9 stages, while Silver and Shadow both have 8 each, so together it's more than 10. As for bosses, 1. Egg cerberus, 2. Egg Genesis, 3. Egg wyvern, 4. Iblis 1, 5. Iblis 2, 6. Iblis 3, 7. Mephiles, 8. Sonic, 9. Silver, 10. Shadow, 11. Solaris. Guess it is false, seeing as there are 11 bosses, and not 10.
@@snakey888 i think what they meant by that is that there are 10 different stage locations across every campaing, meaning that in every campaign there is wave ocean, kingdom valley, crisis city....etc,but this is still false advertising (btw you're 1 level off for each character, meaning that sonic has 10+tails wave ocean, shadow has 9+rouge tropical jungle, and silver has also nine but +blaze wave ocean ) as for the bosses though, you're right,or maybe they didn't count solaris which is kinda wierd because normaly we count the final boss in the bosses total

Okay am, I have problems with this video. Using Sonic 2006 as an example, trailers usually use preliminary or unfinished content or even content that never makes it to the game or final product, this is very common, it even happens with movies. This happened in 2006, preliminary and conceptual content was used, since the game was not finished and in general they were videos to show the concept of the game, which is the objective of these trailers. This also happens with Sonic Boom, it’s a normal practice, even Nintendo does it. Also... Sonic 4 is not a lie at all, yes... you may not like it but in itself, I consider them pretty "good" games, not perfect but… meh are kinda entertaining , but... beyond the problems, there is nothing wrong with them being called Sonic 4, for god's sake Rayman 2 does not look like the 1, it is only called Rayman 2 because it follows the first, that Sonic 4 is not identical to Sonic 1-3 does not mean anything, the story of the game makes it clear that this happens after Sonic 3 and follows the events of the previous games, so yes, it is Sonic 4. 5:39 No? I mean, yeah, it was disappointing and they wasted it bur they never said "Defeat all of Sonic's previous bosses" they just showed you that they would appear in the story, they didn't promise you anything. 5:53 They never say that, it’s like saying "In Sonic Mania they showed so much of Studiopolis that it implied it would be the first level", It is not "False Advertisement" if there is no Advertisement. 6:13 Yes, Sonic Forces' level design is very simple (LIKE COLORS), what does that have to do with the False Advertisement? 7:11 I feel this is unnecessary. 7:17 Ah… okay… just… talk about the false advertisement. 7:46 What… what does that mean? 7:57 Sonic Origins was intended to be an accessible entry for new fans coming from the movie or the modern games, as well as clarifying the history of the classic games and giving them a more polished continuity that didn't need external content to explain the story like manuals, I'm not saying Sonic Origins is perfect but it had a logical purpose. It also made accessible Sonic 3 & Knuckles which are (let's say 1 game to simplify) that have not received a port unlike the other 3 games and the only way to play it was through emulators. 8:03 *YEAH BUT THAT BECAUSE YOU’RE NOT THE TARGET AND ALSO, THE MAJORITY OF THE CASUAL PUBLIC DOESN’T PLAY ON PC* 8:53 I Mean… if we’re talking about lore… yes… there are only 3… if we’re talking about gameplay, yes there are 5… again, yes, maybe they were disappointing but… they are still 2 huge areas… explorable… by the way the idea of separating them was the best decision because if not, we would have an absurdly huge initial area and 2 tiny ones (in comparison) and to top it off, it would give performance problems, the idea of separating the first island into 3 was good since it balances the space of the islands and avoids the performance problems that it could give. 9:32 Mh, that's weird, I thought that's what Mania fans liked, grass and more grass, I guess it only works when it's Green Hill, btw the *FULL F/CKING 2 FINAL ISLANDS ARE A STORY FOCUS WHAT TF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT* I feel like this video has a very personal approach and not very general, it feels more like a "Things I don't like about Sonic" than a video about… False Advertisement in the Sonic franchise.
