Amazing! You heard it here first at 5:55 you only need "two to five horsepower" (2-5 HP) to get a climb rate of (at 6:12) 1350 feet per minute.
That is beyond impressive, I think I'll call my physics professor and ask him why he taught me all those "laws" that say this is impossible.
actually misleading. According to the manufacturers website and pilot operating handbook, the IO-375 engine is fuel-injected to provide 195 or 200 HP.

I love the retro look of the Kitfox!
Some inaccuracy's and I felt like I was listening to a 4 wheeler or jetski commercial .
That was my chase footage of the Just Aircraft SuperSTOL...🤘🤠
WATOP, RedWheel, and now this!?! Dude, you are rocking the narration world!
I feel slighted. I have an ICP Savannah S that TOTALLY belongs on this list! It will easily take off in less than 150 feet, climbs at about 1500'/minute, and cruises at 130mph with an Aeromomentum AM15 117hp engine.
Mike Patey's Draco was the ultimate STOL aircraft. Missed that red beast.
Love it! Thanks for sharing and keep it up!
I've never thought about an airplane, but to give it a second thought it would be the way to get around.
Just keep up with maintenance and your all good!
There is so much more than that involved. They are not like cars that can pull safely over every time there is a issue. The maintenance is very involved and requires annual inspections and mandatory tear down and rebuild of engines after so many hours of flight just to inspect them. And you have to have all those records at all times to prove the health of your plane. Then keeping them hangered out of bad weather and from getting damaged it is a very costly thing.
Hi, My name is James, too. I'm an auto technican, not a vet. Knew about STOL, def impressed by short STOL and high climb rates.
I clicked on your video and see my footage....lol. 🤠👍
Still my favorite is the WW2 FIESELER Fi 156 STORCH :)
I love the balloon tyres.
2 to 5 hp?? I flew a zenith and it had at least 120 more horsepower 😂
Great video. As a fan of Rans S21 outbound , Carbon Cub and Husky. I was surprised to see that Maule did not make the list.
the Rans S21 outbond with would be my choice. The Material, take off Speed of 40 and max Speed from over 145 is the widest range you can get by an STOL aircraft.
The Douglas county DC-4 is listed on a website as one of top 10 Bush planes.
Man can’t wait to start building my kitfox STI though crazy to think the 915is cost more then the plane it’s self.
I was thinking it's pretty amazing they get a hundred miles an hour plus out of 2-5 horsepower engines
This is a shopping catalogue!
3:49 yep I can confirm Kenya wildlife Service be flying these bad bois.
I used to jump from the roof into the backyard with minimal runway. It hurt my ankles so I made a parachute.
Can’t wait to get my bush cat!
You missed two of the best options on the market right now. Zlin Savage Norden and the Zlin Shock Cub.
Awesome creativity
My favourate super STOL was Mike Patey's Wilga 2000 which he put a Pratt & Witney PT6
gas-turbo-prop which was very light and had 680hp at the prop this aircraft had and STOL
of 100ft take off and landing rollout, and a pilot controlled propeller pitch control.
he videoed it's upgrades, however DRACO its name was lost when Mike try to fly this superb
aircraft when trying to beat a storm, when Draco ground looped and was lost all on board were ok luckily but the plane was destroyed, he intends to build another DRACO could climb to 18.000ft, a great loss to aviation, he is currently building a super carbon cub with a flat 8 13 litre upgraded experimental, this man has the skills we wish him well. BTW
thats a useless info for consumer. Prototypes a nice, but when you want to buy one, you have to look at the market
The UA-cam algorithm suggested this video, probably because I've watched so many other aviation videos. And who do I hear? James. But I know him as Mr. RedWheel :-) Seriously....I have watched probably hundreds of RedWheel channel videos where James reads Reddit stories.
Funny to hear the STI is slow😂
The one with 2-5 horspowers is intresting, is it helium filled?
Almost at 50k! Keeep it up!
thought this was a video about extreme stol not some plane commercial!, not once have they mentioned the draco!.
