This song played on my wife funeral. She died at age of 40 after our 18 years together 3 years ago. Every time i hear this I cry as a baby. If she can see me from above... I love you my sweet! You were everything to me.
Music will do that my brother, I was 39 year when my wonderful wife died that was March 2006, So much has happened to me but it fells like it was only yesterday. You never ever forget, I am crying right now, silly sod. You be kind to yourself and remember moving forward is not a wrong it is life and you need to live it however hard that may be James
Samuel Barber's Adagio for strings is in my opinion the most poignant and beautiful string piece ever composed. How it can be filled with so much pathos and hope at the same time is amazing. This is a wonderful version.
The first time I heard this I was completing an assignment from a high school music teacher. She asked that we attend a concert and write a paper about the experience While my compatriots went to rock shows, I went to hear our local symphony. If I could only hear one piece of music for the rest of my life, this would be it. I sat in the audience crying - it's soooo sad and yet somehow very beautiful. Thank you Mrs. C!
It's not often art can bring us to tears just through its beauty, but it's certainly magical when it does... 🥹 My first experience of that was, oddly enough, when the blackhole _Gargantua_ was shown, in the movie "Interstellar". Probably because I had seen a Science Channel docu that detailed the making of it, and how they had real astrophysicists run massive simulations to come up with how it should look in real life... It was the most accurate simulation we had performed, and that's what we see in the movie! (those very scientists published a paper on it, there was that much genuine science involved) And when we finally managed to image a real blackhole, _Messier 87_ (M87), it showed all those hallmarks! 😀 _(albeit at infinitely lower resolution)_ Then, once again, when _Sagittarius A*_ (center of the Milky Way) was imaged. But yea, Adagio also does, as it is a beauty for the ears! Especially with those voicalists ♥️ Tiësto's EDM version of it is also amazing. It likely won't move you to tears, but it *will* likely move your _body!_ 🕺🏼💃🏼 😅
Charlie... good use of a virus, huh? I watched "Platoon" right after our comments. Tears and chills all the way thru. The message never gets old. DNA: Do Not 'arm... or, Do No Ammo. Peace, my friend...
I was a young man during President Kennedys funeral in 1963....this incredible piece of music was constantly played on our local TV station. I still go back to that tragedy when I hear this music. It was only with orchestra back then.
Was taken to see river dance in my hometown of London by my then girlfriend ,now my wife of 32 yrs. When this guy came on stage and played this. I just broke down in tears. Was embarrassed to say the least but it touched something inside me 💪
Platoon uses this piece to perfection. I don’t think there is a movie scene as powerful as that one due to this. They both make each other slightly better.
The perfect music to die too. As you slip from this world to the next, I can’t imagine a piece more calming and fitting. As with all Samuel Barbers music he has a great understanding of the Holy spirit
It’s very hard to explain/describe the emotion that this piece brings to my psyche. I feel as if I’m in the presence of God. The thought of that brings joy and the overwhelming realization of the isolated beauty of this world. Pure genius.

This adagio has and will always haunt me till the day I die. Never has a piece of music and a film, married, the way platoon and Barber's Adagio does. Beautiful, hypnotic, sad, majestical and heavenly. This music flows perfectly.

adagio was the theme for the sequence in the game Homeworld when the Mothership quickly Jumps back to the construction dock only to find the planet and the dock destroyed, and the last 600000 people left frozen in cryopods being attacked by Frigates. Insanely powerful music on its own, but coupled with such a moving story and imagery,…burned into memory.

This is "church music" I grew up with! It's solemn and puts you in touch with the deepest recesses of your being. Whether that's a happy or sad place, depends on what you're made of.
There was no Samuel Barber in my church when I was growing up. It was all the same hymns in the hymnal. Fantastic new sounds would have been much better. Wouldn't have done much good for me, religion is a crock of... However, more meaningful and deeply felt music may have helped my salvation from cleared eyed reason, to falling into a pit with no outcome.
