Mage only gives 1 MP per kill/stun, so as long as you're not super overleveled, or going out of your way to respawn weaker enemies, then you'll still probably need to use the MP items, but having MC as a mage is absolutely a life saver in dungeons. I only ever saw it as slowing the drain to a crawl, rather than actually refilling my MP, because it couldn't keep up with how often I used Synthesis to do AoE skills.

Not sure if this covers them talking about the combat, but I do want to point out that the out-of-combat system this game uses is very similar to what Trails through daybreak from last year did. That game also has an action out of combat system where you can outright kill enemies, starting turn based at the press of a button, with you being able to switch to different party members who attack in different ways with different damage affinities and slightly different mechanics. The main difference is that Daybreak outright lets you fight stronger enemies in action RPG mode, with the stun mechanic to start with an advantage being a charge attack you build up with regular attacks. I do prefer how metaphor does it somewhat, as dashing between enemies with the lock on feels a bit better, but I greatly appreciate Daybreak's take on it.

I swear this game feels like it was made in response to those weird people who say "Japanese Games" aren't political. Like they took offense to that mentality and went "The fuck we don't!" and made this.
All of atlus games have been pretty overtly socialist going all the way back to the first SMT where your primary antagonists are the neoliberal Thorman who is an ambassador to the US, and Gotou a japanese ultranationalist. Cozy Okada and Kaneko were both pretty open about this.
I think you might be reading too deep into one of those strawman reddit gamingcirclejerk posts. You know the ones that are like "I hate political games, and my favorite game is MGS/Fallout/etc..." The argument is that some games can present political ideologies without going "all other ideologies are wrong and you're a terrible person for thinking anything else". It bears saying that, to me, the persona series has never been too deep in its writing so I think that without any real nuance or depth "racism bad" will grow tiring up until God shows up in the final act for you to blow up for introducing humans into the world and teaching them to be racist.
It's a shame so few have played Digital Devil Saga that whenever the Archetype system gets brought up Pat and the chat are more likely to pull from Final Fantasy 5 and Tactics over the fact that Atlus was just putting a spin on a system they already did.
You're saying they removed romances, made the game about racism, and changed the heal spell name from Dia to DEI? Sounds like there's a joke hidden in there, somewhere.
So this is before the game comes out im posting speculations to see how much i get right. 1. Elda are the result of interbreeding between the Tribes mixing the magic of each race into something "dangerous" and thats why they're banned. 2. Humans are born from the spirits of dead Elda. 3. The Prince is the secret big bad guy and faked his own assassination. He actually transferred his soul into Louis or he is working with Louis.
This game is the 3rd digital Devil saga game we never got. Also I’m calling it now, this is a SMT spin off. Like we’re going to get straight up angels and Lucifer in the end game as a spin off.
If i'm not wrong this game should be a synthesis/fusion of 35year of Atlus past title so Persona is the more in your face but you have some SMT gimmick / Etrian Odyssey gimmick etc...
I think its refreshing to have a fantasy story about racism where you mc is part of the marginalized race. FFX, Tales of Symphonia, Fire Emblem, ect your always a human.

