    Bread for cevapi is called Samun and you eat cevapi with hands 😀. The sauce with cevapi is called Ajvar and it is made from grilled Peppers. The Cheese spread is called Kajmak. Also, Pita with Meat is called Burek, pita with chesse is called Sirnica, one with potato is caled Krompirusha, and one with spinach (my favorite) is Zeljanica. All of them are called Pita. Try the Loza brandy drink (whatever flavor) and Sarajevsko Beer. Also try the meats made under Sach (traditional way), it is sooo tender and juicy.

      Thank you so much for sharing that! I've updated in the description 'samun' and 'ajvar.' Oh, the sach meats so delicious! Thanks for recommending that.

      Samun?? It is called Somun in Bosnia (Lepinja in Croatia and Serbia)

      the only thing missing was baked beans (prebranac), that's almost essential side dish for this type of meal. oh, and chevapi is actually minced meat shaped like a sausage. so technically not a sausage, which comes stuffed into a skin.

    The red spicy sauce is called Ajvar. Made of bell peppers, garlic, aubergine, and optionally chili peppers (depending on the capsaicin content of the peppers). Most often, it is spicy, but traditionally it is a bit sweet.

    Hi guys, the food there in Bosnia looks fabulous, I don’t know how to spell any of those dishes but the second dish with the pita bread looks fantastic. Do you both speak multiple languages? Just wondering if you ever have a hard time with languages and speaking to people at the counties you both visit. I would 😐

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  7 років тому +3

      Thank you! The food sure has been fabulous. That one is spelled cevapi. Audrey can speak Spanish fluently and a bit of German and I have only dabbled a bit but can't speak another language well. It depends more where you travel whether it is easier or harder. In Bosnia we found it easy enough to find English speakers.

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  6 років тому +1

      Thank you! We had some great meals there. I believe the sauce is Ajvar.

    • @aceofswords1725
      @aceofswords1725 4 роки тому

      The red sauce is called ajvar (pronounced ay-var) and it is ubiquitous all over the Balkans. It's made of slow baked (veeery slow) or cooked red peppers and eggplants and local spices (usually not hot at all, just very very intense red vegetable taste). It can be used as garnish for heavier meats or eaten alone as bread spread (fantastic veggie food right there). It is amazingly tasty and chock-full of vitamins as it is a very common winter food (zimnica). More traditional families have an "ajvar day" in autumn when you buy locally grown peppers and egplants wholesale and then prepare home-made ajvar to give you enough vitamins and minerals for the winter... (Home-made is the best, if someone offers you a jar take it!) Ajvar is basically Balkans sauerkraut in functionality and when buying it look for chunkiness, if it looks too pasty and homogenous it might have been overcooked.

    Wonderful video as usual. Guys! About the bridge, let me share some words about it.
    So. It was ruined in the war times around the late 90s....
    And when peace came back this bridge represented a huuuge huuuge metaphorical meaning for the people.
    Anybody from any religion and ethnic group was actually working hard to rebuild it. And as I know they were using mostly the same rocks the bridge was originally built from.
    That bridge appeared always and appears now as well on a lot of paintings not only around the area but even in other countries such as Hungary where I am from.
    What else... to say... The place certainly has a very special spirit. So not an accident that you tend to fell in love with it too :)
    Cheers, keep on rockin!!!!!! (Maxi Marton)

      Absolute welcome! You are the travelers who capture monuments of the world so credit goes for you two :)
      And you know, for the kind of guys like us from the Eastern Europe area is always a very emotional moment even seeing you re guys loving the food. I cry like a baby seeing it :)
      By the way I am maybe going to my hometown soon (from Spain)
      My hometown is called Pécs (pro-nuance it almost as you'd say peach in English :)
      The town is also called Fünfkirchen . (But only German ppl or Austrians (like Audrey) would call it Fünfkirchen. (Im kinda Austrian partially by the way...) :)
      So name of town to visit is definitely Pécs, in Hungary. A must see place.
      And if I could show you guys around.... lol....lol.... would be a pleasure. (Not for being in the video... I do my own life to cover being visible here and there hahhaa... so no intention of that) just to help you around a bit.
      That town Pécs has an incredible history. (Again, not pecs like muscles, but pronuance it a bit as peach but with an 'a' , a log long "a" actually so it elongates to Pééééécs nicely ) :)
      Yeah , south of Hungary. (Wold famous wine area.)
      Cheers!!!! Thanks for the reply by the way!!!
      On facebook Im: Maxi Marton - media artist - hometown Pécs :)

    The sugary syrup that the traditional sweets are made with usually contains lemon juice in it. I think the lemon was primarily for decoration, but I think you've just come up with a whole new way of eating Ruzice. I have to try that :D The lemon juice is added for more flavour while boiling the sugary water. I sometimes add cinnamon or some other flavours. It's really tasty.

We sometimes think Europe is very expensive for travellers, but that depends on where you go. 19 US Dollars for that whole amout of food and drinks is so cheap! The food reflects the influence of the Ottoman Empire from centuries ago. Looks so similar to Turkish food.

    Hey Sam/Audrey, I always like how ur video style of balancing between food and travelling but since ur focus goes to food more, i would suggest u show the food more closely(sometims top view of plates or platter) so we see the textures and stuff to know them more accurately and also when u cut or pick up food from plate u should show the plate in camera n not ur face, will be better n more professional ...just a suggestion hope u take it in a positive way...

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  7 років тому +2

      Thank you! These are awesome suggestions. We're hoping to improve the quality of our food videos in 2018 :) The detail shots are definitely something we'll try to do better and more of :)

    Red sos is actually AJVAR 😊😊😊😊

  • @Jacobsen1987
    @Jacobsen1987 7 років тому +1

    that sauce is called ajvar. and don0t call čevapi a sausage please. you should eat it with your hands. and that creamy cheese is probably kajmak, it goes very well with čevapi and lepinja (bread).

    Looks great food! But i have to ask- Why are you wearing a hat in an indoor restaurant?

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  7 років тому +1

      Thanks! It is not rude to do that where I'm from unless it is a fancy restaurant. Also, it was kind of cold so removing layers like a hat or jacket is not something I was doing often at this point in the trip. I should remember more to take my hat off though in other countries.

    Samuel and Audrey, thank You guys for great presentation of our city. If you ever get the opportunity to visit Mostar, it would be honor for us to host You and accommodate you in one of our many units, free of charge. Thank you for visiting Mostar, you promoted our city in a really great way and we are thankful for that. Of course, you were limited by your time and other plans, and you didn’t experience all the magic of our beloved city 😊 Shame you didn’t try for example, paragliding over Mostar, which is one of a kind experience, driving a kayak over river Neretva, not to mention off road and quad adventure amid gorgeous countryside of Herzegovina, also unique experience that sticks to your memory.
    Thank You guys again for visiting our city, we hope You enjoyed it.
    For the accommodation in Mostar and the experience that Samuel and Audrey showed you can contact us on our FB page facebook.com/mostarpropertymanagement/, our e-mail info@mostarpropertymanagement.com, website www.hit-booker.com/ , or phone number +387 63 834 179.
    About us - we are just city kids with playful spirit who have the luck to do what they love and who can show You all the magic of our beloved city and Herzegovina as well.
