I like how they refer to the builder as "it".

Thanks! I'm curious if the final builder could be the repairman if there were multiple participants in the 51% of the plane and the final builder's contribution was greater than any of the other amateur participants.

Yes, you are allowed to choose one person to apply for the repairman certificate. My husband and I built matching Christen Eagle kit planes. We could only list one builder when we applied for the repairman certificates so he was listed on one and I am listed on the other. It did not matter how much time each one of us spent on the build process. When he passed away a few years later, his repairman certificate could not be transferred to me. I petitioned the FAA for an exemption. It took 2 years but I was finally successful with help from the EAA, my mechanic, and documentation showing my participation in the build process. To my knowledge, mine was the first successful case to have an exemption granted and allowed me to apply for the repairman certificate he previously held and transfer it to my name.

As Lynn stated to get a repairmen certificate you do not need to build 51%. 51% just has to be done by amateur's.

I think there is a bit of misinformation in the video regarding the repairman certificate. If a group of 51 builders completed an airplane and each of the builders completed 1% of it, only one builder amongst them can be qualified for the repairman cert, provided the builder is competent to make repair. In the video example, if the FAA deems the original builder as incompetent then it will not issue the certificate to the original builder. If the 2nd builder is deemed competent then he is qualified to apply for the repairman certificate, if he is the only person to apply for it

@@2Phast4RocketYour statement is absolutely correct. I don't believe there is misinformation, maybe a lack of information. I did not include the situation where a group of builders build the aircraft initially and then choose one to be issued the repairman certificate, if he/she can prove builder knowledge to the inspector. I can count on one hand how many questions I have ever been asked about the group situation in the past. On my videos, I try to keep them short and can't include every situation. I included the situation of a second buyer, because that is the biggest questions we receive from the public. If I would have included the group situation, I believe I would have covered most all the questions that are normally asked. I certainly should have done that...this is only my second video and your comments help me with creating future videos. Thank you very much for your comments...

@@lynnojala8621 Lynn I believe you are correct in stating you may be the first to receive an exemption in that case, that I know of....good job!!
