Well, 24-bits will be playable but with a precision of 10 bits. For a 10-bit DAC, even using 0.1% precision resistors would not guarantee monotonicity of output. This DAC uses 0.1% precision resistors. Personally, I would look for something with more precision in resistors, because in discrete R-2R everything above 16-bits is marketing (for 16-bits the precision resistors must be at least 0.001% - unrealistic :D)

On my btr5 I can have 2 phones connected to it over bluetooth while it's plugged in to my laptop via USB. So if I get a call I don't have to take off my earphones to answer.

$265...sigh...first if someone can prove they can hear the difference between modern cheap D/S DAC and R2R DACs in a blind test, then that would catch my attention.....barely, many think the "musical' properties of the R2R Dacs are just lack of in dynamic range and resolution. All modern dongle Dacs are completely transparent to human ears now, which is what you want, and characteristic of particular sound should be define for the headphones you are using.
Tell that to the people who spend thousands of dollars on tube amplifiers. Some people care more about the end result (I.e. the music) than the measurements.
That is very narrow minded of you. Your taste doesn't define the standard of what other people should like. I have fiio k5 pro and it is a more clear sounding / resolving dac amp combo. I love the fiio but when I want to sit back and relax I use my cayin ru6, it is not resolving but it is warm and relaxing. I also think that the cayin ru6 has better imaging and soundstage than the fiio k5 pro even though it lacks the clarity that the k5 pro has. Clarity is not the perfect measure for quality, and nor is your taste.
@@kato2395 My taste? i did not say i like this or that, what I said is that nowadays well designed DACs have reach a level of clarity that human ears can not tell the difference, a fact. Now, the thing with the Cayin RU6 is that it has distortion and dynamic range deficits, to a level that actually can be perceived by human ears, and give him its particular "sound", by the way with EQ and other filters you can turn your transparent fiio K5 pro to sound like your Cayin, the same way a completely transparent amp can manage to sound like a particular tube amp , just adding the particular amount of distortion and harmonics.
The world has switched over to audio CDs since the 80s, yet analogue vinyl LP records are making a comeback. In Japan, music cassette tapes are slowly making a comeback too. Why? Why are people making the illogical move to switch back from pristine digital sound quality of CDs back to analogue sound with its clicks and pops and/or tape hiss? The younger generation may have no answer to this crazy, illogical move to abandon pristine digital bit perfect sound, but the older generation understands and embraces this illogical phenomena. And no, the answer is not nostalgia. Analogue sound with its multiple imperfections is simply... sweeter and more realistic to the human ear as opposed to cold, clinical digital sound. Now my next question, as inspired by you regarding "a completely transparent amp can manage to sound like a particular tube amp , just adding the particular amount of distortion and harmonics". I am curious: will adding distortion and harmonics, or even clicks and pops, tape hiss to a digital CD during recording also reproduce the analogue sound?
You're just underestimating human ears. I can tell difference between my pc dac and focusrite scarlett and apple dongle. pc sounds loose and hazy with hazy soundstage and imaging, scarlett sounds clean, more soundstage, accurate imaging, tight and dynamic, apple dongle sounds less dynamic than the scarlett, rolled of bass and condensed soundstage but tighter than the pc. They all are chip based and still sounds different, R2R will probably make a bigger difference. Completely transparent is just a myth