1:45 Btw, Sonic 3D Blast was a critical and financial subset in his era, this is not a complaint about the video itself, but I think many people don't know that… Sonic never had a “bad transition to 3D” his first 3D games (even counting 3D Blast even though technically it isn't 3D) in fact… they had a good reception by critics and sales, another fun fact is that most of those who say that Sonic only has bad games haven't played any Sonic games beyond Sonic 1-3 and Mania and they will always tell you that Sonic had to stick to 2D and that Mania has no mistakes and it’s a "perfect game", if someone tells you that, run, that guy doesn't wash himself.
the sonic colors ultimate part makes no sense, it's a Wii of course it's gonna have lower resolution plus like it's not even false advertising??? you're just assuming things???
Sonic Forces is still the most painful and egregious example of false advertising in a Sonic game for me. Imagine doing promos with a villain team-up, and only fighting 2/4 of the returning villains, not counting Eggman. And if you want to get pedantic, the Metal Sonic boss fight is the same as Infinite's third and final fight, so if you remove that, you only get a unique boss fight with Zavok. I wonder how they could've spent development resources if they just didn't include Classic Sonic (why is he even there?) and had Sonic Forces release the year after Sonic Mania. Sonic is already a yearly franchise, so why release two major games (Sonic Forces and Sonic Mania) in the same year?
Sonic at that point wasn't a yearly franchise because Boom happened, 2015 had no Sonic games and then after that one last game for that brand and we were back to yearly for a bit only for no releases in 2018 (was going to be TSR but they delayed it) and I'm wishing they delayed Forces by a year and gave it more time to cook because maybe both it and TSR could have been given more time to be great
Sonic 4 is definitely not a classic game, not in terms of gameplay (homing attack chains, and the plethora of dash pads make it more modern Sonic) or in terms of quality (it's not great and timeless game).
@@erioscorradetti1229 The main problem with the game mostly is the physics and game itself just looks cheap..I mean the sequel did fixed the issues the first one had including the physics and the world itself looked better buuut it still wasn't good enough sadly.
He never mentioned Traveler's Tales once when he was talking about Sonic 3D Blast, instead only mentions Sega, as if they developed the game themselves.
2:18 Its probably because they made the trailer before they could begin development on the game. That's could been a clue of how poorly 06 turned out in hindsight.
The thing I thought saved Origins was that the Mobile remakes were brought to Console, they reworked Sonic 3 & Knuckles with better animations and made better soundtracks for Super Sonic and the Final Boss defeated cutscene, as well as Sonic CD being console available for the first time since Sega consoles were discontinued. What was disappointing was they picked Game Gear Sonic Spinball instead of the Genesis version.
Funny thing, sonic origins was actually my first time experiencing sonic cd as well as Sonic 3 & knuckles. I also got the remastered Sonic colors ultimate because I wanted to try the game.
It's a remaster, I don't know why he said that. They just took a less is more approach with it and touched up things that were necessary like framerate and small things with the graphics
The matketing for frontiers in general was a mess. The ign month was awful, so awful that a nintendo direct showcased the game better. There was sega not letting people record or show off cyberspace (but people still did). And this led to the discovery that cyberspace was just recycled layouts
What if we lived in a timeline where Sonic Team DIDN'T split up during the development of Sonic 06? Would the game be a huge success or would it be average?
I'm surprised you didn't go over Sonic Heroes's false advertising. It was said in interviews that this would be Sonic "going back to his roots" after the escalation of the Adventure games. Of course, what actually happened was the release of a game that was by far the biggest departure from the classic games that we've seen thus far in most regards.
