  • Hi Guys,
    We have two new additions which are Lavender Pekin Bantams. These chickens are a breed which are small and that have no larger counterpart. They have a rounder shape compared to a standard size chicken and have feathers covering their feet and legs. They came to us in a bad state but we have given them love and attention and we are looking forward to them flourishing with us.

    So glad you have given them a loving and better home. Sickens me how these people raise them for financial gain and not taking the care and attention they need. Have you thought about reporting the breeder anonymously? There eggs will be rewarding once they start laying, a lot smaller in size but taste amazing. Look forward in watching them grow with you. The hen with a bad eye bathe with a moist tea bag, sounds balmy but it really does work.

    Awww, bless em they’re so cute. I did feel sorry for em though but I know you’ll both love them to bits so they’ve come to a great home. Hope the seller mends his ways or that someone has a heart enough to report him, they deserve a decent start in life & it’s sad they were kept in horrible conditions, sounds like it wouldn’t take much for him to make there lives a little better.

    Hi, Jo, Kelly and ever extending family. Just catching up on your videos, great to see your newest members 🐔🐔 Last year with the really hot weather we had the dreaded red mite invasion and can highly recommend Red stop, it's on eBay and you just add to drinking water, initially for ten days and then once each week thereafter, it stops the mites being able to feed and so breed. Also DE powder can be bought in large bags for a very good price and like Kelly said, shake it into their dust bath and nest boxes and pretty much everywhere each time you clean. We poo pick each day to keep it nice for our girls (and us 😊) and find that prevention is much easier than a cure. Glad eye problem is sortin itself out, one of ours daffodil had a swollen eye and I just bathed for a few days with warm salty water and it cleared up, not usually a problem unless swollen eyes are accompanied by snotty nose it which case it's a vet visit as it could be microplasma which is nasty. Enjoy you guys and keep up the good work, have to say how lovely it is to see you two enjoying so much at your ages what it took me till I was in my forties to find, loving it 😘👍👍

    • @GeorgiasVintageWorld
      @GeorgiasVintageWorld 5 років тому

      @@diggingfordinner at first I was scared to let them mix with my large hens & ducks but they get on no problem, the bigger birds put them in their place now and then but they've been together over a month now and so far all's been well. But I did keep them together for a month first sepparated by pen wire then they broke out one day and mixed by accident. Sorry for rambling on.😂

    • @diggingfordinner
      @diggingfordinner  5 років тому +1

      We have kept them in the hutch within the hen house when we go home and when we are at the plot we have put them in a separate run next to the other girls but we tried to mix them again today and they got really pecked so separated them fairly quickly. They are just so small in comparison we don’t want them to get hurt but are we being over cautious 🤔 maybe we just need to try for a short period every day

    • @GeorgiasVintageWorld
      @GeorgiasVintageWorld 5 років тому

      @@diggingfordinner how long have have you had them? If its only a few days give it a little longer before fully mixing, mine had a month to adjust, but I was scared to mix them. I think you do right to keep them sepparated for now until they get to know each other through the wire, can't be too cautious. Say for example if you were to get another few large birds you'd keep them sepparated for a while then mix, it helps them work out the pecking order (I'm sure you've done that recently on one of your vlogs) and I believe it's the same for the Pekins too. Yes watch over if you mix them for a little while during plot time. Just read on Google that bantams don't always end up on the bottom of the order. I haven't kept chickens for long, but that's what I'd do. Hope I've helped a little. Georgia.

    Used tea bags for sore eyes. Once a month i also rub vaseline on to thier legs and feet this will stop scally mite and if any are present will kill the mites off. In an area that stays dry i have some builders brick laying sand my girls love bathing in this it also helps get rid of red mites. Peking cockerals are not to noisy if you want chicks pekings are ideal bantam breed.

      @@diggingfordinner a bit shrill, but not deafening. Depends on how much "attitude" the boy has. They are worst until they are 2 (teenage hormones), and crow more if there are other cockerels in earshot.

    Diatomaceous Earth works very good so long as it stays dry. It will dry out bugs that get it on them. People can actually eat the food grade DE and it helps to detoxify the body. Especially the intestinal system, if you know what I mean. It is supposed to be very good for you. I am thinking about using it for myself to see if I can’t get rid of 65 years of heavy metals and food made with all kinds of crap.
