The Athula Dassana International Buddhist Centre proudly organised this Sinhalese and Tamil New Year Day celebration for the 10th consecutive year. This is a national festival which has been celebrated in Sri Lanka for centuries.
We are very pleased to organise this all-day event bringing together the Sri Lankan community to celebrate a great day for our country.
The Cultural show you are about to enjoy is the final part of our celebrations. Athula Dassana International Buddhist Centre has with great effort put together a Sri Lankan cultural show in order to celebrate this event.
One of the main focuses of this all-day event was to educate the younger generation about their mother land, focusing on the along held traditions whilst also allowing children to experience and learn about the Sri Lankan culture.
It is important for this to happen as children who are born in the UK or have come to live in the UK do not always get a sense of Sri Lankan culture and traditions in their everyday lives rather than when at home, therefore by celebrating this day, it allows us to educate children and for them to experience the importance of Sri Lankan culture.
