Watching for the first time I’m wishing that people like you and what you do could compete in the Olympics instead the stab stab stab of today’s competition
Infantry sabres that followed the 1796 light cavalry style did not follow a regulation, so they varied immensely. The 1803 was the first regulation infantry sabre, but both the 1803 regulation, and the 1796 style ones before it had no regulated length or curve, and so you'll find huge variety, with blade lengths from from about 66-84cm, an average would be about 76cm.
Message south coast swords on FB. Scott and his crew can help you get what BF stuff you want and they're great dudes. Pricing is still very very reasonable
Not really, their strength is in their thick edges, with a very wide fuller. It would be hard to get a good edge bevel without taking a lot off. For sharp sabres, I use some antiques, especially for sabres. For basket hilts, I use a Hanwei Cromwell but they've rocketed in price. Cold Steel are ok for both if you get US prices on them, but not so much here. Armourclass in Scotland make nice basket hilt sharps too.
I'm not such a fan, it pulls off to the side a little too much, which is often a problem with asymmetric hilts, especially ones for sparring that have to be built quite robustly. It's also not a combination that was used outside of British Indian Troopers later in the 19thc, and we tend to stick with earlier swords.
Man I'd love to train with something like that, but even if I had the money to get one it's really hard to find people to train with where I live... I'd have to travel 70+ km to the nearest HEMA group I could find, let alone a group that specializes in sabres...
Yeah you need to talk to Scott at south coast! He'll get you any BF you want! Depending on his stock level might take time but find south coast on facebook and start messaging. Great dudes super helpful
@@MrCakedo in my experience working through their facebook page is WAY better than the site. Not sure if that is what you meant cuz yes, they do move a lot of product, but staying up on FB posts from them will help you see how much of what is coming in when and how and when you can add your name to a list to make sure you get what you want on the next ship

Totally getting one, probably the best HEMA friendly sabre out there
Picked up a Cooper and Craven
Indeed a new favorite..
Ordered one already :D Absolutely love that design!
Nice sabers, they look amazing.
I really like sabers alot too.
Could you tell me how long is a average 1796 infantry sabre, please?

Which is your preference of the 2 trainers featured here ?
When are Blackfencer going to make a sharp version? Thats what I'm looking for
Is a full-ish review coming up soon?
Sure, will get on it soon.
@@AcademyofHistoricalFencing is it still coming soon?
Is it allowed in tournaments though?
Do you think these would be suitable to sharpen for cutting practice? If not do you have any recommended sharp sabres or basket hilts? Cheers

Cheers, I'll have a look
There's a 1796 British light cavalry and heavy cavalry sabers done by Universal Swords that cost less than the Black Fencer ones.
How do the blades hold up over time?
is it intended for hammer grip only? haven't noticed much space for a thumb
I have what I believe is an 1803 but I am having trouble identifying it, can you recommend a good source of info
I’m don’t even like saber but fuck that’s a nice sword
Looks great! Time to save those pennies again...
What is your opinion of the three bar hilt version of 1796 Infantry Saber

I feel your pain. I have done HEMA for a bit more than a year now, and I have to travel half an hour on a tramway to get there.
I hope they eventually start offering sharp blades and smaller grips. Proper functional reproductions. If not them I hope someone does soon.
They do make sharp longswords, so I think is very probable that they do.
I wish they shipped to USA, :(

I check their site quite often, out of stock all the time haha. It's too popular, just like the elusive konings...
