- Four of the captive critically endangered red wolves at the Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem, NY engage in a howl with some of the other 18 wolves at the Center. At 9-months-old, the two red wolf pups born last spring are practically fully grown. Among the wolves lending their voices are Atka, the WCC's traveling ambassador Arctic gray wolf, who can be clearly heard in the beginning, and critically endangered Mexican gray wolves the WCC houses as part of a Species Survival Plan under the Endangered Species Act. There are only about 50 Mexican gray wolves and 130 red wolves living in the wild.

If they’re small in population, no need to. If the deer, turkey, and rabbits start disappearing fast, they need to be thinned out. They are beautiful animals but managing the population is a must so other animals don’t go extinct. We have a bad coyote issue here. The mating season for them is now and I’m trying to kill some coyotes so turkey can produce many poults this year. The problem in the mountains here is flooding and coyotes and both of those keep turkey numbers lower than they should be.

these aren't the more commonly thought of gray wolves, they are red wolves, and more closely related to coyotes

That's awesome. We live in Graham, WA and there is a Red Wolf Conservation site behind us in this wooded area and we hear them do that every night. They're beautiful animals.

So beautiful! But that one reminded me of a 1974 chevy I used to own. How it sounded on a cold start!! Lol.. We will call him chevy!! The red wolf saved my life in a dream. I woke up and was rushed to the hospital. Had that wolf not come to wake me i would have died. I had a heart attack during the night! He has come two more times and last week I was visited by a white wolf in my dreams who just didnt want to go home and kept laying at my feet!!

The woods chasing a deer they had 6 pups following it was funny to see them stop when the deer ran across the street and walk back to the woods the pups are so cute I love when wolf pups try to howl and yip when they howl

they really do sound like both wolves and coyotes. the deep voice and tone of a wolf, but the open mouth "yelling" & yipping of a coyote. i hope these lovely and strange animals can be saved.

Yes. A wolf isn't a dog. As much as they look like dogs, they're wild animals. They deserve our respect and protection (from a distance).
In a perfect world, there would be no need for Conservation Centers in order to keep a species alive. In this world, however, I'm glad that they're here.

The Truth Revealed no to be mean but you don’t know anything about wolves then. Wolves are very sociable animals, and live in packs as big as 30 or 40. The term lone wolf cafe from a wolf who was kicked out of the pack for whatever reason
