Thanks for sharing. Very interesting video. As a shade tree mechanic a few thoughts come to mind.
    1. Cut it right next to a clamp where the cables might be restrained by the clamp.
    2. Use an angle grinder. I think a grinder would go right through those cables.
    3. Exhaust repair down the road is going to be a pain.
I prefer an electrical system that delivers a lethal shock to anyone tampering with the exhaust. Additionally; studies have proven time and time again that deceased criminals quit committing crimes.
    Great video.

@@loosecannon124 The rule in Texas (and some other states) is that setting a booby trap is permissible if and only if the facts are such that the property owner could have used same force and inflicted the same injury had he been present in person. Since "Mischief at Night" is a permissible reason to use deadly force in Texas, this would be easy for someone to prove as justified.

@@randymoy5190 Only 2% of states are Texas, and I bet there are some real nuances to that TX law if it is as you say. Nobody in their right mind, anywhere in the USA, sets a possibly lethal booby trap. You'll far too likely become a jailed felon, lose your right to vote, lose your guns, lose your job, get your butt sued off in a civil trial regardless of whether what you did was illegal, and you sure can't drive while you're behind bars, with or without the cat still on your vehicle.
Just because something is legal, doesn't mean you don't have to pay for the consequences of what you do. It is not illegal when your airplane crashes into a jail when a wing falls off, but you can be sure that every dead prisoner's family will win a lawsuit for big money against you. Likewise for injuring or killing an alleged thief with a booby trap, I would guess. Their family would ring the cash register.
I do think that super stiff penalties are needed for cat theft, and everything else where some moron making $100 on a crime causes thousands of dollars damage, plus lost days from work while dealing with it, loss of ability to get around, etc. No to mention the feeling of nothing being safe and secure, everything being up for grabs by criminals. Mental anguish is real, for crime victims.
I can understand why primitive or harsh societies have penalties like cutting off a thief's hand. And if they do it again, cutting off the other one. But that is done by the justice system, not by the person something is stolen from.

If they made a law being in possession of a stolen cat was 10 years and a felony, including any officer not arresting and any DA that does not prosecute gets 90 days in jail and $100,000 fine, should help. Big problem is thieves getting let off so fast they did not have a chance to rest from the previous night.

The scrap yards around here will not buy anything without your D.L. If anyone is selling more than one, they will refuse, but not before getting your D.L. first, then they call the Sheriffs Department.

Hello Izzy, 43yr ret/officer. Add me to the statistics, my 97 merc grand marquis parked on the street, we had fresh snow I observed a large area at drivers door ground was distributed. I caught it before I entered my car. I took several pics around my vehicle and into a patio area of foot prints. Here in Toledo it's unlawful for the scrap yard and recycling centers to accept them here in town, so the little devils load up one pickup truck and take them into Michigan and get their money! Sadly Michigan needs to get on board and clamp down on their scrap and recycling centers!!!!!
Thanks for sharing your info to slow down the little thiefs !! Be safe and careful!!! ☆

By the time I got up put on my pants and took my already loaded 9mm they were gone with my cat. I painted my new one red with high temp paint . I put 2 straps on 1\4" x 2" and used self taping screws in the frame so they have to cut them or remove the screws to get it out . I scribed my vin no. Before I painted and put duct over that area so when the paint dried I removed the tape so it's very visible to see it . I am still going to purchase the hole kit you mentioned . My home is like yours we have neighbors cars going by and in my dang drive by my bedroom they still got mine . God bless

Izzy, Ken Martin here from CA. I met you and you wife in Tampa, and gave you a shoulder patch from my dept (and you and MJ gave me two T’s).
Emissions controls start in CA and then go nation wide, mostly by the feds.
Myself and my brother (he is retired CHP and owns a dismantling yard) have dealt with this for decades.
Legislation needs to solve this. Recycling yards must adhered to random inspections and ID all peoples with CATS.
Since NJ is small it needs to go to other states.
I understand CA is difficult yet our state does not allow dismantle/wrecking yards to sell CATs, only new replacements.
I could go on and on about bands of thief’s that stole certain CATs, plus locations, etc, etc.
I hate Thieves. Robust legislation is needed. Have your local or state police lobbyist aware of the situation and look up CA legislation that has dealt with this bullish!t.

That's what I like about my trucks, both made before catalytic converters. I have a 1993 Detroit Diesel, didn't have cats until 1994. Also have a 2003 Cummins, which didn't have cats until 2004. O'Reilly Auto Parts, right down the street from me, had the cats stolen on their entire fleet of delivery trucks. My local U-Haul also got hit. One of the guys here has an old diesel truck, he uses it for towing. He had his entire exhaust system replaced... everything from the exhaust manifolds at the cylinder heads, all the way to the exhaust tips, all of it brand new. A month later, someone stole his catalytic converter. Problem was, his truck is like mine, it doesn't have any cats. What they took was his $25 flex pipe.