I kinda believe the theory that the version of Sonic 06 that was released was actually an earlier version of the game which is why in the manual it includes things which aren't actually in the game.
I mean, games often come with dated manuals, because they are made during production. I'm a GTA fan and the San Andreas manual has lots of beta bits and pieces such as the removed adrenaline pick ups from III/VC.
The hilarious part about Sonic 4 is you can still see them calling it "Sonic the Portable" in the background of some stages. That's FUNNY. That's really freaking hilarious and I still laugh about that years later. To think people initially defended the game saying it was just a modern take so "give it a chance".
Um, do you realize that isometric is by definition 3d? Even if it's rather primitive compared to Mario 64 or Crash Bandicoot, it literally has movement in three dimensions. It might use a set camera, but so do a number of 3d Playstation games, like Crash. It might also use prerendered graphics, but again, so did a number of 3d PS1 games, like Resident Evil (which also uses a set camera). So I dunno what arbitrary definition of 3d you're going by.
Sonic 4 is notalgic. I recently olayed through it again and I actually liked it that time at least a little. It gets too much hate. But Sonic 4 Episode 2 is superb.
I will never forgive Sonic Advance 2 for false advertising on the back of the box. It advertises the tiny chao garden, which was the whole reason I wanted the game. However, it did not tell you that you have to get the true ending of the game, which I heard after buying the game that it was tough as nails. It was the first time as a kid where I just only played the game once or twice before giving up on it.
Considering the fact sonic “4” literally takes zones from other games and also uses classic like music not to mention the game following the whole sonic 1 to 3 formula if anything the game should’ve been called Sonic Retro
still pisses me off that playable amy, and knuckles in cd is locked to the origins dlc, which is more expensive than the mania plus dlc that adds mighty and ray
Even if we're far from the era where sega rivalled nintendo, this really shows the difference between the two regarding project management. Nintendo were almost always happy to give their game projects the breathing room and even push release dates back to ensure a good final product while Sega was always rushing resulting in a mess come the finish line. Oh well. Gotta go fast, I guess.
They did say that Shadow and Chaos were going to be bosses and more bosses that exists in the game but different and other past old bosses from other Sonic games in the null space level were going to be added but they were scrap
Ok excume, the time travel is like a side mechanic you can use in CD, yeah it isn't necessary but more than once you'll use it in a normal first playthrough which i don't see like it is like false advertisement, i mean, to get the good ending you have to do time travel (or get the time stones) so i don't really think it is like bad advertisement
I love Frontiers, but man its marketing was misleading. When they announced the game, they had that cutscene where Sonic was running from something before turning at that cliff. The way he looks surprised to see... something? Makes this look like an in-game opening cutscene. Then there was that pre-rendered shot with the giant robot stomping that just... never happened. Several renditions of in-game cutscenes but pre-rendered and far higher quality. They made it look like this game was relying a lot on pre-rendered cutscenes, returning to a style similar to Sonic Unleashed in that regard. But no? It almost makes the trailers leading up to the release feel like remnants of cut content, I mean- Why else would they make SO MANY insanely high quality yet disconnected animations for the game? They didn't do this when advertising other Sonic games. Maybe with how many in-game locations got changed around, these pre-rendered cutscenes were rendered outdated last second so they had to resort to only using in-game cutscenes for the final game...? I don't know.
@@snakey888 In what way is Unleashed unstable? It's performance isn't too different form many 7th gen games. If you forget the performance of many big games during the 7th gen barely held to 30fps. Performance for games wouldn't really get better until the 8th generation

