I loved the way the two of them and the haughty father all treated Columbo like some inept rube while he set the trap they fell into. Sweet!

Given the fact that the father was played by Robert Culp (who played multiple murders on that show) makes it even better

I'm pretty sure these guys are the only murderers that never figure out that Columbo is more than he appears, including after the reveal.

@@coolgreenbug7551 It's hard to say, but one of them was sure nervous during the demo while the other still had that smug look on his face. They must have thought Columbo was really stupid when they tried to pretend someone else snuck in and set up the whole gun rig in their car without their knowledge.
This was one of the, if not the most, satisfying reveals of the entire series because of their disdain for and ridicule of Columbo throughout the investigation. They were making fun of him while blissfully unaware that he was methodically tightening the noose around their necks as he seemingly went along with their game. They were two of the most thoroughly dislikable killers to have appeared on the series.

If only that officers name he asked to book them was named Dan or Daniel or Danny.. Then he could have said "Book 'em Danno". I don't normally like the remade Columbo episodes but this was one of the best of them. The cocky young student murderers treated Columbo like some senile old man, but he got the last laugh on them.

They thought Columbo was a fumbling simpleton but, as with all the murderers Columbo deals with, they all underestimate the legendary detective who underneath the worn out raincoat is still as sharp as a knife. RIP Peter Falk.

I disagree. it would have been perfectly possible with the technology that existed in 1990 when this episode was made, unusual perhaps. Of course in todays wireless age, they could have did the same thing from the other side of the world.

Imagine being a fellow police officer, who knows Columbos a genuis, knows hatched a plan, and being there personal as hes about to execute it. It would be really exciting to see it unfold, especially not knowing how it's going to play out. My heart would be pounding in anticipation

The interplay with the two friends/roommates was very well done. The hand signals and interaction gave a realistic sense that these were close friends and co-conspirators. Casting was excellent here.

This case could have been solved by Columbo a lot sooner. When he came down to the parking garage after he had been notified of the teachers death, he could have barred any vehicle leaving the garage until they were thoroughly searched, especially the ones closest to the teachers car. Then he would have discovered straight away the elaborate setup inside the students vehicle as soon as he lifted the hood.