BushCat's maximum gross weight is actually 1,320, so useful load is higher than video states.
Hol'up, are you the guy from WATOP? You mean to tell me, an aviation nerd, that the guy from the nature channel that made me actually like nature, now has an aviation channel? Now that's a find!
Price of STOL CH750? Where can I get these?
Your definitely beyond facts James 🤣
So you edited that statement, but you still couldn't spell "you're" correctly? Good job Craig.
Just change the wings and or engine makes anyone of these planes do whatever you want a STOL to do.
I live in Northern Nevada and we have a lot of STOL planes out here.
On the weekends very easy to catch a few flying in formation on sunny days out in the public land areas.
You're somewhere between doyle and gerlach aren't ya? I have land in Flanigan, about 5 miles from dead cow airstrip.. I agree, I love watching the planes.
Also add info of takeoff and landing distance.
Fly it like you STOL it!
With enough wind I could land in zero feet. Even land going backwards!
Is there a carbon Storch too?
Capito una sega!!!! Pero wery nice!!!!
What about the 9.5 feet take off roll?.. in the thumbnail......ya’ll tricked me. 60 feet was the best you showed, any headwind?
I landed a Cessna 172, once with less than 10 foot landing roll......headwinds were about 60mph
@@sammytheface8821 you forgot one thing... "Lived to tell about it" LOL.
actually sounds like a lot of fun to me.. I'd be out on the runway doing touch and go's .... about 50 touch downs and takeoffs in 100 feet lol
Is the Murphy Moose still a contender ?
Thought itd be cool to learn about different short take off lengths. Sadly he hardly addresses it...
That’s my green Superstol
My Uncle landed his disabled P51 putting it thru the Arch deTriumph in 1944 shearing off the wings.rolling unscathed up the cobbles. To a stop
that's a RTOL... Rough Take Off Landing... I give your uncle 100% Respect! Please pass on my appreciation for his service in the worst war to date.
Blurring out company logos on their own videos and claiming Zenith has 2-5hp? I'll be smashing that "don't recommend channel" button.
I thought this video was going to be showing short take offs. I didn't realize it was click bait.
Yeah, I came here for the people with skills
You sound like the voice actor of Jake in Adventure Time
Hey ,pissss 😂😂👍
Hi, I am from India, I love flying, your video is amazing. However I don't know how to operate An Airplane, so if I want to buy such Aircraft where will I get training and the Aircraft too.
You have to find the planes by looking online, or visit a vendor who sells them. As for training, There are many flight schools available. I am not sure about the status of schools in india, but in America, if you've got the money and the time, you can take flight school. If you've got the aptitude and the drive, you can become a pilot. Good Luck
I think I have heard this narrator on other youtube sites. He sounds a bit like Kermit the Frog but I love it. He is great!
The Storch can hover at idle with a 14mph headwind if i recall correctly
Nice video.. but not a single one has a 9.5' roll.... clickbait?
Price of Cutboncub?
Do STOL aircraft's consume more fuel then none STOL aircraft's?
Look up the stats of the Robertson Eagle. Take off in 100' and clear a 80' obstacle 100' later.
Not familiar with the Eagle, but Robertson had excellent STOL kits for many Cessnas and some other aircraft.
James couldn't correctly expand the acronym.
(It's Short Takeoff OR Landing - not And - that's why they acronym is STOL and not STAL, James.)
Just a suggestion. When you don't use a different plane in the B-Role than the one you are describing, it confuses us. Is that a different model? Does it have the same specs? etc. You're content is helpful. But this would make it better.
SOUTH AFRICA OR SOUTH AHH IS A GREAT PLACE
Funny how most of the footage is from runways (or runway-equivalent nautral flat surfaces).
Sure, some of the planes can take off or land on a time in the right conditions. This video fail at demonstrating it.
when the runway is already a perfect length, but its about 400ft wide
Who needs a chopper? You have to consider some Heliocopters are not really rated for vertical flight, so I guess they are SSTOL?
This narrator is everywhere with so many different names wtf
Stol is so yesterday. Distributed power aircraft don't require any landing length. And soon no pilot license either.