"from the team that brought you colors and generations." okay, but why does forces play more like lost world then? sure, it had the wisps and classic sonic, but its core gameplay and level design especially did not play anything close to those two games at all. maybe they didn't want to admit that it was the lost world team because they knew people would immediately hate them for it since, y'know, not a lot of people liked lost world all that much.

Sonic 3D Blast is a 3D game with 2D graphics. How is sonic generstions not a remaster? It's an enhanced port of the game released over a decade after the original.
That's the litteral definition of a remaster. Do you have "remaster" confused with "remake"
it is "remaster" but the remaster we were expecting was a with a improved lighting, better textures etc, not just a resolution bump.
Because after the huge success of sonic frontiers you may heard of these news possibly such as:
1.Sega give sonic team a much higher bigger budget and hiring more developers for sonic team(more budget, manpower and talent)
2. Sonic frontiers 2 is going to have a bigger budget (the sequel)
3. A super game with the budget of 800,000,000 dollars going to get release in 2026 (which god damn... that's alot)

Early build manuals and strategy guides are common...
A lot of games, especially back then, showed a ton of pre release and alpha footage of their games in very different states. There are a ton of games back then which show lots of features that never made it into the final game whether it be graphical effects that were cut due to performance reasons or gameplay options.

@user-vt6dd4kz5t the thing is

First Sonic 3D Blast was called that but the cancelled version was Sonic Blast like what.
That's fair
False advertising should be illegal. Companies shouldn’t be able to just lie to consumers and get away with it
0:47 SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS is a remaster though.
So glad I played mania and didn’t follow any news for forces, the disappointment I would’ve had watching all those trailers is crazy
Thank god. Sega needs to stop doing this.

@KOTSOSMC2002 Forces did have some false/misleading advertising in the sense that they claimed it was from the same team that brought us Sonic Colors and Generations when it technically wasn't. They used that as a blanket statement for Sonic Team when most of the team that actually worked on the game was new staff and some Colors designers like Kishimoto, because by this point any leftover Generations staff were making Mario and Sonic games

this reminds me of something, earlier today,i was seeing the back of my xbox 360 copy of sonic '06 and i laughed at it because it said "over 10 action packed stages" and "10 formidable boss fights",this is false advertising at its its purest
Is it though? If I remember correctly, Sonic has 9 stages, while Silver and Shadow both have 8 each, so together it's more than 10. As for bosses, 1. Egg cerberus, 2. Egg Genesis, 3. Egg wyvern, 4. Iblis 1, 5. Iblis 2, 6. Iblis 3, 7. Mephiles, 8. Sonic, 9. Silver, 10. Shadow, 11. Solaris. Guess it is false, seeing as there are 11 bosses, and not 10.

8:04 we already have Sonic origins mobile ports and mods, am I right!?
8:03 *YEAH BUT THAT BECAUSE YOU’RE NOT THE TARGET AND ALSO, THE MAJORITY OF THE CASUAL PUBLIC DOESN’T PLAY ON PC*
8:53 I Mean… if we’re talking about lore… yes… there are only 3… if we’re talking about gameplay, yes there are 5… again, yes, maybe they were disappointing but… they are still 2 huge areas… explorable… by the way the idea of separating them was the best decision because if not, we would have an absurdly huge initial area and 2 tiny ones (in comparison) and to top it off, it would give performance problems, the idea of separating the first island into 3 was good since it balances the space of the islands and avoids the performance problems that it could give.
9:32 Mh, that's weird, I thought that's what Mania fans liked, grass and more grass, I guess it only works when it's Green Hill, btw the *FULL F/CKING 2 FINAL ISLANDS ARE A STORY FOCUS WHAT TF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT*
I feel like this video has a very personal approach and not very general, it feels more like a "Things I don't like about Sonic" than a video about… False Advertisement in the Sonic franchise.
1:45 Btw, Sonic 3D Blast was a critical and financial subset in his era, this is not a complaint about the video itself, but I think many people don't know that… Sonic never had a “bad transition to 3D” his first 3D games (even counting 3D Blast even though technically it isn't 3D) in fact… they had a good reception by critics and sales, another fun fact is that most of those who say that Sonic only has bad games haven't played any Sonic games beyond Sonic 1-3 and Mania and they will always tell you that Sonic had to stick to 2D and that Mania has no mistakes and it’s a "perfect game", if someone tells you that, run, that guy doesn't wash himself.

the sonic colors ultimate part makes no sense, it's a Wii of course it's gonna have lower resolution

Mania is major?

The thing I thought saved Origins was that the Mobile remakes were brought to Console, they reworked Sonic 3 & Knuckles with better animations and made better soundtracks for Super Sonic and the Final Boss defeated cutscene, as well as Sonic CD being console available for the first time since Sega consoles were discontinued.
What was disappointing was they picked Game Gear Sonic Spinball instead of the Genesis version.

I love the thumbnail. Sonic has dollar signs in his eyes. 😂😂😂
Would the game be a huge success or would it be average?
bro was gone for like 8-9 days and came back with more goated content

"Friends Online: 10"
Weird flex, but ok.

Bro turned into Scott the Woz: Sonictuber Edition
Honestly I fw it
hell yeah glad someone noticed the inspiration
The version of sonic 06 seen in the trailers was a different build with more polish that was scrapped
Then Shadow Generations comes out, with almost no false advertising
