I left a piece of my soul in Haida Gwaii many years ago. In those days it was still called The Queen Charlotte Islands. I took my brother fishing to celebrate our first film release. The place changed me.
Good luck! We know your predecessors from a few years back.....Mike and Heather. They used to be caretakers of a lodge here in Rivers Inlet. We do similar work here and have lived here.....remotely........for over 40 years!
Thank you! Thats very cool, we haven't heard about them or rivers inlet! It looks beautiful over there! I bet that you have lots of experience living remote, hope to get there one day!
Good luck you two. My husband and I just retired from our caretaking job in the Broughton archipelago. I feel sad not returning to our winter digs after more than six years. I thought I knew everything about myself and my husband when we started back in 2017. Ha! ❤ I hope you enjoy the quiet and natural surroundings as much as we did. All the best from SV Amber IV ⚓💕
I'm recently retired but I spent many years caretaking remote properties on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. Being paid to live on some of the most spectacular places in the world was amazing. If I can offer a tip; if you are interested in pursuing similar opportunities in the future, arm yourself with some relevant certifications. Water treatment and septic system maintenance are valuable skills.
Life will always challenge you but don’t let it spoil your time at the Lodge. It is an Amazing Adventure for you both and you will have time to think and find yourself in the silence.
Love it, I spent a summer at the Hakai Institute when it was a fishing lodge and I live on North Vancouver Island. Enjoy the best rain experiences of your life, and the crashing ocean.
I just found you on UA-cam. I am going to follow you. I live on Vancouver Island. There is so much Beauty Here in BC. So sorry for the loss of your dog, I hope you get another one to keep you company .
Hello neighbour and thank you! We miss our dog everyday, wish she could be here with us. She would have loved it! I think with time, in the future we will allow our hearts to love another dog ❤️
@@Claysanabus We are doing good , we are living in Germany . We’ve been here for 3 months ..it’s been great except we lost Chloe suddenly. Within days, out of nowhere .
Hello, Awesome, Hard working adventure. I learned techniques of long term storage of food items especially eggs and other produce and food items. The Amish people do the long term storage since way back. All foods can spoil over time even staples of rice, beans and other food items. These old skills which are still useful today for such a long term caretaker positions regardless of power from generators, problems can occur. I am a new subscriber and look forward to your adventures.
I worked at a fishing lodge by Masset last summer. Guests flew in every 3 days. I can count on one hand the times there was no fog at that airtport and planes landed on time.
Hey guys! Wow!, what an experience you two are going to have!!! I have definitely subscribed and look forward to seeing all your uploads. I guess this means Matt will not be joining the Aim Roads crew this winter. lol. And his comment about hopefully not going crazy, the Shinning comes to mind. lol. Just joking! Such a beautiful spot! Looks like a lot of work, but once you get your routine, it’ll be all good! Have fun and enjoy this experience you two!!! 🤠🤠
Thanks Jeremy! Haha Yeah hopefully Matt doesn't start seeing children in the Hallway! And definitely not going to miss the Night shift blizzards!🤣 It really is beautiful here! We will does our best to try and capture a fraction of the natural beauty here and share! It really nice to here from you and thank you for the support!
Hi there, I liked and subscribed to your video. Thanks for the excellent photography and editing. Yes, I get that some picky people criticised your music and subtitles. But, hey, I like the mellow vibe and the subtitles helped me. Just keep on doing what you are doing and I'll keep watching. Keep safe and keep well.
Thanks for the welcome! We are very grateful to be here. We really appreciate how special Haida Gwaii is and will make sure to be respectful while we here.😊

Great video guys and what a start to your adventure! But please lose the subtitles, they’re really distracting and we can always switch on the YT subtitles 😀

We were lucky when it came to food-the chef who worked here for the season handled all the ordering. We just gave him a list of what we liked, and he took care of the rest. As for supplies like toothpaste, shampoo, and hygiene products, we didn’t fully realize how much we'd need for 8 months.