Theft is happening everywhere. I was at LazyDays in Tampa Florida and it was the victim of multiple thefts. In less than 24 hours they stole thousands of dollars in stuff from guests, a $3,500 pressure washer of the campground and so much more. When they reviewed the footage, the security guard just waved the thieves through the gates and didn't check that they were guests... I agree that all you can do is make your stuff less desirable than the person next to you. Luckily the day the theft happened was our last day and we were already packed up, all our storage compartments locked. IF it would have been 24 hours earlier, I would have had stuff out everywhere and my storage doors would have been open. I think I am going to start locking everything from now on.

It's not just catalytic converters being stolen!! Our entire trailer was stolen! We just found it! 1/1/2 years later. My husband is a retired Mountie and dealt with theft all the time. Here in Canada, not much gets done. The thief who stole our trailer was living in it in his dad's driveway. It was satisfying to find it and take it away from him. But, it's trashed and we were insured so got payed out and no longer legally 'own' the trailer. But, knowing this jerk will not get punished for what he did to us is very frustrating. It's like open season for thieves. Protecting your possessions from theft is the best proactive solution, but, punishing thieves and making them pay for the crime would sure help.

Thank you for the information! We had ours stolen in December at a storage facility. They are gated & have cameras, & someone present on the property during the day, but that didn’t stop the thieves. I’ve had a lot of health issues going on so what really let me down was I didn’t find out until July. The storage facility never called or emailed us. And the unit parked right next to us was hit, so there’s no reason they shouldn’t have checked ours. It only has about 25 storage spots, for what they charge a month I honestly think they should have checked everyone. The lady said she sent emails, but it’s odd because I get the automatic payment receipt from her every month, just not the 2 emails she supposedly sent regarding theft. Ran into the owner of the RV behind us & they also were not contacted. So now it’s time to order some protection & find a new storage facility as well. Every other place is more money too unfortunately 😕

We had our muffler and exhaust system stolen from right in our driveway. We have lights and cameras but did not catch them on camera. We are parked up against some bushes and think they came in from the front of the RV through the break in the bushes from the neighbor’s yard. The cut off the muffler and exhaust pipe and stole it all. Well the joke is on them as there was no catalytic converter on it because it is a 2000 diesel pusher, but we are stuck with getting the system replaced. We have been able to replace the muffler but are having issues finding the exhaust pipe for it. Winnebago says contact Freightliner and they say contact Winnebago. It is so frustrating trying to find the parts. My son who lives 10 miles from us had his catalytic converter stolen off his Ford Bronco also. They really need to crack down on the junkyards who are buying these stolen items. They need to put serial numbers on them to help track them.

I just had my CC stolen from my Class A motorhome parked at my home on Friday night 4/22/22. Discovered Saturday afternoon. Spent the rest of Saturday and all day Sunday doing research and came across the CatStrap, and was seriously considering it. Then today 4/25/22 I came across your video and it cemented my decision. Sold! The only problem is their website is showing a 30 day lead time -- they can't keep up with demand!! (I wonder why?) I want to get as soon as possible since I'm in the process of buying a new Class A, and I'm worried that the thief or thieves will realize there is a new unit parked where they already did their cut and run....!!!

Here in British Columbia they are stealing them in the daytime by attaching a tow rope onto the exhast and ripping the entire section out and driving down the street and throwing it in the back of a vehicle before anyone can get a plat or description. I’m very worried too about gas theft. Can’t find a locking gas cap that fits. But, then I hear about drilling the tanks?

Correct, gas thieves are drilling a hole to drain your gas tank, don't waste your money on secured gas cap, most new vehicles have a rollover valve and mesh screen that prevent siphoning.

If the thief rests the Sawzall on the top of the exhaust pipe he will still remove it. With all the clearance of an RV, the motion alarm would be the most benefit.

@@EndlessRVing Oh i did, It still wouldnt save your cat, The alarm might help deter them. But they dont need to cut the full length of the cat, and the adhesive only has soo much pull strength, they can still get it. My advice, take a strap like that, go to an RV junkyard and find an RV that has the same height as yours and clearance of the exhaust and test it, cut from the top down and watch how easily you can lift that thing up and out. A true way to stop thieves would be to weld a plate around that thing or just do what many people do. Rig the sensor to believe there is a cat so you dont need one.
