Just so you know, Haraguchi-San plays a 5-string Sadowsky bass. Hazuki Ibanez 7-string and Saki Killer Fascinator The Empress signature 7-string guitar.
Guitarist Saki was also in the legendary all female heavy metal band Destrose, pioneers of the all female metal bands, but only for a short period. Saki was also in another amazing metal band called Mary’s Blood, she has also her solo projects and she is part of the duo project Amahiru with Frederic Leclercq, ex-bassist of DragonForce. Saki began a solo career in 2021 with the release of instrumental album “Brightness” which Leclercq on bass and Coen Janssen from Epica on keyboard and drummer Shun Minari from Blindman. Saki is good friends with Miyako from LOVEBITES.
Thanks for checking these ladies out. Good pronunciation on the band name. My favorite of the Japanese bands, along with LOVEBITES. Formed in 2019 by lead singer Mayu, when she needed a bcking band for a live session. She called her former classmate, bassist Hariguchi-san. They found Tamu Murata, an in demand session drummer, and guitarists Saki (ex- Mary's Blood) and Hazuki (ex -Disquala). They decided the lineup was too good for a one off, and formed the band. Named after a flower because they are all female. Nemophila is a 5 petal blue and white flower, native primarily to the western US. Love Mayu's screams, those are in English, cleans are a mix of Japanese and English. This song is their first ever single. Saki plays a 7 string Killer guitar, Hazuki a 7 string Ibanez. Hariguchi-san is playing a 5 string Sadowski, 4 tuners on the top of the headstock, 1 on the bottom. Song is their first ever single , on their debut album Revive. Their 3rd album was just released last month. Tamu , the drummer, probably stays fit chasing her 2 kids. lol For more , try Dissension, Seize the Fate, Adabana, Reitei, Revive, Style, and their newest single Ame-te-ras.
@@DadDaughtersandDrinks Neemo is the US accent version. Which is fine. The band and most everyone else says Neh-mophila. The band is aware of this and when I saw them live Mayu the lead singers said Neemo-phila then stopped and corrected herself saying Neh-mophila twice then laughing with Saki the guitarist saying Neemo-phila Americano.😄 Mayu named the band after the flower which grows in massive numbers at the Hitachi Seaside park in Japan around April/May/June. Each petal representing each member.
I'll certainly try to pronounce it correctly, but I feel better than even the lead singer says it wrong by accident. I've had trouble with that prefix since grad school when I had to pronounce nematode, and was never sure which way was right (and I'm still not)
Discovered Nemophila in 2022 and they have become one of my favorite bands. Was lucky enough to see them in NYC last year. They just had their 5 year anniversary concert from Japan yesterday. It was live streamed. Got up at 4am to catch it. I believe you can still purchase a ticket to watch the replay of it. One of my favorite songs from them is "Zen". It's just a non stop in your face song. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/k1yPbBRHFms/v-deo.html
Really enjoyed your reaction and a great intro to Nemophila, Im actually flyingout to japan tomorrow to catch them live! Def try checking out any of their other live stuff or their song Adabana or Revive!!
Surely Murata Tamu the drummer looks like being in a very calm and relaxed state amid the intense double kicks since all her limbs are independent from each other and she sometimes switch between cross and open hand for high-hat and snare routine effortlessly... wait until you see her sing along while drumming intensely without missing a beat. She is well-trained and mastered the Jazz drumming technique and had been (in fact still is) one of the highly-demanded fill-in drummer in Japan for decades regardless of styles/genre ...from jazz to fusion, pop to metal, or anything in between. And that's only highlight her proficiency in drums alone... not how many instruments she could play. She endorses TAMA Drums since 2016 (while she was only 24 years old) and 3 years later signed an endorsement contract with MEINL Cymbals - also is TAMA Japan spokesperson and one of the drum instructors for TAMA Drum Clinic. While actively involved with her carrier as musicians and her family as a mother of two, her friends told her that her drumming now is even more solid after she became a mother.
Nemophila is 🔥 Very diverse.. they cover about every genre. Mayu (vocals) can most certainly growl, although I liken it to a Banshee wail.. She can melt the heart, or the face.. as will the entire band Hazuki (guitarist) 7 string Ibanez. Saki ( guitarist) Killer guitar, also 7 string, She has her own signature model.. Tamu(drummer) one of the best on the planet( very sought after session drummer prior to Nemophila. playing many different genres. Tama drums ( huge Dream Theatre fan).. Haraguchi-san, sadowsky 5 string bass.. very underrated bassist, can play with anybody.. Thanks for reacting to them.. they deserve the recognition .. couple song suggestions Sieze the Fate (recent live) Raitei(recent live) .. Adabana(mv) Odyssey power ballad (recent). for growls Dissension(mv) and recent live song Zen.. thank you..
For me..Nemophila is doin’ the same to Metal than Band-Maid is doin’ to Rock..They are saving it. They can play any genres they wanna play and killed it. Magical band 🔥 Drummer Tamu is maybe best drummer out there. Amazing musicians, humble humans 🔥❤️🤘 They are livestreaming their Budokan-concert next Saturday 17/2. More info from their social media sites. It’s gonna be HUGE one.