@@clanofclams2720 there's barely a joke though. it's just going "LOL ITS THIS" when its something else. it's my fault for even being stupid enough to call it a joke and give it legitimacy. people really don't seem to understand the difference between "a joke" and "just saying incorrect things on purpose".
@@mattb6616 are you like... new to the entire concept of jokes or something?
@@clanofclams2720 maybe im too old and remember when jokes involved some kind of effort in making them
I keep saying this with the game, but the way skill inheritance looks like, feels like Digital Devil Saga, so I'd recommend it to anyone who hasnt played it
The Atma system is one of the better progression systems in SMT especially in DDS2, that sounds promising.
@@Vanity0666they also have combo attacks just like in DDS! But it's based on class combos instead of move combos
As someone who wanted more racism in my fictional RPGs with dozen races, I am now hyped for this game.
Word lol
Woolie might want to try out Ni No Kuni 2, game starts out with a full blown race war in the first 5 minutes
I remember Liam using the word "cloud ni**as" in starfox adventures LP and both woolie and Matt creating wakka to become "grand wizard wakka" and I remember "3/5" black friends comments on the podcast along with podcast title "aryan resurrection" so I know woolie loves Racism as much as Pat (both living in Canada and being proud Canadians )
I dunno what Pat's talking about with that shopkeeper. You talk to her later in the demo and she's chill. She has no problem with the MC.
Think he was talking about the guy in the Sanctist church
@blurb9319 He mentioned the shopkeeper talking to the MC outside of the shop though, which you don't do with the priest
@@LordlyWeeb if he specifically said that then I dunno what he means, I just know he referred to the Mustari quest with getting the medicine from the church
I swear this game feels like it was made in response to those weird people who say "Japanese Games" aren't political. Like they took offense to that mentality and went "The fuck we don't!" and made this.
"Japanese Games aren't political"
Nobody says this.
@@Jay-gi6oh
You'd be so surprised.
@@Kango234 Yeah, I would be surprised.
12:31 *THE ZA GOT ME SPEAKING THAT ESPARANTO*
Love me some good ol 'knife ear' insults
Hearing that slut since Warhammer Fantasy
Well i was gonna play the game anyways because of the transformation gimmic
But now i hear racism and now i gotta play
Atlus presents: the racial minority experience
All those cat girl and dog bois took meh jeeehb
I love how the first short in the recommendations to this video is the "Detroit" short. Perfection.
Anyone reminded of Woolie’s gameplay for Astral Chain?
I would love to see him going on tangents with Metaphor like that
Opening with that "Listen" inspired a TON of confidence 😂
congrats to Pat, the new official voice of Atlus
Official brand ambassador Patrick Boivin
Can't wait for someone to lore dump Morrowind on them.
so first thing, the guy who goes on to eradicate Cliff Racers wakes you up, then you steal this nerd's healing ring...
The heavy breathing and woolie licking his lips hearing the absolute heavy hard R going around just sends me 😂
Yo, German mitsuru I'm sold
"Just to be EXPLICITLY CLEAR. Atlus is my SUGAR DADDY...MOMMY....whatever...."
Thank you for your honesty.
Definitely playing Metaphor now.
It is a very good game!
Dont forget 3. Oct. 11
Looking forward to the return of Esperanto with the ffxi alliance raid series
Woolie on the thumbnail: "Hmm... good ol' racism." **smiles**
It's a shame so few have played Digital Devil Saga that whenever the Archetype system gets brought up Pat and the chat are more likely to pull from Final Fantasy 5 and Tactics over the fact that Atlus was just putting a spin on a system they already did.
I know nothing about this game. This is going to be very interesting to watch when Woolie starts playing it 😆
26:50 Wow, a character that finally talks. Now my major gripe with the persona games is also dealt with.
BRUCE GREENE MENTION? MY TWO GOATS INTERMINGLING???
Well the house next door to me was sold to dog boys
Pat is wrong. Strohl 100% looks like Akihiko.
You're saying they removed romances, made the game about racism, and changed the heal spell name from Dia to DEI? Sounds like there's a joke hidden in there, somewhere.
Ngl removing the romances made me 100 times more interested in the game
I'm defeating racism by grinding the optional dungeon so that I'm level 30 when the actual game comes out. Get a head start on the race war
Bruh I'll give you 25 at BEST, levelling slows to a crawl once you one-hit every enemy on the field.
@@clanofclams2720I got to 23, you weren’t kidding
So this is before the game comes out im posting speculations to see how much i get right.
1. Elda are the result of interbreeding between the Tribes mixing the magic of each race into something "dangerous" and thats why they're banned.
2. Humans are born from the spirits of dead Elda.
3. The Prince is the secret big bad guy and faked his own assassination. He actually transferred his soul into Louis or he is working with Louis.
Do you want any confirmations or deconfirmations?
@talkingtakotaco8611 not until I have finished the game haha. I am rescuing the kids from beneath Marita or Matira castle.
@@talkingtakotaco8611 i was completely wrong on all 3 😁 😂
I just got to the secret village and learned the origin of the name of Louis' airship
Woolie is to Racism what Ultraman is to Kryptonite.

I literally have that exact frame as a meme on my channel and an emote/react in my discord. 💀
my 5 year old nephew giggled at pats xbox, i told him it was boxy and we died laughing.
This game is the 3rd digital Devil saga game we never got. Also I’m calling it now, this is a SMT spin off. Like we’re going to get straight up angels and Lucifer in the end game as a spin off.
If i'm not wrong this game should be a synthesis/fusion of 35year of Atlus past title
so Persona is the more in your face but you have some SMT gimmick / Etrian Odyssey gimmick etc...
the only things i know from the game was the racism and the factor you can't date party member. that is as far from persona as we'll ever get
Being a black man and a fan of ATLUS this sent my interest in the game into overdrive to see Big SMT take on the themes of bigotry lol
I love how Woolie's eyes light up when racism exists.
ESPERANTO MENTIONED!!!
It's crazy how Pat is getting all these Atlus sponserships, but I'll never forgive them for killing the P5 LP.
Phantasy Star 2 has more to say about the world we are in than any current JRPG.
What does that say about the quality of today's JRPG's?
I think its refreshing to have a fantasy story about racism where you mc is part of the marginalized race. FFX, Tales of Symphonia, Fire Emblem, ect your always a human.
Another cool talk about racism with Pat and Woolie!
The social links can also increase archetype slots, More's rank 2 (level healer to 10) added a skill slot for seeker

German Mitsuru?!?! I'm crying

Fable: Good/evil meter
Hmm idk if turning this into a system works all that well, but it's fun how you get horns or whatever
''Metaphor'': Tolerance meter. Yes, that kind of tolerance.
I only know about Esperanto because of the werewolf Wulf from Danny Phantom
I WOULDNT be surprised if this game was inspired by Detroit Become Human. Apparently that game is huge in Japan
Yeesh
The manga was really good too
I don’t see why, David Cage said Detroit wasn’t about racism :)
saying your game is inspired by David cage is not how you sell your game
@@kot4311 Did you know Detroit was on the "Underground Railr
I remember my high school trying to push esperanto classes to the students. I skipped it though.
Mr. Snip Snip would do either really well or really poorly in this world. No in between.
Okay comparing Helkenberg to Mitsuru is unfair, the only major similarities are that they are both girls with red hair
Pat tends to compare characters like that soemtimes. Same how Yu Narukami isnt FROM the sticks. Hes a city boy that moves to the sticks for a year.
