my dad was on the murmansk run in the engine room as a oiler. they had a marine guard on them with a 45 to keep them from fleeing the engine room with torpedoes in the water. we wound up in NYC in the 60s and he introduced me to a u-boat mariner that worked in our local deli, those guys had a lot of respect for each other, and my dad wanted me to see that the little guys are victims on both sides. he did 7 yrs at sea and was drafted at port in brooklyn for the army during korea, like his time didnt matter. it was corrected later. all victims
Yes absolutely do not get all the credit and honours they truly deserved. Infact i'd argue it's braver performing that task in many ways as those men had very little to zero means of fighting back or defending themselves.
My grandfather was a stoked 2nd class hmcs bayfeild he did the Murmansk run many times he had everlasting scars from the sirens and was never the same Had some great story’s though
I have just uploaded a video trailer to UA-cam for a book I wrote about the Arctic Convoys some years ago. A second book is in the research/writing process. I've given the correct credit for the use of the brilliant soundtrack as the background music.

Вечная память Вашему отцу, русские, Россия и многие потомки помнят их и их самопожертвование ради Победы над нацизмом. Никто не забыт, ничто не забыто