I saw them live last March in Dallas and as you can tell from this video, they are a great live band. I talked my daughter and granddaughter into going with me and they both loved the band. We got there early so were able to be right by the stage. I was right in front of Saki, who is the stage left guitarist. Saki did the same amazing back bend during this song in Dallas, as well as in another live video of this song, so it must be a regular highlight. She interacted with the crowd quite a bit. At one point she grabbed the phone of a guy that was videoing, took video of the band from the stage, and then tossed the phone back to the guy (who I think wasn't able to catch it and it hit the floor). I got a high five from Saki at the end of the show, which was nice. I agree with the suggestions for the song Adabana from their sophomore 2022 album called Seize The Fate. Here is the link - ua-cam.com/video/AxYiOwsu6wU/v-deo.html
@@DadDaughtersandDrinks I am 350 miles northwest of DFW, so seeing shows there is not a short drive. I am going to DFW this weekend to see a couple of shows - the death metal band Crypta tomorrow night in Dallas (same venue as I saw Nemophila) and the prog metal band Haken in Fort Worth on Saturday night. Two bands on opposite ends of the metal spectrum but two of my favorites.
Wait... I'm about 350 miles NW of DFW! Buddy Holly fan perhaps? :-) If not, the distance sounds about the same and I've done my fair share of driving to DWF for concerts, so I get you.
Enjoyed the reaction. My favorite of theirs is "Adabana", so I'm throwing my vote in for that one next. Hariguchi, the bassist, does play a 5-string. But it's easy to miss because one of the tuning keys is on the bottom of the headstock. I own a 7-string but I don't use it with my band because my bassist plays a 4-string. I find I tend to step on his toes a bit without that 5th string (You're right. The 7th string is a low B in standard tuning.).
Thanks for giving Nemophila a chance, they're my favourite band right now. They recently released a cover EP and even more recently released a new album. As for the pronunciation you're better than most, most people don't realise it's -phila and not -philia at the end. The first syllable is more of a "neh" rather than a "nee". I'm not sure if you noticed but it's interesting that Hazuki's guitar is more prominent in the left earphone and Saki's guitar is more in the right due to where they stand on stage. It makes the duelling/duet/call and response solos more interesting to listen to. Others have said this but Haraguchi-san uses a five string base, there is one tuning peg on the other side to the other four. Both guitars are seven string. Mayu tends to stick with the high pitched scream vocals rather than the low pitched growls, as well as the clean vocals. The lyrics are worth looking up for Nemophila, they are often very positive messages. Some suggestions, I'll try to give a range of different things: - Fighter - a personal favourite of mine (one of many). They have a live session video on their channel. An older song, energetic with pretty much all clean vocals. - Raitei - a new live version is their most recent video released on their YT channel, but it's another older song. - Hypnosis - they only have a MV version. It sounds quite "exotic", I would say "harmonic minor vibes" but apparently it's in a major key so shows how little I understand! - Odyssey - (MV) their latest power ballad. - Life - an older ballad, lots of emotions. The older official live version is better. - Zen - this song has some interesting musical choices, quite heavy with mostly scream vocals. - Night Flight - a super fun one inspired by 80s disco. Both the live and the MV are good. - Ama-te-ras - another one from the new album with a recent live video which I'm falling in love with. This one is fun and energetic too. - Rise - there's a MV and they recently released a live version. This one is great and has a message that really resonates with me. They also have loads of cover songs on their channel which are worth checking out if any catch your eye, ranging across all sorts like AC/DC and Iron Maiden, Halestorm and Babymetal, Foo Fighters and Bon Jovi. If I had to recommend one cover I'd say Babymetal Megitsune because Babymetal are big on your channel.
Thanks for the info and recs. I did notice the guitar/earphone mix; I've actually been pretty impressed with the mixes for all of these double-lead guitar bands. A cover of Megitsune sounds great, and it'll be interesting to watching someone play Kami band music.
The members of nemophila are musicians from different bands. They are all excellent musicians. And nemophila is a very unique and diverse band, with various genres of music appearing in their catalog. I recommend《adabana》 as the next!🤘🏻🌸🤘🏻 Btw, The bass is a 5 string bass😉

Both really show off Mayu's special talent for vocal versatility. Nice job with this one. I got a genuine chuckle out of the idea of the odd numbered Japanese guitar virtuoso. It could almost be a Saturday Night Live sketch or something. I'd suggest pulling up their covers playlist from the official Nemophila UA-cam channel and see if they've done any of your favorites. They got started doing covers during Covid and publishing them on UA-cam. I love their attention to detail and sense of fun with them.
