There's pain in whatever, we stumbled upon
If I never had met you, you couldn't have gone
But then I wouldn't have met you, we couldn't have been
I guess it all adds up, to joy in the end...
Wow, Josh Ritter, holy freaking wow.
I discovered this song playing in a random starbucks back around the time I ran away from home for a week and was stressed out living in my car. I’d sleep in my car at night under parking lot lights.
Love your music😍😍thank you.
I lost my partner a few years ago this was the first song came on radio after she passed miss you shanny miss you so much
That is sad. Almost like you were meant to hear this song right after. I lost the woman of my life years ago and nothing has been the same. Life was easy when she was around.
@@2nd_snideelf144 I know she sent to me
The more I listen, the more I tune in to its simplicity and so can't understand why it's so good. But it is. It is just phenomenal.
I've heard this song for a long time as the theme to the Book Show on WAMC. Finally, I pulled up SoundHound on my phone to find out what it was! Great song.
this dude can write a song, that much is clear.
Cheers!

Yeah, this came out just after my 4 year relationship came to an end. Josh was the soundtrack to many of our best moments and it seems fitting that his new album is likely to be one of the things that gets me through my heartbreak. Those particular lyrics are spot on. As usual, no one says it better than Josh!
Glad to have discovered Josh
Just heard this song for the first time and it made me think of my wife and all the traveling without her with me. Made me want to go home and grab my guitar and sing it to her!
I think one of Josh's greatest feats is being able to memorize the lyrics to his Four-minute long songs.
This song is absolutely beautiful and will always remind me of New Mexico.
This has been stuck in Sean's head ever since the trip. =)
HAHAHAHA! Mine too :)
When I saw him a couple years ago, it was a church venue, he asked them to turn off all the light and he did the same thing. Unplugged his guitar, stepped away from the microphone and played "In the Dark". Magic.
This just made my day.
A well-penned song; isn't it?
Cheers.
Sounds like the forgotten gem of a song that Lou Reed forgot to write. Beautiful song, Josh Ritter is awesome.
Who dislikes Josh Ritter? These are troubled people...
Joy
to you
Baby
wherever you are
tonite tonite tonite
tonite...
Can't stop listening to this!! Cheers, Doug.
Thanks, Frank. I fully appreciate your passion. It's a great feeling to be that fired up about a song and an artist. Thanks too for bringing the conversation back into a more humane place. That's big of you. Maybe there will be something else from this artist that will rock my world someday. Who knows? :-)
this reminds me of a Cure song...love josh's lyrics, and robert Smith's as well
This song went from being one of the best love songs with my bf, to being a sad song after we broke up. After 3 years with him, all of Josh's songs seem.. sad to me now.
Gonna see him in Paradiso, Amsterdam the 25th of July :-)
Dude! I was there! That was an awesome concert altogether.
He did the same at a small venue for In The Dark as well. The whole show gave me goosebumps. Still haven't had a better night than that one.
I remember loving this song. Showing the one I love this tune. Being romantic. Man i am so fond of her. Regardless of her cheating.
Beautiful poetry and music! Thank you!♥️✨
Sounds beautiful! Can't wait to hear it!
WHen you learn what he went through to put this album out, you will LOVE this song.
Thanks for sharing this !
Enjoy this music, love It... Tonight, tonight, tonight.
Three people have ears that are apparently painted on. How can you not like this song?
I saw him in Cork (Ireland) in May 2012.... he also claimed to have been playing the song live for the first time.... :-(
you are very welcome. RW. I do think Josh Ritter is vastly underrated, but that is simply my opinion, and we all know what they say about "opinions".
I let myself get rattled by people posting shit with which I happen to disagree, conveniently forgetting that everyone is entitled to enjoy or dislike whatever they like, regardless of my perspective..
I genuinely wish the best to you going forward, and you are a class act even responding to me as positively as you have.
Cheers!

spot on, dude, spot on! I was trying to put my finger on what band it reminded me of, and the melody and guitar sounds straight off "Disintegration".
Well done, my friend!
Cheers!
FrankC32
Sorry to say, but this song here on UA-cam sounds a lot better than over on prime.
Oh well.
Wow, Frank. I thought the whole idea of posting something to a public forum is that everyone can respond from their own point of view. What a strange world it would be if we all agreed and liked the same music. I'm happy for you and all the supporters here that you like it. That's great. For me, there is not enough variation in melody or harmony. It's how I feel. Why does that make you so upset? Is the artist your friend? Since when does a simple comment inspire such hatred? Wow.
elianrob, Michael Fischer deserves most of the credit, but I am glad to help!
Cheers!

I totally get it and I accept your apology.. I've been in your situation many times before. Looking at my comment, I can kinda see where you came from. Don't feel bad, I'm a big Josh Ritter fan, too and probably would have told off some ass, too.
No problem!
goooooooooooood
Here because of an old episode of Wits from MPR
doojoon & gikwang♥
thank you; as irrational as it sounds, I get serious gratification from this tune...
I do not let moron's opinions change mine...
Cheers!
FrankC32
not sure what you mean.
I'll try to be positive about it, 'cause in the end it is already about the music and that is all.
Cheers!

RARE
Wow tjat guitar riff really sounds like a Cure tune
Where the hell did that come from? That was a sincere comment on how cool it is that Josh can perfect a four minute song without messing up the lyrics.
The lyrics to this are very keen.
break down of his marriage
OMG! thank you. I could NOT, for the life of me, put my finger on what this reminded me of. It's 'Pictures of You' ... not exactly, but close. God, that was buggin' me.
LOL. Either those two, or two punks that Josh used to beat up on the playground and steal their lunch money.
Cheers!
FrankC32
my last reply seemed to suggest that I was calling you a moron!
Nothing could be further from the truth!
"The cups of who cares"?
I respect your input, Caustic1982, you seem relatively wise, as well as your willingness to check yourself before you wreck yourself!
Classic!
Very much like a Lou Reed tune, indeed, well-played, my diabolical friend!!!
Cheers!
FrankC36
What did he went through? plz update me!
Who were the two? Probably Phillip Phillips and his agent.
scarily similar to stereophonic pick a part thats new
that's sad.....
I have to ask, who are the two shitheads who thumbs-downed this song?
I mean, WTF?
Cheers!
FrankC32
Inspired , sad relevant to anyone whos been shit on 😵
sorry, dude, I am fucking asshole.
I offer my sincere apologies, my life and mind are so scattered...
Cheers!

Love Josh but this song seems kind of boring. Maybe it'll grown on me...
Honestly, one of the most boring songs I've ever heard.