No Yee Haw 7?
I own an extreme STOL aircraft.
He’s a reproduction of a plane that crashed awhile ago, Draco. He’s powered by the same turbine. Just different color scheme.
You've seen a goose land, right? I've never understood why planes don't use that flaring technique. Instead, build a nice long runway.
They can land on the shortest runway there is. It also happens to be the widest. Because these guys can land sideways, 90 Degrees perpendicular on any regular runway and still have plenty of room to stop.
Not VTOL. But...KSP cannot compare!
He sounds like WATOP
Wow 2-5hp. So basically you have a person flapping their arms like wings right?
Then the Bushcat....
This single seater has an empty weight of 705lbs and a gross weight of 1235lbs.... Very next scene shows two seats in the cockpit lol.
No mention of Draco?
2-5 horsepower?
"takeoff" is one word.
o is for or
short takeoff or landing
How do you spel Taxiing or taxying haha both work had a go with my English teacher years back . They hate to be wrong.
Holy sh*t...I know THAT voice...guess I’ve got an other channel to subscribe to!
This is nothing at all. Years ago I was at an airshow and they came out with a Harrier Jet to show off it's amazing take off and landing abilities. It just went right up like a helicopter, rotated slowly 360 degrees then look off going almost strait up, flew around above the field for a few minutes then landed straight down no problem. The announcer was remarking about this amazing technology. That is until a 70 year old biplane taxied out onto the tarmac and did all the exact same maneuvers albeit at a slower speed. it took off strait up without the wheels rolling one degree then slowly rotated 360 degrees then flew around for a few mounts doing things like barrel rolls and loop de loops be fore it stopped at a dead hover ten feet off the ground and stayed there while the announcer explained all the technical things they had to do to make the plain able to do that then it just slowly came right down and landed within an inch or two of where it started from without rolling on it's wheels. The pilot said he didn't need no runway, he could land on the roof of your house, your swimming pool, almost any back yard, or a set of three cinderblocks and take off from same. And after that demonstration I believe it. That was around 2006 I believe.
at what point do you just get a helicopter
Hard to watch video - constant chopping between shots
These STOL contests are fine, They check how little a runway these planes can use to get airborn. But they do it with nothing on board, as little fuel as they can get away with. That's fine too. BUT they need to all have to load up the full gear, and add the weight of A second person. as part of the contest. Let's say 600 pounds. that's about what they will really be carrying in real life.
That would be more realistic. Then whoever gets the best of both landings, and take-offs wins. They won't be landing and taking off bear bones. in the outback.
Ok, you tell us speeds in mph and distances in feet. I wish someone invented a convenient units system which somehow connected speeds, distances, weights, areas and volumes 🤔 sounds fantastic, right? Oh wait, it sounded fantastic in 18th century 🤦♂️
Watching fr hongkong. Like subscribe salamat.
laughs in *Mike Patey*
Where was Draco?
Cub Crafts = how to take a simple low cost airplane "J3 Cub" and make it un-affordably.
Doesnt give take off distance for all models. -1
Why is the thumbnail edited? That’s lil Cub, it’s yellow, not red
Yall do know these are made for this right?
05:55 "2-5hp" Really ?? Anyone checking the script for this Robo voice ??
easiest way to get 0.0 feet landing: *NOSE DOWN FROM 100 FEET*
"Beyond Facts"... so, fiction?
STOAL
Why STOL and not STAL?
The narator know nothing about aviation. "A landing speed of 110 feet".
2-5hp Zenith. Yeah. This guy is reading a script written by someone completely clueless
STOL stands for short take off OR landing, not and.
I thought this video was going to be showing short take offs. I didn't realize it was just a commercial for various aircraft makers.
Yeah I wish it would have let us see some instead of just cutting the video.
In my YT suggestions feed I'm blocking the channel completely over this fact.
@@mjmeans7983 good idea
most painful v/o ive heard, they guy sounds like he has a very bad dose of constipation
I was going to say the same thing.