Great to see you checking out NEMOPHILA, my favourite Japanese band! Lots of good suggestions for further videos in the comments . One other band I suggest is Gacharic Spin, with their main guitarist Tomo-Zo and second guitarist/drummer/vocalist Hana. "Tamashii" live and "Koete yuke" live are good examples of the hard rock/metal end of their style - they play all sorts of music. I see you've already reacted to another one of those "odd-numbered guitarists", the brilliant Hal-Ca from Asterism.
@@timjonesbooks Couldn't agree more! Gacharic Spin is in my top three along with about five other bands, which shows how well I can count. They aren't really metal but they do sometimes go HARD! I think Tomo-Zo is one of my favorite humans. Asterism are amazing and right there in the list with the rest.
Welcome Nemo fella, recommendations: Zen Live, Revive, Ama-teras, Adabana, Seize the faith, Dissention, Life...the bass player Haragushi-san play with 5 strings, Tamu the drummer she is awesome, also play the saxophone, guitar and bass (not for the band), Hazuki the lead guitar with The Ibanez play in another group called Koiai with Li-sa-X, you must check it out Li-sa-X, Saki the lead guitar with Killer guitar she is for me one of the best in Japan...and she is left-handed, Mayu is the vocalist with a unique voice and talent, and this Saturday they will play in the most iconic venue in Japan, The Budokan...Nemo is growing fast. Each NEMOPHILA song sounds different. Next one should be ADABANA (OMV) - ua-cam.com/video/AxYiOwsu6w/v-deo.html Then watch this eight year old video of guitarist SAKI with her previous all-female Metal band MARY’S BLOOD playing MARIONETTE- ua-cam.com/video/MLM2unV0kwU/v-deo.html BTW, MAYU has a baby at home, and MURATAVTAMU has two tiny ones of her own. I don’t know how the do it. NEMOPHILA is a flower with five petals, as shown in their logo on the screen. And the letters make for a cool band name logo. But what is an OIRAN?
Lots of strings here. Hara-chan's bass is a 5, even though it's not easy to see here. SAKI and Hazuki both play 7-string guitars. Don't worry about the even number of guitarists in many bands. The loners do fine: Band-Maid's Kanami and Hanabie's Matsuri do enough work in their respective bands to fill all the space they need to (although Matsuri is more engine room than shredder). Lots of great music coming from Asia, especially from Japan. EDIT to add: They're playing Nippon Budokan this month! Check out their recent live videos for 'Raitei', 'Revive' and 'Ama-Te-Ras'. The last of those is from their new album and the album audio is used over the live footage. If you want ultimate Mayu scream vocals, the live video for 'Zen' is the place to go.

MUCC / 蘭鋳 (ua-cam.com/video/swQXQkW7riw/v-deo.html) and PassCode / Tonight (ua-cam.com/video/xbdmcHtbAwU/v-deo.html). Both really show off Mayu's special talent for vocal versatility. In the PassCode cover she does the vocals from all 5 of PassCode's vocalists, including the opening auto-tuned part, because, well, PassCode does a lot of auto-tune.
@@stevebillingsley3529 I'm sure I missed out a lot of favorites.. But have to draw the line somewhere.. Lol glad you added these two, they are both very cool Thankls and best wishes
Regards from Chile.
Thx for the info!
Unlucky Morpheus、sokoninaruもお勧め。

I will check these out - thanks for the links!
There are bands like trident snd Hanabie have one guitarist excellent too
Tamu, adorable person, but pray you don't get re-incarnated as her drum kit!
Adabana
Rise
Another recent video of theirs is also a banger. "AMA-TE-RAS" ua-cam.com/video/96LQimRqJgM/v-deo.html
They also do a fantastic job with power ballads. "ODYSSEY" ua-cam.com/video/J8RhjQpFf_Q/v-deo.html
I would also recommend the band Asterism and their song "Rising Moon" ua-cam.com/video/IfxMi0Bx4x0/v-deo.html
Thanks for the links!
Each NEMOPHILA song sounds different. Next one should be ADABANA (OMV) - ua-cam.com/video/AxYiOwsu6w/v-deo.html
Then watch this eight year old video of guitarist SAKI with her previous all-female Metal band MARY’S BLOOD playing MARIONETTE- ua-cam.com/video/MLM2unV0kwU/v-deo.html
BTW, MAYU has a baby at home, and MURATAVTAMU has two tiny ones of her own. I don’t know how the do it.
NEMOPHILA is a flower with five petals, as shown in their logo on the screen. And the letters make for a cool band name logo. But what is an OIRAN?
Thx for the links!
Sorry to break your bubble dude, but Haraguchi-san is using a Sadowsky five string bass, the fifth peg is down, close to the guitar fretboard.😆
Ugh, I know now. I'm crushed! haha
Thx for all the info!
I count five strings on the bass and seven on both guitars maybe your shot is a bit strong
Bassist plays a 5 string. Both guitarists play a 7 string.
lIVE Version RISE OIRAN.Revive.Life is also amazing⚡🎸♫
In my mind, BabyMetal is not Japaneas HeavyMetalBand!
I don't think BandMeid is good either!
Enjoy listening to the rest♫
